Maybe relevant artist advice?
So, its been quite a few times this has happened. I do my best to make the best art i can for my commissioners. That means that i cook up the best idea i can and then proceed to give it justice with the best execution i can muster. One problem though - im not a machine, im a lazy human being. The idea that i come up with ends up being pretty damn difficult to pull off with lots of effort required and doesnt feel that rewarding to me. So, the advice is, if you find yourself procrastinating on your commissions, or just general drawings, there is a big chance that you have set a goal that is way more than you should have gone for. I hate backgrounds, especially when i need to detail them, yet, two commissions im working on have backgrounds with high detail required in them... and guess what, im procrastinating on them. I will be thinking of simpler, more efficient ideas from this point on i think. You might want to try for that too...
Also, as a result of this - i keep making and posting other, lower effort art in the mean time, which probably doesnt feel the best for the commissioners. Sorry about that...

A simple way to do backgrounds is just do mockups in sketchup using free to use assets, load it in, and then just draw over it.

Right, i keep forgetting that... It is tricky to find good assets though... Btw, do you have any recommendations how to find good assets?

Sketchup has a bunch of free to use assets in the sketchup warehouse. Can usually import them directly into your project easily.

I use a lot from https://opengameart.org/ in my projects, really helps filling the void of backgrounds.
