Furry Roller Skating; Tyngsborough, MA; February 19, 2011

Amazing things can happen every time I don’t act according to a plan! The results aren’t always good, but this time, they were great! Sorry that I don’t remember the names of everyone who attended, but you were all friendly and fun! ^.^
For me, it all started while I was sitting at my desk, logged on to Second Life. In order to make virtual money (called lindens), I have a job virtually exotic dancing, at a virtual club. The club is Called Bare Fur Nude Beach <--Shameless Plug. I’m friends with one of the owners, Valen Greymoon. And, in fact, I’m the one that got her to started on Second Life. You see, we met on Furry 4 Life and . . . GET ON WITH IT!!
. . Oh! Uh, yes! Where was I? Ahem!
So, there I was loosing money because I was tipping the staff members. None of the guests were really tipping us. The event was more than halfway over when the DJ announced that he’d be heading to a roller skating furmeet in Massachusetts, as soon as the event was over. I immediately started posting: “Massachusetts furmeet? Where? IM me!”
Through IM’s I was able to find out that it was set up within a New Hampshire group and that they were meeting at Roller Kingdom/Skate 3, in Tyngsborough, MA. Long story short (as if I were capable of that!), he agreed to drive down to Somerville, which borders Boston (at Charlestown), and we’d ride back up to Tyngsborough together.
We arrived at Roller Kingdom just before 10:30. The adult skate was about to begin. Time for the gathering. No one showed up. After sitting in the parking lot for about fifteen minutes or so, we found out that there and been a mistake in the announcement. The furry skate would be held on Sunday night, not Saturday.
There had to be some alternative to driving straight back to Boston. Wolf (He uses the German pronunciation: Volf) was still on the phone with the event’s coordinator when he started the care and began navigation his way out of the parking lot. I struggled to get my purse up off the floor and fist out my address book. Just as I started poking the name and number of MIscellaneous Cheetah, Wolf got off the phone. I told him about my friend Misc. and that his house was only a few exits further north, on Rt. 3. We made the call while getting gas.
To our good fortune, Misc. was available and willing to host. I didn’t have to be driven all the way home, Wolf made a new friend, and Miscellaneous got another opportunity to go fursuiting. ^.^
After spending the rest of the night and most of the following day shooting the bull and watching movies, in a house occupied by three large, over-rambunctious show dogs, it was time for the actual furmeet. It was $7.00 to get in and $3 to rent skates. I didn’t know if I’d be skating or not. I payed the full $10 and took my ticket for the skate rental, just in case.
I was relived to find that I could wear skates, instead of blades. I left out group’s spot, directly under one of the speakers; got my fox ears and tail on; and went to give skating a try. I stepped off of the carpet and onto the rink. I wasn’t making any progress, so I tried to do what I saw others doing, I lifted my right skate to push off, and my left skate lurched forward. When I found there was no use in fighting to keep my balance, I let myself fall on my tail. Everyone around me was supportive and picked me up. The next time I stepped onto the rink, a stranger gave me some pointers and I practiced going up and down the middle of the rink (which they sectioned off for practicing).
When I wasn’t practicing to skate, I was hanging out with my fellow furries. There was an area for arcade games. That was a great area for goofing off, and I took lots of photographs and videos (let’s hope they will be worth posting). Finally, as the DJ said about Roller Kingdom: “Where else can you see two werewolves playing air hockey?” ^.^
1) This is New England. We have the opportunity to fursuit bowl in a way that is unique to us: Candlepin Bowling! ^.^
2) Furries v.s. Trekies
I'm all for the former. A candlepin ball sounds easier to handle than a ten pin ball, if one is wearing a fursuit. Also, Those tenpin balls are too unwieldy for me and the less gutter balls, the better. ^.^
As for the latter, I was thinking that we might be able to do New Hampshire vs Massachusetts vs Connecticut vs Rhode Island vs Maine vs Vermont; assuming each state gains enough bowlers to compete.
Just my take on things. ^.^
