Inconveniently evil.
sophiegiraffe had a great idea! She and I are going to go camping when her college classes let out this summer. We're wanting a more hardcore camping. No cabins or anything like that. We want to be out in the wilderness for three or four days with only our food, water, backpacks and a tent. I was thinking Brown County, but I'm open for anything.
Anyone know of a SAFE location for this kind of camping? We want to commune with nature and have a nice spiritual experience with nature and all that good stuff. :) We want to be amidst the wildlife and such. We want hiking and such.
Thanks!

I'll also check out Jackson-Washington, too. :) Turkey Run isn't too expensive, though, so we'll see. :D
We stayed in Goreville at Ferne Cliffe. It's great to camp at because their sites are on raised gravel beds which reduces the amount of water pooling at your tent. And yet its still really rustic. Some of the sites are a good 20ft from the parking lot, with lots of seclusion, you'll feel like your enveloped by forest. The are showers up by the RV's, about a half mile uphill from the camp grounds (you'll never see them from your campsite). The showers are handy in case you run into poison ivy, some dish soap and water will get all that oil off your.

You'll see what our campsite looked like :) The many times we've been there, there's never been more than 1 person camping around us. The general vibe of the place is to come to your tent to chill out and eat after a day of hiking, which is GOREGOUS at Ferne Cliffe. Go see the water fall and the ferns that are growing right out of the tall cliffs. Additionally major hiking spots are only a 20 minute drive from Ferne Cliffe like Garden of the Gods and Snake Road
This RV stuff still throws me for a loop, though. Can't take an RV on a four foot wide cliffside dirt path. xD Oh midwest, I love you.
ANYWAY, GO ILLINOIS. I liked it a lot better and it was more authentic. xD
The people of this town are INCREDIBLE!! seriously friendly and helpful and the town is CHEEEP as dirt to go into town to eat and get additional camping supplies. We got a full meal with dessert for $7 O.o which is how much camping costs per day. Good grounds, showers and water available, flush toilets at the showers or pit toilets near the tents, and the most adorable small town ever for only $7 a day. Thar is just unheard of within a 4 hour drive anywhere from Chicago.
