I've had similar problems trying to play Sins of a Solar Empire, and before that, Freelancer.

For some reason, my computer *which works perfectly in all other aspects*, just refuses to connect to multiplayer games. And I found out that not only will it not connect...the games themselves are refusing to *attempt* the connection in the first place. They're not even reaching out to the internet like they're supposed to.

When I get a new computer, I will be ever so happy.

Yeah it's pretty terribad, I haven't been able to play with anyone yet.

I have browsed their forums, and they are working on this and other issues with in game content...though as the saying goes: "I'll believe it when I see it"

considering the huge ammount of bugs , some of them critical, its obviusly the owners wantd to get the game as fast as they could to the wild and not actually "when it was done".

so I'm not surprised.

I'm not going to be much help, I'm not much for computer games, but both the Xbox and PS3 I and my room mate has, we just can't get them to work with one another eather with there online services or just over the networks.

It's so great being a PC gamer, aint it? ;P

I got it working for me. However, I knew what to do to fix it because I did it for part of my job D:>.. so I wouldn't expect anybody to know.

I think the biggest problem is that they don't have dedicated servers to play on out there, like L4D or Team Fortress do.

My mate can't play multiplayer either. Gamespy has always sucked for that. Here's hoping they get some dedicated steam servers.

I'd say something snarky like "Buy it off of steam and do it the right way" but I dunno if you did get it there or not, seeign as Rainbow Six Vegas 2 can be bought off steam yet still uses Ubisofts crappy servers. Wish I could be of actual help to ya.

I don't suppose there's an option for direct IP hosting and connections? That almost always works for me, especially for games using Gamespy. I got the game for the 360 myself, haven't had a chance to connect to LIVE recently, though.

did you add an exception to your firewall, or turn it off? that sometimes may be the problem.

I had a bitch of a time with the whole port nonsense too, I don't even remember how I did it now. Really, you would think when a game is produced with it's main feature being online play, they would develop some kind of streamlined online system to run with the client or right through the game, not this ISP/router configuration bullshit that 5% of people actually understand.

I didn't have too much trouble with the ports... but I do have trouble with the whole concept of the multiplayer in general. With the loot rules, the level rules, and the.... "wonderful" Gamespy lobby, I have no idea how they expected people who don't know each other to play the game together... That said, does anyone want to join up? :) I lack a microphone (I don't really do much voip gaming) but I might get one soon. Send me a note or something. I'm in the 1-20 range right now, level-wise.
Oh, and as a personal rant, I don't think this would be a problem if it weren't for the evils of cross-platforming. I <3 Borderlands, but it could have been super-epic if it was made from the ground up for PC, THEN ported to xbox and ps3. I wouldn't expect awesome Fallout 3 style modding or anything because of this, which I think is a huge loss for a game this cool. And if it was run through, say, Steam on a HL2 server list style, I think finding people would be much less frustrating... And of course there's the whole interface which is clearly made for a controller, but my fingers are crossed for a patch or two to help with that.

When you buy Borderlands off Steam you still have to go through Gamespy for the online play. Steam is just the distribution source for this title. I've helped a dozen people get their port forwarding to work so far. Probably the most common mistake I see is people forwarding the ports to their router's IP (usually 192.168.0.1) instead of their computer's IP on the network.
I don't want to endorse this next method too much, but since you already paid for it then whatever. The pirated PC version doesn't require port forwarding since it circumvents Gamespy for online play. Maybe try that out.

I have not gotten the chance to play it yet, but does it have a direct connect or LAN type option for multi player?
You could always try using something like hamachi or something where it can fake a connection between you and the people you are playing with.

Did a quick search and see someone already listed off the TCP/UDP ports to port forward on your router. Gamespy is absolute shit, but it'd be pointless for me to repeat. Hope you get things working; always good to have more dragons shooting people up.

I keep getting ERROR messages whenever I try to play it online... I'm rocking with a Hunter that can't seem to have more time to shoot heads than running away and spawning Bloodwings =/ I need a partner so badly yet i can't manage to play it online T_T

i cant seam to make it work online ether...i can just join somone game...if somone would help me with this would be greatfull..yes firewall ports are opened

well, make sure all the right ports are open, UDP and TCP.


Also, check your router. you most likely have a modem and a router, but if the modem is also a router, then plug in to that one.

for example, i have a Dlink router, then my Telus (my ISP) modem/router combo. If i want to play games, i plug in to the router/modem combo. (and open the ports on the router/modem)


most people will have just a router and then a modem, just my ISP gave me the stupid router/modem combo, and there are other ISP's that do that.
