Who cares if it cost half a billion dollars?

I know you've all seen plenty of journals on James Cameron's sci-fi epic Avatar, and are probably sick of hearing about it but I'd just like to say a few things...
Yes, he did spend an unnecessarily large amount of money on it. Yes, it goes for three fucking hours (although you don't really notice). Yes, the storyline is somewhat recycled and predictable. Yes, the script isn't fantastic, but that's not the point. Avatar is a remarkable piece of storytelling made with perfection, and I strongly believe it is the future of film-making. It is a unique visual experience from beginning to end more than anything else, and I think people tend to overlook that. In my opinion the script isn't complete scrap, it's just simple, which is what it's suppose to be. Something plain but still solid for everyone to enjoy and marvel at, and if you ask me, I believe it -was- worth the half-or-so billion dollars.
If you don't like it, that's fine. You can't make everyone happy, but I think the majority will still find it quite pleasing. I urge you also to see it in 3D, because otherwise you haven't experienced the full thing (make sure you go to the bathroom before you go in too).

Thanks to everyone for the commissions!
i enjoyed EVERYTHING about it...
except the name of the precious mineral which was unnecessarily lazy.
what REALLY impressed me though, was the world that they created. it was another planet, and acually FELT like another planet, not just "Oh hey its earth, a few hundred lightyears away". It was an acual ALIEN world.
Word up for 3D though, I'm so down with that.
I'm wondering if maybe this is why so many people are saying "ew 3D is a gimmick, why would you want 3D movies on a 3D TV". They associate 3D with shit reaching out of the screen at you, which is the exact opposite about what it's about. If anything, it's about stuff receding back from the screen. In any case I'm totally into it, I <3 my games in 3D.
I'd like to see it again in 2D. Maybe 2D IMAX. >_> Just to compare.
I doubt it would be that costly though! |3
Other awesome moment, the sheer imagination of it! A whole new world, created from scratch, different than anything we've seen. The Na'vi themselves are a mastepiece!
