Ten things I love/hate about this fandom.

General
I love:
Spoiling friends. I love spreading the wealth when I can, and if you've known me for a good amount of time you probably know this firsthand. It's nice being able to dish out goodies that might not be readily available to the general public, and it does my heart good when I find a good home for some cool stuff...and that it's appreciated on the other end.
Being drawn. Terrible to admit, but it's absolutely true...but maybe not in the way you might think. To me, when someone draws my character it means that someone took precious time out of their day to do something for me. That's enormously flattering, and that reaction is the same no matter how skilled you are.
Tormenting friends. Everyone in this fandom has their own specific "button" to push, and I love finding creative ways to push them. It's fun trying to read clues into their particular tastes and pushing RPs in the direction that would give them a specific thrill.
Suiting. I have Oz to thank for this one. Never put one on until Oz floated into my life, and he's the guy that's given me the ability to do it on a regular basis as the character I created. I can't thank him enough for that, cuz it's fun as hell...even if I'm not very good at it.
The gossip. I dunno, it's horrible to admit. But hey, it's hard not to get caught up in hearing what other people in the fandom have been up to, both good and bad. There are so many specifically weird and wacky things that happen within this fandom, so it's hard not to get absorbed in the gossip.
I hate:
Egos. I appreciate the talented and creative people in this fandom. What I don't appreciate is when the popularity consumes them to the point of being cliche'd celebrity-like entities that always surround themselves with ass-kissing entourages. I don't care if you're an artist, writer, or someone who just stands up in front of a room full of people and shouts "fuck" ten times a minute to make them laugh -- get off your damn pedestal and come down to reality. You probably wouldn't be that way without the fandom.
Lack of social tact. Many people in the fandom have zero social skills when thrust in the real world -- they've been so engrossed in electronic interaction that they have no idea what's the right and wrong way to converse in real life. Disconnect from WoW and Xbox Live every so often and get outside, make friends, go to a bar and have a drink, chat with random people. Listen when someone's talking -- not every conversation has to be about you.
The misuse of Fur Affinity. I believe the whole point of Fur Affinity is to submit works that the submitter is directly responsible for...not to give members a free site to host their commissions and gifts. You got a picture drawn of your character...great! Tell the artist to upload it to their account (or have them set up an account and upload it) so that they can receive the proper acclaim. Too many people have been uploading commissions/gifts without the proper credit, which leads other members to believe that the commissionee/giftee was the one responsible. Bad. I've been suckered too many times.
Assholes. This doesn't really apply to the fandom specifically...but it still applies. Because the internet is this "anonymous" medium, and because members hide behind a different persona, some take advantage of this by being absolute cocks. Why? Because they can get away with it. Funny thing is, the people who are dicks on the internet tend to not be in person. Funny how that works. Here's a Duncan constant: if you're an asshole on the internet, I immediately don't like you.
Small talk. If you want to chat with me online, please please please have something to say other than "What's up?" Grab my attention with something that shows you've got something on your mind. I'm not this elitist jerk, but if you're going to start conversations with two word IMs, that's pretty much what you're going to get in return.

FA+

That doesn't mean pestering is the ONLY thing you should be doing...
Darn'd roo.
Yeah... I've ruined a few online friendships. I tend to be too pressuring when in real life, I'm not...
And Sure I'd like to chat with you! Duncan Roo is one of the household names of the Furry world. LOL
Ok now I sound like Im moaning... Im not ^.^
In fact, I was thinking of posting a similar comment. But... the cat (or lion in this case) got my tongue...
Anywho, Glad to have opened up a journal thats -not- filled with pointlessness or pleas for monetary assistance or other things not exactly worth spending my ever dwindling free time reading/viewing/something.
*reverts to non-verbal lurker mode and quietly continues his +fav +watch spree*
And I REALLY share the "Lack of social tact" fact, wich is worse when you are not english.
About the Ego... I think that's a poison in FA.
Glad to see you are a (rather :p) sane Roo!
I now have a goal.
I normally ask what up, thinking people that are busy will tell me, well I doing this right now.
I am a bit shy and don't want to interrupt if you are.
What up for is is kind of like dipping a toe in the water of a conversation.
But then I tend not to hang around on line enough to get a conversation in.
I glad you feel that way about art, your fun to draw, mostly cause I can see that you don't tend to get upset and seem to enjoy it. I know I enjoy drawing you when I first met you on furrymuck years ago. I not had much desire lately to draw as Real life took a front burner.
You raise good arguments all around though which is perfect motivation for me to try and keep in touch more often.
what can i say, there are some people around like that...
