Hey everyone, Hey Digimon
Hey there, been a long long long time since I did a journal, been super busy with school and work and…such…lol, first off I want to send a shout out to a really good friend of my, Dr.deadman, who’s been a big help in my character designs and just being a great friend with me, thanks man. Secondly, you may notice that the pictures pertaining a gold and black dragoness and related pictures have been moved to scraps for personal reasons. I ask that you don’t ask why. If things change they may be moved back but I doubt it. Another thing is that I am moving all art work that I colored that isn’t a request or I just colored to scraps.
Anyways without further ado, I like to actually talk about a subject. Digimon season 1-7 (yes I’m saying there are seven and I’ll explain why later). I am a Pokémon fan myself but that doesn’t mean I don’t like the digimon series. Here I want to explain my thoughts about each season that I watched. So…let’s get started.
Season 1
Well, I haven’t watched this in a long time so I’m sure I can’t complain much. However this is the season that started it all. The digiquest, partners, and digidestends. The digital world is crazy and very unpredictable which made it fun and entertaining. And watching the digimon evolve made you wonder what they would turn in to next. A good start to a good childhood memory.
Season 2
I originally thought this season was good…when I saw it as a kid. But now I see it was just a failed copy of the first one. Veemon and the other digimon were cute but really the idea and plot was sort of repetitive as well as the English put in to it. Not to mention when they have long scene pauses of Davis or someone going HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY. The producers were probably thinking “We’ll make it 20 minutes long damnit if we have too!” And the villains were terrible I believe.
Season 3
I LOVE season 3. The best of the best as I would say. If anyone watches digimon and I said “guilmon, renamon, ect.” I guarantee you that most know who they are. Hell many furason and art are based around renamon. But it wasn’t the digimon alone that made this series great. The plot had a total of 3 forces attacking the tamers, Human, Sovran (if that’s spelled right) and D reaper. And the emotional ties and plot they made between tamer and digimon was amazingly strong and good…made me sad when they were separated in the end. The only real problem I had with this is that when they entered the digital realm, things got a little complicated, but still turned out alright.
Season 4
This…this shouldn’t have existed damnit! They took the human bonding of season 3 and made humans in to digimons…destroying the bond there was between human and digimon partners. Why? Why why why why why! They got rid of a special bond that makes the entire plot deeper. Not only that, but nearing the end, all the other team mates were fucking useless, except to give up their power to the two main guys for the second half of the season…wtf…just kick them out of the digital world then if there that useless! Not to mention they pretty much lost battle after battle…ugh…moving along.
Season 5
This one was better but It was better than 4. I didn’t see much of it but it seems the creators got wise and gave back the digimon human tag team ability. The only thing I didn’t like that I saw from what I seen was the human punching 50ft tall monsters and knocking them over and such…huh…
Season 6
This one isn’t…and probably won’t be…an English version, but still fun to watch. Aka Xros wars, this brought memories back to the original 3 seasons. It was very fun to watch and can’t really complain much about it. The 1 thing that bugged me though…more than anything else…was that shoutmon wanted to be king, yet he was soooooo overshadowed by his tamer. I felt that there could have easily been some powerful plot between him and the tamer where he got jealous of that…instead shoutmon continued to fight on to be king, no matter how much credit his tamer took.
Season 7
I call this season 7 even though it’s called xros wars 2. I did not like this one much. Better the 4 but the characters in this stinked. The rivals have already been done before…what with the gloomy personality and such, and the main character was a selfish superstar wannabe that was just very arrogant. Plus having shoutmon as a fight back in the picture is like having…veemon team up with the tamers in season three…wouldn’t make much sense and kind of took the specialty away from that particular digimon. To me this season just didn’t…feel right…oh well…
Well…that’s it for now. Hopefully there will be an 8th one that’s a lot like 3 in some way but after seeing the end of Season 7, I doubt it. Tell me what you guys think and I be glad to talk about it ^^

Season 1 was good. They did a lot of things right, and dealt with some emotional stuff at times, including death (in the form of digimon deletion at least). The heroes made numerous mistakes before really earning the title of "digidestined", which made it entertaining to watch their progression.
Season 2 did a lot wrong, especially the villains. It just wasn't very good at all, though it had it's moments.
Season 3 was, like you said, the best. The tighter focus (three tamers, three digimon) made for deeper connections with the characters, and the supporting cast (virtually everybody else really; there was hardly a person introduced who didn't add something meaningful to the story), played their part to make a great overall story. Oh, and I belive the word you're looking for is "sovereign". The story used the story structure "raising the stakes" beautifully as well. I'm personally a big fan of the bio-merge.
Season 4...ho boy did they make mistakes there. Completely removing the partner relationship was a huge mistake. Story wise I still found it better than season 2, but the lack of a human/digimon partner relationship just removed a key spark of Digimon. It just wasn't the same anymore.
Season 5 turned things around, and for me competes with season 1 for the #2 favorite spot. Sure, Marcus punching bigger digimon got a little repetetive, but I think they were trying to illustrate that force of will was a tangible force when it came to digimon. That and the true story of the series took far too long to develop, though once it caught, it was good. The digimon orphan (can't remember his name), also was annoying and didn't make much sense. If all the digimon around him are speaking perfect english, why is his grammer so bloody attrocious? It doesn't make any sense! He should be speaking with the same fluency as all the other digimon. However, I'm willing to overlook that rather wide plot hole for all the things they did right once again.
However, the "game becoming too real" I think is a niche filled at least partially by .Hack, so I'm not sure they'll ever go that route.
There were a lot of trading card animes and capsule monster animes that came to the U.S. shortly after Pokemon, but Digimon was the only one that could have ever boasted being a potential rival to Pokemon. Maybe it was because it was intriguing; it centered around kids that were completely new to the Digital World and learning about it along with the audience. Maybe it was because the digimon themselves were thinking, speaking creatures instead of just cute pet-like partners. Or maybe it was because the stakes were so much higher; the kids were exploring and learning about their surroundings, and when they fought, they fought for their very lives.
It was like the mature alternative to Pokemon, if you will; something more substantial for the older generation.
Then Season 2 came and they introduced a whole new set of rules, and then for Season 3, they scrapped it completely.
Pokemon ultimately triumphed over Digimon because it maintained a sense of continuity; every game and every season of the anime has taken place in one of two world settings (the default world, or the Mystery Dungeon world). If you've seen at least one season of the anime or played one edition of the game, you're all set; the rest of the titles won't throw any massive curve balls at you that will force you to relearn how to play the game again.
Digimon, on the other hand, reinvented itself completely for every single game and every single season of the anime. It made any game or any season difficult to commit to because, really, by Season 5 we knew none of it was going to matter in a couple of months anyway.
Imagine my surprise, for example, when after seeing DNA digivolving introduced in Season 2 as an alternative route to the Ultimate level, I pop Digimon World 2 into my Playstation, DNA digivolve two of my digimon and get back one rookie-level mon.
Stuff like that, I'm convinced, is what prevented Digimon from having a long-term fandom; every time they started over from scratch, they alienated the fans further.
And I fully agree that Season 4 is when it completely went to shit. It's only thanks to FurAffinity and all the Gaomon fan art that I was even made aware there was a fifth season.
