Hi guys!
I seriously need to get stuck back into fursuit making. I've taken a decent break for the sake of my mental health, and I finally feel ready and able to start getting back to it.
So to help ease me into it I thought I might take some tail commissions! Just a few, not many at all- with a reasonably quick turnaround.

Hi guys!
I’ve been pretty quiet recently, even before FurDu, and the reasons for that have been personal- but I want to share at least a little about it. So I’m sorry but this isn’t going to be a super chirpy happy journal!
If you’re negatively affected by mentions of depression or suicidal thoughts please don’t read!
Mental illness runs in my family. My maternal side anyway- always has done. It has even taken the life of one of my uncles. To be honest with myself I knew it would happen eventually, but a few months ago I was officially diagnosed with depression, anxiety and (one that surprised me-) obsessive compulsive disorder. I don’t fanatically clean things as the stereo type would suggest though- it’s more that have great difficulty when things don’t turn out the way I expect them to and that if a negative thought enters my head it is very hard for me to stop obsessing over it. While I’m no longer at the severe end of any of those spectrums, I am still currently working with a Psychologist to try and help myself get better and am on some medication.
I struggle greatly to see myself in any positive light at all. When I think of myself I see someone with many more flaws than the average person. Someone that doesn’t belong in this world—or someone that just doesn’t deserve to be in it. If I mess up and get something wrong, I beat myself up over it. A lot. I have great fears about my future and about work etc, and recently have been having bad dreams or nightmares almost every night. I feel so damn useless most of the time. I don’t cut myself or burn myself, my self-degradation is most always internal and in my head. Then again sometimes in a vain attempt to stop those thoughts I hit my head hard with my hands or against something like a table—but that’s only when I’m really upset. Whilst I’ve never actually made an attempt to take my own life, the thought has come up more than a few times. But I could never go through with it. I wouldn’t be able to leave those I love behind in a mess I made.
I am so, so lucky to have my boyfriend Times in my life. Without him it’s possible that I may not have sought the help that I did. I’m also extremely grateful for all of my friends- and they each mean more to me than I could ever express in words.
I wanted to write this journal to explain how I’m feeling and to just write it all out, but at the same time it makes me feel as though I’m not worthy of feeling the pain that I do. I have such a good life, so many fantastic, loving people in it- that I feel guilty for having this mental illness.
I’ve learned that I need to stop being so hard on myself. Especially over the things I cannot control like my genetic predisposition to mental illness in the first place.
I want so badly to continue with my fursuit work and my artwork, but if something isn’t working out or isn’t perfect I get super upset by it and off put by it. I find motivation and concentration very tricky recently—but I’m working on it. I want so, so badly to get back into a regular routine with fursuit work. But then I also want to try finding a part time job… so I feel caught between those two worlds like I can’t manage doing both at once. Which makes me feel pathetic because I know so many others cope with so much more at once.
I’m sorry if this sounds a little disjointed, my mind often runs through things too fast for my typing hands to keep up with and then I forget what I was trying to say before.
I guess I just wanted to say that if you’re facing trouble.. any kind of trouble…. Just tell someone. Anyone.
I know how you feel. I know you feel so alone- so worthless.
Tell someone. Get it off your chest and someone can help you.
There is too much magic in this world to give up on it. So many things worth fighting for, so many sunrises still to see.
I still have bad days like today, but I’ve found ways of coping. Mental health issues just don’t disappear because you’re on some meds- they’re something you have to work at. You have to want to work at it.
In the end, there’s more to life than this. There are things that I want in this world, things I look forward to and things I want to achieve.
And you can bet your butt I ain’t leaving this Earth until I reach those goals.
I’m tired of surviving. I want to live.

Some terrible things happened in 2016... but getting together with
ParamediCoyote was one of the best things that has ever happened to me in my life. Feb 12th will be our one year anniversary ^^

Wow
I've just been blown away by the amount of support I received on my previous journal. Thank you all so, so much!
I really want to make 8Bit-Works happen, and I want to try everything in my power to do so. Since the making of that previous journal I have actually finished another fursuit head! Just haven't posted any pictures yet. I'm already working on the next suit, and I just want to keep going and going.
I just wanted to say thank you all for believing in me <3 I can only hope and work hard to do you guys proud.

