I'm on an owl kick lately (or should I say 'again' - it happens a lot!). After the last owl mask I made, I had to do a 'dark' version, with shimmering, silver stars and white speckles! I also have a soft spot in my heart for grays, and haven't made a gray mask in a while.
Hand-tooled and carved 7-oz. leather with attached leather feathers, painted with acrylics. Some of the 'star' spots are silver iridescent paint and really shimmer!

I've looked into doing renfaires, but unfortunately I don't quite have the right tent setup (most around here require tents to be 'period' and my EZ-up probably wouldn't work) and they also require you have insurance. I do indoor conventions and art shows, though! And I have sold masks at those :)
That's too bad that you can't do em at Faires. Still doing them at art shows is great stuff. I dunno if I'd get one cuz I dont know what would look good... Honestly I could show you some of my Ren Faire stuff and how I look to give you some ideas of what would look good on me if you wouldnt mind trying a commission in the future.
Yeah, matching with colors/costumes is definitely a good way to go if you're going to commission your own mask. A friend of mine makes masks and one year had two women come to her table wearing masks they bought from her last year, and had designed costumes to go WITH the masks! It was awesome :D So it can definitely go the other way, too (mask to go with costume).
