GTA IV - post 87

I don't own a 360 nor do I own a PS3 so I'm not playing this game.
Yet, I do want to.
Now I should stand out from the crowd and say that I'm not a GTA fan. The only one I've ever played was Vice City and I picked it up at the local EB for nine bucks. I figured, "why not... can complain for nine bucks and it's one of the PS2 highest rated games. I should try and find out why." I should also say that I've only owned a PS2 for just over a year.
I brought it home and started it up to try it out and found that I couldn't stop playing it. I found the game to be lots of fun. Fun in the way that I could really play the game any way i wanted to. I could do the missions or not and just piss around the city searching and messing around. Such freedom was wonderful. But as the game progressed I found that it started to get a little tedious. Save up money to buy a business... do the missions... save up money to buy a business... etc... etc... and if you didn't have enough money you had to pis around the city and deliver pizza, drive taxi (which isn't even close to being as fun as Crazy Taxi) and checking up on the business you do own to save up what you need.

I asked around with my friends that played GTA games and none of them said they had actually completed any of them because they where too damn long. Well, I set out to finish the game after that... and they where right. I swore I'd never play another GTA after that. It was fun in the beginning but man... if it didn't drag out in the end.
So now GTA IV is out and I find that I would love to get my hands on it. Even though I'm pretty sure that the game play is the same and I would have the same feelings at the end of it all... I want to play it. I looks like such a well crafted, thought out game. And that's what I love. A game where the developer didn't push it out the door. Things where well thought out and designed well. That's my love in game form.
When will I pick it up? Well, I'm scared to buy a 360 due to the red ring of death and the PS3 is just too expensive for me so it'll probably be a while. Until then I just sit, wait and admire the craftsmanship of GTA IV
also... last chance at the two auctions I have running. The both end around 11 PM I think.

Especially since you seem to be blind considering you think GTA4 only has SLIGHTLY improved graphics.
I still maintain your're blind, missing the lighting effects, higher res textures, higher polygon character modelling, bump mapping and more...
And frankly, saying the character models of Half Life 2 are better than GTA4 is a ridiculous statement.
It has me favourite story out of the three. GTA3 started the revolution and SA had the best gameplay, IMO.
Vice City had an awesome feel to it right until you got to the point you quit at. When it came to buying the businesses and doing the missions, none of it really felt productive anymore. The conclusion to the game was epic, and doing vigilante missions in an apache is never dull...but it did slow down a lot.
It might be worth buying San Andreas. It's cheap now and worth a play. If you still finding yourself hating the game (I suggest waiting until you at least get into the countryside before judging it, the start is a little slow and some people dispise the Gansta thing and hated the whole game because of it, even though it takes up only 15% of the content), you won't have lost much money (less than buying a 360 anyway) and you'll have your proof as to whether you like the series or not.
If you find yourself enjoying SA from start to finish (There are some truely epic missions, a huge sense of scale to the world and a real feeling of achievement as you progress through the story) then you might still enjoy GTA4.
As a final word though, I'd say this...do not buy a 360 or a PS3 if the only game you think you're going to buy is GTA4.
The 360 version is the one to get though, since the 360 version will have exclusive downloadable content later this year. Not much is known about it, but it's rumoured to be a new island, but again it's all rumour. We DO know it'll have more missions, and possibly a continuation of the story (the actual story is self contained, it doesn't end on a cliff hanger that forces you to buy content to get the complete story, if that's what you're worried about).
The 360 hardware problems are grossly over exagerated, seriously. Even so, as with any expensive piece of electronic equipment, I recommend buying Microsoft's 2 year extended warrenty. It adds onto the starting 1 year warrenty which will mean you'd be covered against all faults until 2011 plus the warrenty costs less than the cost of a repair job.
That aside, this is by far the best GTA to date.
but i mean if you didn't like vice city, it would be a good idea to play it on a friends 360/ps3 first. i mean, it really is like the other games with a better combat system, and a nice chunk of the flaws fixed.
as for the 360 rrod thing, three of my friends had to send theirs in. mine works fine due to the fact that i only have around 150 hours played on it (owned it since july 2006...logged in around 100 hours from beating mass effect 6 times), i keep it in an open area, and i put a t shirt over it when its not on as to protect it from dust(remember to take off the shirt/dust cover when you turn the thing on. an xbox 360 is basically a heater that plays games). in the longer run, i would recommend a ps3, since its less likely to get borked on you. but if you want in on the online play(gta 4 comes with a free month of xbox live gold, and the online play is quite fun to be honest), its pretty unanimous that the xbox live service works better than the playstation network.
anyway, excuse my tldr, i hope i was able to help somewhat.
Plus buying an expensive console with a low failure rate is meaningless if it doesn't have the games you want.
So Just enjoy your legaly purchased copy from GTA IV and don't come to me saying how super, mega, giga awesome it is...I already know. Peace!