I need advice... supporting yourself on your art? Very upset

Hey guys,
Slightly less happy journal than normal. I just… need to type this out I suppose and I wish to ask for advice. Everyone struggles with direction ad stagnation from time to time in their lives, but mine has almost been predetermined by family events. I have two older brothers. Both of which my parents tend to deem as being failures.
I am the 3rd child and was the ‘final hope’ if you like. That I would do well in highschool, and that I would go on through university/college doing some degree and go on to some high paying job.
The highschool bit was fine. I did very well and did more than my brothers ever did. Towards the end of year 12 I started to freak out a little as everyone does. What do I want to do as a career for the rest of my life? I don’t know- I have no idea- bloody hell I’ve only existed for seventeen years at this point. Out of desperation I choose a games design course. I like art and I like games, how could this go wrong?
I hated it.
I hated it so much I never want to go back to Uni. I loved the people I was with but being in a school environment again brought be so much stress and anxiety- drawing back on the pressure my parents put on me to do well.
I took a leave of absence hoping my fears would settle and I might be able to return to that course. Two years later I am as strongly against it as when I began.
My parents have tried hard to push me into some sort of other course- anything else. Dad wants me to be a nurse for some godforsaken reason- I am by far not the kind of person suited for that job or anything close to it.
Because of lack of experience from a young age I have struggled in getting any form of work. I used to have a casual job as a waitress for a little while. I did a few shifts but then they just stopped asking me back. So yes, I need to get some sort of work simply to have on my resume—I understand that. But it’s the age old problem. Can’t get a job without experience, can’t get experience without a job.
Even people with experience are going through hell trying to get work these days.
Though I will keep searching for another job of some kind be it retail or whatever, all this has led me to look at something I truly enjoy. I love fursuit making and I know I’m good at it. If I believe in my abilities and work harder than I ever have before, surely I can progress 8Bit-Works into a small business I can support myself with?
My parents certainly don’t think so.
And that’s almost what’s hardest. They supported me immensely with my initial foray into costume craft- why not now? When I really need their reassurance that I can do this- they turn around and snap at me- “Fursuit making isn’t a real job.” “You’ll never be successful enough to support yourself with this.” “It’s just a hobby.”
“Do something with your life.”
I can see the disappointment in my mother’s eyes. She has said to me “so you’re going to be just like your brothers, right?” Alluding to their ‘failure’ in life.
Yeah, I guess I am going to be like them. Only in that I don’t want to go back to university unless it’s for a small business degree. Which again they also don’t seem to believe in.
All this being said my parents aren't horrible people. They insist they say all these things for my own good and I truly do believe they only snap at me because they don't want me to struggle further on in life when I don't have them to help me. Though I understand that...It's difficult to make them understand me.
I’ve told myself I can’t let them get me down. My close friends and boyfriend have helped me so much, comforted me and told me to ignore them- That the ‘starving artist’ stereotype doesn’t have to be real.
But it’s gotten to the point where I severely doubt myself and by work.
I’m scared is the most honest response.
No, I don’t know if I can do this but I want to try… I look at other makers-

thatsfurredup and so many, many more—I want to be like them. Why can’t I be like them? If they can do it surely so can I.I used to be so lazy…. But a swift figurative kick in the butt from
paramedicoyote cured that. I began working so much harder, and I’ve come to realise so much about myself and how easy I have had life.I want to get better.
I want to do more.
I want to get a ‘proper job’ as well.
I want my parents to not see me as a failure.
But most of all I want to grow 8Bit-Works to a point where I can support myself.

And please, if you support yourself off of your art or your craft, please let me know how you do it and your struggles but most of all your triumphs. I know it must be hard- but if my heart is in this I need to know of the reality as well as the fantasy.

