hey nerds

So, I've talked with my partner (who is much smarter than I) about making a Patreon as recently people have been asking about it.
In the end, I've realized that I have to make a decision. If I do want to make money from my work, it has to be 100% my work. Original to me. As in, not anything that could be classified as "fanfiction".
While I know that I could probably "get away with it" for some things, the fact of the matter is that the majority of my works, though highly influenced by my own thoughts and creative process, are more or less glorified fanfiction.
- Champion's Heart is Corruption of Champions fanfiction
- Final Fantasy: Perdita Tenebris Meam is Final Fantasy 14 fanfiction
- the Dragon Age Origins project, which I have yet to post on here, is Dragon Age Origins fanfiction
- Secure. Contain. Petrify would be SCP Containment Breach fanfiction
As well as, for my current commission information, I also offer to write requested fanfiction for a fee.
Bottom line is that any and all of this could get me in trouble, in one way or another, as I would be making money off of intellectual properties that don't belong to me.
Of course, I have several of my own original ideas. But for several of these other ideas I've put at least one year, if not several, into their conception (is that even the word I'm looking for?). The only way I would be able to safely make money off of my work without any worry of something that something could be against ToS or could get me in trouble with a larger entity is if I simply... don't do it.
I think the only reason why I'm so annoyed about this is that, when it comes right down to it, I can understand why I would get in trouble for making money off of blatant fanfiction. And while I could specifically state that I'm not trying to do just that, if I were to connect both this FA account and something like a Patreon someone could always make the argument that that's exactly what I'm doing.
So I suppose, now, I'm stuck between trying to make this a thing and actually try and make a regular flow of money off of my work or deciding that my love for my fanfiction based ideas is all that I need and to try and find some other kind of job. Due to health reasons jobs that require a lot of standing are pretty much 100% out of the question, and I can selfishly admit that I really don't want to go back to a desk job. I'm 31 years old, I've already almost died three times now. I want to be able to live the rest of my life doing something I genuinely want to do and love doing. But that would require either completely reworking or completely throwing away many projects I've put so much time and effort into.
So I suppose, for now, the answer is... I'm not sure. If I can figure out how to make this work, while also protecting myself and my work, then sure. Otherwise? I just don't know...

But another way to commercialize writing fan fiction is to participate in author competitions. Some authors hold thematic fan fiction contests for their works every few years. The most successful and most recognized are sent to the publisher and published in special collections. That is, the authors of the Canon themselves allow the fiction writer to earn money by recognizing related copyright.
But I believe that such a chance and opportunity is extremely rare..π
Someone can advise edit tyoi fan fiction: by renaming characters, places, and cities.. so that it differs from the original. But this is not the best solution. And I guess your heart won't let you do that either..
Therefore, it remains only to collect the will, inspiration and thoughts in a fist, and write to paint their worlds>:3
I am sure that the stories and worlds invented by you personally are worth the attention of the whole world!πΈπΈπΈπΈπΈπΈπΈπΈπΈπΈπΈπΈπΈπΈ
Yeah, I've seen several fanfiction writing contests, and on very rare occasions the person who's won is allowed to make money off of it. And it isn't to say I don't have my own "completely original" ideas. I've just already put so much work into these ideas, they mean a lot to me. I suppose, in the end, to do them true justice I should repurpose them into their own stories.
I suppose, when it comes right down to it, I'm scared I'm not creative enough to make it on my own ideas.
But that's no way to live life.
Thank you very much for your kind words. If there's at least one person who believes in my original work, then I feel that maybe I can make it after all.
