New Year Resolutions: More Reading
General
I usually don't care for resolutions, mainly because I know myself too well to think that by saying I'll do something at the beginning of the year, I'll eventually let it fizz out; and most things I need to do to better myself, or things I need to get done, are things I am already working on; and I don't need a New Year to tell me to do that.
That all being said, one thing I really want to do this year is read more books, particularly non-fiction, and particularly history. I have actually always been into history but never gave myself time to read more about it. The types of history books I want to read are very concentrated books, not dealing with a broad period of time or broad part of the world, but rather, I want to read books on very specific times and places in history, and learn about the people and the circumstances of the time; for example, I want to read more about Scotland/Ireland and the different events that have happened throughout the ages. I also want to know more about the history of Australia and New Zealand; and of course, I want to read more about American history and the various wars. I love the little details. Apart from history I actually have taken a bit of interest in law lately. Law is such an intricate thing and I really want to get around to familiarizing myself with it more in depth. I've even entertained the possibility of going back to school and studying Indian law, seeing as how I've been involved for a while now with a number of forums, rallies, and demonstrations regarding treaty rights between Indian nations and the government. There is a lot to it that I really want to dive into. The nice thing about reading is that you can do a lot of it while traveling on a plane or on a train or the like. While there is a lot going on in my life right now with the job and performance groups, I know for sure that I can find more time for reading.
Well, even though I said in the first paragraph that I didn't think things like this as a resolution, I still do want to continue to be a better friend to everyone as I always have. I want to think of more ways of showing my friends I love and appreciate them. My friendships have given me laughter and good times, and carried me through in hard times. You know who you are, those of you who talk to me often, thank you for being my friends, and I want to be a better friend for you this coming year. Thank you all. Here's to a good 2014.
