What Nai Has To Get Out Of Her Thoughts..
Okay so today was the day of our district-wide art show. You know.. the one i originally painted that corgi for.
And it was alot of fun! i had to work the concession and help people around and stuff, My pieces didnt win anything.. but regardless i still got to display my paintings and animations and people seemed to enjoy them! as well as the other artwork, boy howdy. there sure were some interesting pieces put out on display. these 4th graders made like paper mache food and it looked so.. real. like you could pick it up and eat it. vcxvfg it was really awesome, and i saw more digital art too so im not the only one doing it anymore! it was great to see all of the different styles and the senior portfolios were just mind-blowing. i absolutely loved it.
However, there was one thing about one of the winners that kinda set me back a little.
For the advanced art section, the grand champion winner's work was.... to be honest a bit disturbing for me. It was an acrylic painting on canvas of JFK getting shot in Dallas, but his head was a happy yellow smiley face exploding with confetti, while jackie had this look of horror and there was an alien in the background in a spacecraft.
Now, my question to you all is... do you think this should have been allowed to be displayed in the show?
I wish i coulda snapped a photo of it, but i forgot too. The painting itself was rich in vibrant colors, and was a frontal view as if you were inside the car. There wasnt really any detailed shading, so i have no idea why it won grand champion ( there were tons of others that were better imo ) But what gets me is.. why was it even allowed into the art show? Almost everyone i noticed that saw it stared with disturbed looks. And i think it was entirely inappropriate and somewhat.. disrespectful? and it was apparently an overruled decision that it was ok. But personally, i dont think so. I was offended by it. Its a family friendly event, and all rough subject matter is usually cut out ( for example.. last year i could submit any gory pictures i had done that year due to the family friendly environment, which is understandable. ) So.. i dont understand how they could have thought this was okay. Like.. i dont think it should matter how good the artwork is, it can be as detailed as ever but if its honestly that disturbing i dont think it should have been allowed to be put on display, especially with that ribbon.
What do you guys think?

I personally wouldn't have included it in the art show because of the controversial subject matter. :[
Art should NEVER be censored. Period. Just like the internet shouldn't be censored by the government with bills like sopa/pipa. This isn't communist china or north korea.

There is art out there that I find offensive, don't get me wrong.
However, I feel that you can't not display something because some people find it offensive.
There is art in museums that children are subjected to that can be considered violent and offensive.
Sorry you found the painting offensive, it does seem rather bizarre that something like that would win.
