...that as a woman who plays a female character I am both the minority in fandom as well as viewed a little askance.
Would I be more interesting if I grew a penis? Arguably. But I would no longer be me. Or Eryth for that matter.
That's not to say that I wouldn't love to magically grow one for a few convenient hours, but permanent herm-hood just isn't for me.
Sometimes I feel like I'm not taking full advantage of my opportunity to "play pretend" and imagine "what if." But if it's not something I'm interested in doing, nor something that holds any allure for me, why do it?

I think there's lots of women in the fandom these days. I think there's enough fun to be had out there without dick-centric folks getting in the way of exploration and imagination.

Jenni is not a male character, nor has a peen. However, I do have other characters that I like to doodle and such that are male, and fancy either suiting as them, or growing personal attachment to them. :3 If nothing else, try out a side character! The beauty of this fandom holds the excessive bliss of imagination and it's positively limitless.

Unfortunately I run into the same thing myself. Most of the fandom shows a general dis-interest towards females, and this is especially seen in interactions on what I assume is the "Playing around" you mention. But sometimes you can find folks that are interested, or at least make it so they are interested, without going herm or male. It just takes some doing
