Monster Hunter Tri NA + EU Servers Separate

It hadn't occurred to me until now, but I couldn't find any definitive answers as to whether NA and EU players will be able to connect to each other in Monster Hunter Tri. I ended up posting in the Ask Capcom forum at Capcom Unity and was given the following answer by one of the mods:
"NA and Europe will have different servers.
The game disc will decide what you connect to (via region on disc and code)
*ahem*
I can't say go mod your Wii to play that region, ....
But if you did pick up PAL version of MH Tri, you'd be able to play with them and vice-versa but Wii is region locked, and no one here can help ya with that. =("
So, uh, fuck. I know there are a few European guys I was planning on playing with, so in case this is gonna make you change your mind on picking up the game, just letting you know now. :X

Ah... That's really a pity. I wanted to play with people from everywhere.
I know one of my Swedish friends is looking into getting a region-free Wii and importing the NA version, though I don't know if that's exactly feasible for you. On top of that, I'm not sure if you'd get crazy lag doing that or not either. :S