As you can see I just uploaded photos and a video of my newest commissioned suit- Swirl the cat!
My first feline I think they turned out real cute- but let me know what you think!
I've had a new schedule recently of working straight from 10 to around 6 on fursuit work alone apart from a lunch break. It's been working very well and my productivity has increased significantly.
Typing up this up to let you all know that I won't be here from the 17th of September until the 23rd as I'm travelling to a different state to visit my friend riorioriorio with paramedicoyote~! This means I won't be doing any suit work until I get back and I may not be able to respond to emails.
If you have any questions about anything feel free to let me know! Again I apologise if I'm a little slow in responding- I am only one person handling all of this :D

I apologise if there has been a slight delay in my getting back to you about anything! Unfortunately I'm unwell again and have just been to the doctor about it. I should be healthy again after some rest but it does depend on whether the cause ends up being simple and easy to fix-- or something much more serious. We just don't know yet.
That being said don't worry about me :D I'm good.
As soon as I can I will be getting stuck back into fursuit work. Swirl's handpaws are complete, I just haven't posted photos yet. Pixel's new head is so close to completion I really only need to fur it now. Gluing down the fur is an intricate process so I need to wait until I'm better so that I can completely concentrate whilst doing it.
Other than that, how are you guys? I hope you're well!

I have had a lot of filled in form responses, and it is going to take me a while to get through them all and choose which characters to take on.
Please be patient! I will be replying to all who submitted a form over the next week.
Those who I've chosen will get a formal quote in their reply, those who unfortunately didn't make it will get an apology and unfortunately no quote as I am one person and just don't have the time to quote everyone.

FurDu was an absolute blast and I enjoyed it so much. Now that I'm back I'm trying to get my stuff sorted out in order to open for some commission slots. I want to make 8Bit-Works a successful business that regularly makes suits!
I'm not open for quotes yet, but feel free to leave me a comment/ask a question on this journal so that I may gauge interest!

The base prices have risen because I feel the quality of my work has greatly improved! Please remember these prices are in Australian Dollars, and I will not be taking parts-only commissions. I will be opening for Heads, Partials or Fullsuits.
I'm going to re-write my commission quote form now, and when I reopen commissioners that can pay in full up front (or most of the total quote upfront) will be more likely to get chosen. That being said, the design of your character and how I feel they will fit 8Bit-Works' style matters most! If I love your character, you might get a slot even if you need use a payment plan. So please don't be discouraged by not being able to pay in full upfront!
The soonest I could officially open for quotes would be next week. There is still a great deal of preparation I need to get done beforehand so that I am organised and ready.
If I've forgotten to mention anything I will update this journal.

The base prices have risen because I feel the quality of my work has greatly improved! Please remember these prices are in Australian Dollars, and I will not be taking parts-only commissions. I will be opening for Heads, Partials or Fullsuits.
I'm going to re-write my commission quote form now, and when I reopen commissioners that can pay in full up front (or most of the total quote upfront) will be more likely to get chosen. That being said, the design of your character and how I feel they will fit 8Bit-Works' style matters most! If I love your character, you might get a slot even if you need use a payment plan. So please don't be discouraged by not being able to pay in full upfront!
The soonest I could officially open for quotes would be next week. There is still a great deal of preparation I need to get done beforehand so that I am organised and ready.
If I've forgotten to mention anything I will update this journal.

Getting back into the swing of things

Finally feeling better after a week and a half of just... horribleness. Yeah, I was sick. That would have been okay but... not long after I got sick, a friend of mine I had known for 8 years passed away in a tragic accident. You don't expect your childhood friends to just... leave your life like that.
It was a rough time and a difficult thing to deal with, but I'm healing both physically and emotionally. I'm okay! Please don't worry about me <3
I'm hoping now to slowly get back into the swing of things with suit making. Figure out how to do Peony's ears properly, and also reveal a personal secret project suit I have been working on in my spare time between commissions~
8Bit-Works is building up a style and now I'm back to continue doing my best.

