Without pain receptors, you don't feel pain. There's also the possibility that the water is hot enough to cook the food but not hot enough to cook the humans, there are meals that can be prepared without the need of Boiling hot water. When it's all said and done though, in the end its' a comic about characters that could never exist in real life anyway. Leave Real Life reasoning at the door and just enjoy the comic for what it is.
Steam can be produced if the air is cooler than the water. I don't think it needs to be boiling for that. I've taken gloves off and had steam rising from my hands and I know my hands were warm but certainly not boiling.
How about This for an explanation. They were Magically shrunk, so maybe the Magic is protecting them from being Boiled alive but unfortunately does not give protection against being stepped on and eaten.

Personally, I'd like to see the soup make them shrink more to the point they're very small and almost impossible to detect..then they have to go exploring over some of them through their fur...or something like that. I'd also prefer males somewhere, but I know Markie is only into giantess, so i'll let that be.
