I think in general we are placing too much reliance upon finnicky internet services, and we're just waiting for something truly catastrophic to motivate the public (and idiots in the government) to recognize that fact.
FA at least, is not a monster sized algorithm-idiot-god like Google/FB/Twitter, it can be reconstituted quickly and without fundamental overhauls.

It's also decentralized, so unlike Facebook/Google/etc. an outage doesn't cripple a quarter of the internet.
