Story Thing and Possible New Gallery Stuff

Oh hey guys.
Before I get into the journal I am remembering I should probably post the art I have been neglecting to post. It is only a few piece, but one has been waiting since the holidays. Whoops.
Anyways...
-Story Thing-
Ok. So the story I have been writing for I don't even want to count how long is at a bit of a sang with the first part. The first segment is mostly background and not that exciting, but I also am afraid to post it because right now I think it is way to detailed and technical at some points. I had someone who was going to read it but never got back to me. Needless to say, I don't want to post it as is because i fear some parts have too much detail that could be seen as useless and would turn people off from reading any more as the first section doesn't have much action as it is.
So what am I going to do about it? Well I am just going to post the world notes later this week or so and then start working on the 2nd part. The second part will actually have more action and be easier to write. While I find a person or a few people to give input on the first part, I will get cranking on the second because I really want to get this thing moving!
I will admit that
ruaidri is doing a story contest this month and after being on the fence for a while I got started on a small related piece for his contest. I have until Tuesday to finish it but am almost done. Hopefully, based on my past story contest experience, I will do well. The piece itself will be like a modular plug-in to the main story. It won't fit in for a little bit and will be completely optional to read. It focuses a bit more on the private interactions between Jetta and Tsume, who meet through this story itself.
For those unaware, the Jetta character was honestly part of how this story got started. She was originally created just for art but then I wanted to create a back story for her and Tsume and well.. yeah. Don't consider the art canon to the story aside from some of it being quite good references for Jetta.
Aside from the actual writing of the story, my main challenge is making it mostly believable.

So for those who have been watching me, you know that all but my photography has some sort of indicator infront of it. Currently they are:
[Commission]
[Project]
I am debating on going back and adding [Photography] to the actual artistic phots and if I really feel like going all the way back adding [Digital] to some of my super old "not even sure why this is here" stuff, as well as adding [Story] or [Writing] to the one written piece that is there and using that tag for future written stuff.
Most notably, I am considering adding one for the models that I build. Up until recently they certainly weren't worth posting as while I have been building these models since I was in 5th or 6th grade, back then I was more into simply building them rather than taking the time to properly trim them detail them, etc.
Needless to say, I am currently working on a few new ones. One is being detailed right now, the other is being painted a custom color scheme, and the third will be started after I make sure I did the other two well enough (it is both one of my favorite objects and the most expensive of the three).
I also have a 4th one in the mail, which shouldn't require painting and will be more detail / "I am actually trying now" practice.
Would you guys actually want to see these posted? I'd even possibly take out all 42 of the old ones for one mass progress picture for the lulz.
For those wondering what type of models these are, the tag would be...

Lets see if anyone figures it out. :v

Kurt Vonnegut always said "Start your story as close to the end as possible" and I think that's what you should try here. You're very right that a big, implacable wall of exposition at the beginning will turn people off. So start the story off with something they will enjoy, narrative. A description of a scene, accounts of an event, action that keeps the pace moving. Then, when you reach a spot where the audience needs to be informed of something in order to understand what's going on that's where you put your exposition. Instead of starting off with "Look at this huge world and all this stuff I created!" To which people will "TL;DR" and move on, hook them in with something exciting and active, without any details. That will leave them wondering, wanting the explanation that you're all too happy to provide.
If you're talking sci-fi for example, which do you think is the better choice? Going the Star Wars Ep. I route and talking about how the Trade Federation has imposed imperial sanctions on Naboo forcing the local governments to draft up new treaties for the blah blah blah... Or do you start with your character aboard a ship that just got hit by a barrage of lasers and he's fighting for his life? When I see that, I want to know what's going to happen to him, and that suspense becomes even more meaningful because I want to know who this guy is, who's out there that wants to kill him and why? By just interspersing those expository segments into the narrative, you've made your reader go from being bored and trying to skip them, to being fascinated and asking for more. It's really quite an astonishing difference. To be honest, I suspect witchcraft.
Thanks very much for the reply, I have been pestering a friend to read it and hopefully with this and his feedback I can make some good decisions.
If this exposition target of yours talks to multiple people, highlighting the differences between their perspectives and opinions can be a very useful tool. Not only will it provide useful information, it can be used to help characterize the person who is speaking. Two people can observe the same situation and have completely different reactions to it based on their background. For example, if there's a conflict going on, someone in a command position is going to have a lot more experience with the social dynamics at work, and will actively consider the human element. Someone in a technical or engineering role will have a much more rigid, analytical thought process, thinking of it in terms of a troubleshooting analysis, more of a problem-solving mentality than a psychological one.
