Some questions about SubscribeStar & similar platforms
a year ago
Hey there, peops! Hope y'all doing well ♥
Recently I got a lil displeased with Patreon over a few points and wondered if SubscribeStar or anything similar could solve these issues.
Here's what happens:
[1] - I finished an animation recently, but because it took well over a month of me only working on this one, I decided to give everyone a free month. However, turns out no one can join while billing is paused for some reason, but I also don't wanna undo the pause of course. So now peops gotta wait til December 28th to join, which makes me hesitate to yeet out content to public that advertises my page without being able to join it. It feels like everyone loses with this weird set up.
[2] - The 8% fees plus fees to withdraw plus the ridiculous conversion fees feel like a mini-scam to me. I feel very discomforted about this policy, even if the amounts are not astronomical.
[3] - I wanna make at least one monthly sketch raffle for everyone subscribed, but Patreon explicitly warned me not to do that, neither on Patreon nor a platform connected to it (=Discord)
Here's what I wanna know, but couldn't figure out:
[1] - When you use the vacation mode setting on SubscribeStar it pretty much does what Patreon does. However, is there a way or a different platform to have the ability to let peops join while the page is on pause? Maybe am dumb, but the idea that someone joins and gets billed, then gets subbed at least for the paused period + the month after it doesn't seem alien to me.
[2] - I know the fees on SubscribeStar are lower on paper, but are there any fees am not aware of that add up to the same silly amounts or is it as transparent as it advertises?
[3] - Can I host raffles on SubscribeStar?
[[4] - Side question: How does SubscribeStar feel about rather spicy vore content? :V]
Thank you for your help! ♥

SubscribeStar does not have an explicit pause mode. You have to email customer service to pause.
SubscribeStar does not bundle patron bills.
On patreon, if someone is subbed to multiple artists, there is one paypal ding and the paypal fee is split among all artists. On subscribe star each subscription is a separate pull so payment processor fees can't be split up. Depending on your tiers and your patrons proclivity to sub to other people this can amount to a substantial percentage. (the see is like 35c+4% or so. So it's much higher on say 1 dollar subs)
Also subscribe star does not support PayPal.
We use both, but just want you to be aware of the limitations.
I guess there are more drawbacks than I thought, so it's good that I asked and am glad about your reply~
I find it annoying as a patron but I guess we're stuck with it.
I would say Patreon is okay with willing vore, but during their review of my page they said several of my willing and implied vore stuff had to go. So I don’t truly know their stance on it.
Their rules around vore are more relaxed. Patreon kicked me out for my vore content, while subscribestar has said nothing. I feel like there used to be the option to post publicly like Patreon, but I haven’t found that option recently.
Their fees are lower than Patreon, but not as low as kofi. Kofi, however, is extremely strict on content.
The payouts are pretty quick. Usually next day or two.
Subscribestar does allow for one time tips, but they do take a fee of sorts from that. So kofi is still the better tip jar.
I have never tried pausing my page, however they do offer some sort of grace period or trial period.
No raffles. I do think that’s against the rules.
My one comment is they do have a limit on file sizes. I do not know the file limit on animations, but on images it’s 12 MB.
Subscribestar isn’t as feature rich or as popular as Patreon, but I have had no issues with posting vore.
The size limitation is something I didn't think about. I already got troubles on Patreon when I wanna share my work files or timelapse videos of longer projects, like recently. I think a smart idea would be to scale the file size by how much you pay a month in fees, but that's just spontaneous brain storming haha.
Still kinda bugged about the raffle thing. I think it would be really cool and attractive~
I do see why whey don’t do raffles. I thought about it too, but it falls under gambling.
