To Paws! Boston! To Paws!
Enough of us would love to see a furcon in Boston, but, as far as I know, no one is doing anything about it. It can be done, but it's not going to happen if we all continue to sit around waiting for someone else to do it.
No one can do it alone. It will take several of us, but it will only take a few, to start with.
It will take time. It will take a year or more, to organize the first one. That is all the more reason to get started as soon as possible.
So far, I haven't come up with a more suitable name than Minute Furs (as a take on Minute Men). What else makes Boston stand out from all other cities? Philadelphia may be the birthplace of freedom, but it was conceived here!
Offhand, I think that Spring would be the best time for us to host a convention. Anthrocon has the Summer, FurFright has the Fall. Winter might also work, but there may be concern for people traveling long distances through snow.
What comes to mind when I think about what we'd need to have:
Outside help. We'll need to talk to organizers of other conventions, to learn the do's and don'ts.
Organizers/Staff
A venue
Security
Presenters for workshops and other events
DJ's (Hopefully all of these people will be volunteers. Perhaps even you! ^.^)
Equipment
Food and Drink/hospitality
etc.
Thanks for reading,
Jessica

Though perhaps that would be overdoing it.
I like KashaCalilie's idea, honestly My mind was, like, "hmmm.... beans?.... Mushrooms?.... None of these things are very furry...." after that, just a strew of "walking city" puns ^_^; My mind is obviously still asleep XD
Aren't we also known as the Hub of the Universe, or just the Hub? Not sure if that can be reworked into something furry but it's a good name for something centralized like a furcon is. KashaGalilie's idea is great, though. =)
There are certainly a variety of hotels in and around Boston, as well as the Hynes and the Bayside for convention centers if it gets wildly epic. But I'm not sure where we'd be able to afford to start out. I'd volunteer my house if I lived there the majority of the year XD
I have the feeling that within the fandom we will find plenty of volunteers!
The only other con I really know of in the city like ours is Anime Boston. Might it be worthwhile contacting the organizers and asking them how they got it going? Their website indicates that they founded a nonprofit organization for the purpose of putting on the con, and they planned for 18 months.
This is serious business. I like it!
I think this is a goosd Idea
