graphics card suggestions for a nvidia gtx 1060?
hi all! so, im looking into saving to upgrade my graphics card, it's been showing signs of dying on me (grinding fans, running REALLY hot) and i'm just getting ready to actually invest in a new one.
i just wanted to throw this to the wind to get some input on what good options would be! so any help/advice is appreciated : D
currently my system looks like the following:
fractal design define R5 gaming case
intel i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz, 4 core
corsair CX series 650 watt PSU
16 GB DDR3 dual ram
AMD radeon R9 200 / HD 7900 3GB series (the card im going to be replacing)
(not sure what else would be good to know specs wise..)
my budget is to stay under $300, and i was eyeing this one here:
ASUS GeForce GTX 1060 6GB Dual-fan OC Edition VR Ready Dual HDMI DP 1.4 Gaming Graphics Card (DUAL-GTX1060-O6G)
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01JHQT1S.....v_ov_lig_dp_it
my only thing is i want to be able to handle games like nier:automata at ultra settings (this is the requirement that my old OLD card prior to the AMD could not run so this is my lowest minimum), and i'm not interested in overclocking or anything like that either. idk what 4k vs 1k with framerate biz is, i just want it to run smooth when playing. i don't stream or anything.
but i want a better graphics card or at least the same in terms of power here that'll last me a long time for under $300 or maybe even a little over that mark if it's honestly worth it.
but yeah, opinions on that card? maybe other suggestions for any other nvidia geforce gtx 1060s? (ONLY 1060s, i cannot afford anything like a 1070/1080 and don't wanna invest that much since im pretty casual)
thanks for the help all!<3

Grinding fan is probably just a dry bearing, which you can easily fix on your own with a bit of car engine/transmission oil - basically any oil that's non-organic. Dust accumulation is also probably a factor in why you're getting high(er) than usual temps. Regardless of what kind of fan type your card has (stock or third party design) it can easily be taken apart without having to remove the heatsink from the GPU. Clean/blow the dust from the heatsink, take off the fan(s), carefully peel off the sticker at the back, remove the rubber cap (if present) and add a few drops of oil. Spin for a bit so that the oil makes it through the bearing and put everything back together. Should last a bit more.
Good luck.
thank you for the helpful info! <3
One would be to just clean your card. Even without taking off the plastic heatsink cover to get a better access to the internals you should be able to just blow the dust out through the openings.
If you don't mind a bit (a lot actually) of extra noise, you could download something like an MSI Afterburner app and adjust your fan speed curve (or just set it to 100% at all times) so you get more fan spin when the card reaches certain temperatures. You can also downclock (opposite of overclocking) the card to prevent it from ever reaching the performance that makes it too hot. Of course there's also the option to simply take off your PC case cover and point a desk fan at your card; the more cool air the card has to work with, the cooler it would be.
also, i notice the 2nd fan does not spin? like i can spin it with my finger, there's no blockage, but it does not spin at all in the computer even under high use if i run a game. only one fan, so i'm not surprised it may be overheating. any ideas, or is that a sign of a dead fan?
i will check it out when i open it though, see if the oil/cleaning it out will help any. :')
If all else fails, you could just remove the standard fan shroud and zip-tie a 120mm case fan to the graphics card. Hell, doing that actually tends to improve cooling performance anyway, though obviously at the cost of needing more space. https://youtu.be/-yQHAMz1v5g?t=2m5s
excited to clean out the card though and replace the thermal compound with some better stuff, i bet that will help a lot! thank you!<3
Much easier way to do it so you don't have to remove the entire assembly, just the heat sink.

For some cards this method might not work for but it did for mine.
If you're too lazy or lack the confidence for that, you can get a can of compressed air and try blowing the dust out without disasembling it. Not as effective but it should still work.
Here's a guide if you like, too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOKSZ86xfm4
