Because my mother now has a breathing tube and cannot speak normally, a number of people have suggested that she use her phone to text.

This would be an excellent idea except for one thing... Mama don't text. She's an extremist techno-phobe.

She's never used a computer. She cannot recover voicemail from her phone without help. She even refuses to pump her own gas.

Until recently, she even refused to use credit card swipe machines at supermarkets. She had us do it for her.

Mom has a deep seated fear of electronic devices --selectively. It doesn't stop her from having cable or using a microwave. But anything "phone" or "computer" is right out.

---Unless this inability to talk gets frustrating enough. Then we might have something.