I just hit 1000 watchers on this account~! Thank you all so much ^^ I hope you continue to enjoy my work and I will keep doing my best!
I have been thinking about doing a timelapse sort of thing for a while. I was thinking I'd set up a camera and film while I foam the headbase for one of the other premades from start to finish. Then I'll upload the sped up version to youtube for you all to watch if you're interested in my process!
If the filming doesn't work, I'll just snap a photo every few minutes and then upload the time lapse as a GIF instead~ but I'd much rather do a video if I can get my camera to cooperate with me. :D
If the foaming timelapse does end up happening and it's reasonably successful/popular, I'll consider filming other parts of my suit making and condense those into time lapses too~

Final bit of info- I have a working sewing machine, but I'm not certain for how long it will keep cooperating with me xD When I got it working again I speed sewed 6 balaclavas together so that IF it breaks again I still have foam work I can do in the mean time~!

Sewing machine troubles + CLOSED for commission quotes!

My sewing machine is giving me absolute hell right now. So I went and bought a new one... this new one can't even get a simple straight stitch right. I GIVE UP. I'll be returning this faulty new one and going hunting for a good Janome or Husqvarna on Sunday probably because this is driving me mad. All I want to do is sew a simple balaclava together so I can start a foam base for a head but both these sewing machines just outright refuse to cooperate no matter what I try.
I hate sinking money into expensive machinery that's going to break like this so often- it's ridiculous.
If anyone has any specific reccomendations on what machines to buy do let me know~ they need to be able to handle sewing stretchy lycra and the bulk of faux fur. And have a zig zag stitch. That's all I ask of it~
Ahhhh.
Okay, anyway. I'm now officially closed for fursuit commissison quotes~ I did get bombarded with emails so I haven't replied to everyone yet. Please be patient! I promise to get back to everyone by the end of today. There were so many lovely characters, it was extremely difficult to choose who to take on!
Forgive me if I didn't choose your character to work on! I wish I could do everyone I really do. I'm uncertain how long it will be before I open up again. I'm hoping for at least one more opening before the end of 2015.

Alrighty! So, Violet Foxx is almost finished completely. Just got to fix her padding/bodysuit, take photos, pack her up and send her off to her new home with the lovely
in Texas!Since she's nearing completion it means I can open up for suit commissions again ^^ This time I will take more than one suit on if I can, but not more than 2 or 3- it depends on what I get quote requests for (be it just heads, partials or fullsuits etc)
So they're not open yet, but I will be making an announcement journal when they are. Which should be within the month to give you warning (maybe 2 weeks or so- but don't hold me to that)
I'm going to continue working to improve my work, as well as the speed at which I create. I won't rush anything of course, but there are some things I know I could be doing faster for sure~ Still a new maker! Still learning <3 Always learning, but keen to do the best for my commissioners.
Now I have two questions. If I were to make a few premade heads/partials, what would you be interested in seeing/bidding on?
One design I have in mind currently is a chocolate brown tiger with turquoise stripes. It would be a technical challenge with those stripes as well as an artistic one as well as I haven't done a feline yet (but am eager for it~)
Which reminds me I still need to finish that Citrus coloured Maned wolf. I will resume work on him once Violet's out of my care~
Second question- WHY ARE PHOTOGRAPHY BACKDROPS SO DIFFICULT TO PURCHASE IN AUSTRALIA.
I swear, the good quality ones are either international and refuse to ship to Australia, or will ship here/are local and are horrendously overpriced.
Come nowww I just want to take some pretty photos ;;
So yeah if anyone happens to know a place to get them that will actually ship to me here in Aussieland, let me know~

I'm now going to close for now and wait for replies from those whom I sent calculated quotes to~ Now for the difficult part, choosing which one of these adorable characters to make. You've all made this decision very difficult and I'm so happy about that ^^
The reason I'm only choosing one for now is to make sure I do not overload myself with work when I'm just starting out~ I want to make sure that my work is high quality and you end up with a suit you love!
