I loved Samurai Pizza Cats, the chance to see the original uncut, unedited version was just too good to pass up. So I was quite excited when my copy came in the mail yesterday!
Well...There's one gripe I have with it, and many of you might have guessed it's the single most important thing in the whole deal. The Translation. Now for the average person, you'll have absolutely no problem with it at all. But for some one who's been watching subtitled anime and fan-subs (Which can sometimes be superior to official subs) for the better part of 15 years it's kind of a let down, but not a deal breaker.
The short end of it is that they get the job done for the most part. You'll never be confused about the story, and you'll always know whats going on. But ever so often you'll get the Chinese bootleg DVD syndrome with the translation. Remember when Anime got REALLY fucking huge at one point, and on-line discount anime dvd stores started popping up with whole Complete series for like $35 bucks? (Which back then was like a fucking steal!) Those were the Hong Kong "bootleg" DVDs. Apparently they weren't actually official or something, even though for certain releases that came to the U.S., they had both Japanese and English language dialogue. Well, try understanding what the hell is going on using subtitles that were double translated from Japanese to Chinese then to English.
Some actually came out pretty decent, others like this Sonic X and Shaman King dvds that I couldn't sell to save my life are just plain awful! Thankfully Pizza Cats never gets THAT bad. But I've run into bits and pieces of off translations in EVERY episode so far. Words like Shounen, which simply means young man, translated to "You Cad!". It's a lot of little things like that. When the old rich monkey tycoon says "Uki, Uki" which is the Japanese sound for a monkey's cry becomes "Look, look." which made absolutely no sense in the scene. Oh yeah, and one of my biggest gripes? All of the kanji that's presented on screen? Not translated at all. From signs, to robot names even when Yattaro (Speedy Cirviche) is reading a newspaper, which the camera then zooms in so yo can "read" it? Nothing. There's a lot more Kanji present than in the dubbed version, why the hell isn't it translated? I know it's not easy to translate these, but even fan-subbers translate the visible kanji in animes they work on.
Another problem I've recently just came across in the second disc, is the subtitles being off track. Meaning they're running too fast (Or too slow). I'm reading lines from two lines ahead in some cases. So far, it's only been in the end of episode 8 and all through 9. Hopefully I won't be dealing with to much of that in later episodes.
While I have my problems with it, this is a MUST HAVE for fans of the series. And I suggest you get it now while it's affordable. You see this shit right here? Look at those prices!! This damn thing went out of print a few years ago. It's apparently the rarest one out of the whole collection. I Bought volumes 1 - 3 a some time ago before it got this crazy and retailed for about $35. How pissed am I that volume 4 at a minimum is $139! And I guarantee you, at the very least, the Japanese version of Pizza Cats will be going the same route. It wasn't anywhere near as popular as Dragon Ball Z, so you know it's going to go out of print faster and few places seem to carry it.

nothing really shocking just interesting, if your interested in this guys little viedo series he basically gets to nerd out on whatever he wants, for one episode he goes over how yogi bears tie was improtant to the advancement of animation.
I just hope the KNT or the SPC DVD in July catch on with more people and give the fanbase some new life, getting sorta lonely here :P
