graphics card suggestions for a nvidia gtx 1060?
Posted 7 years agohi all! so, im looking into saving to upgrade my graphics card, it's been showing signs of dying on me (grinding fans, running REALLY hot) and i'm just getting ready to actually invest in a new one.
i just wanted to throw this to the wind to get some input on what good options would be! so any help/advice is appreciated : D
currently my system looks like the following:
fractal design define R5 gaming case
intel i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz, 4 core
corsair CX series 650 watt PSU
16 GB DDR3 dual ram
AMD radeon R9 200 / HD 7900 3GB series (the card im going to be replacing)
(not sure what else would be good to know specs wise..)
my budget is to stay under $300, and i was eyeing this one here:

my only thing is i want to be able to handle games like nier:automata at ultra settings (this is the requirement that my old OLD card prior to the AMD could not run so this is my lowest minimum), and i'm not interested in overclocking or anything like that either. idk what 4k vs 1k with framerate biz is, i just want it to run smooth when playing. i don't stream or anything.
but i want a better graphics card or at least the same in terms of power here that'll last me a long time for under $300 or maybe even a little over that mark if it's honestly worth it.
but yeah, opinions on that card? maybe other suggestions for any other nvidia geforce gtx 1060s? (ONLY 1060s, i cannot afford anything like a 1070/1080 and don't wanna invest that much since im pretty casual)

ive found several designs that were gifts or obtained for free being sold and i'm getting really frustrated about finding them. to hopefully prevent others from profitting off my friendship, please try to post here when/if you can so that i can keep track of things being exchanged, so if someones selling something that should NOT be sold, i can know earlier rather than months later. like even if it was passed around i can still tell if it was supposed to be sold or not. either way im tired of gifts of the past suddenly being taken advantage of, and seeing people paying money for designs that shouldnt have been sold in the first place.
let this also be another reminder to not sell gift designs or any designs ive made that were free?? i cant believe this has to be said?? if it was a birthday, xmas, or just a random gift, STOP PROFITING OFF OF IT. do not resell them unless they come with extra!!! (which the designs that were freebies ive seen have had no extras either that were sold.)

IT'S BEEN A WHILE~ (UPDATE!)
Posted 7 years agowow.. so usually i make journals whenever holidays and events hit but i've felt so like... anti-social? i'm so sorry LOL orz... i miss giving updates and stuff but lately i've just been busy and occupied with things that when i finally decide to sit down and do an update or talky journal i just go "eh" and stop.. jeez where do i even begin here--- if you're interested in my daily life you can always follow my twitter (@alpacasovereign) if you want to talk on there and see what i'm up to!!
happy SUPER BELATED NEW YEAR JEEZ my holidays were wonderful though!! <3 i had a really lovely time with the family!!! christmases are so different now, but in the best way possible tbh... we are both now also getting into BJDs as a hobby since we both got eachother a doll for xmas-- and i want to work on faceups as commission one day so you will see my attempts here too showing up, hehe <3
oh and i got new glasses!!! mama bought them for me and i am forever so thankful ;___; my prescription got worse (a -15 to a -17) and my glasses were over 4 years old. i've always had issues seeing from distance before due to my nearsightedness, but i really could not see much past a few inches from my face. it was REALLY awful. and mama was so worried so she took me to try and get help, but a lot of places couldn't do my prescription because it's a specific high-index lens, but also VERY specifically for people with shit eyesight (aka me) and she found a guy last moment that really helped us.. it was something like a miracle, i think.
but i just got my new glasses on friday and i've adjusted to them fully i think! no headaches! and they are so cute and perfect, and best of all, i can see from reasonable distances again like on grocery store shelves or food menus and street signs and license plates-- and it's a very new and magical world for me :'D my glasses before have never been this.. clear either. like everything was in HD when i put them on, i couldnt stop looking at my hands and how sharp and vivid everything was. i can't really explain it, but it was such a good feeling, i could've cried- I WAS close to crying, but i was too excited and happy to cry. but they are finally starting to feel more natural, the shape of the lens also helps my peripherals so i can see REALLY far down or up and to the sides because the lenses are so big and wide!
in the future i am looking into gas membrane contacts to help my eyesight, and maybe even phakic IOL surgery, but that's around 2-5k PER EYE and doesn't take insurance because insurance can suck my dick but. maybe one day. my parents let me know they're selling the house and i get a cut of it so i could put it towards that.. or just go to sweden or norway and get it done for way cheaper lololol BUT WE SHALL SEE...
what else-- oh! my birthday is coming up on thursday, the first! i can't believe i'm turning 25 haha.. it's very weird, like i didn't expect to see 25. not for any dark reasons.. well maybe, but also because like, thinking of how you age is just so WEIRD. i still feel like i'm 21. after 21, nothing really changes much. 23, 24, 25-- it all feels the exact same honestly. BUT I'M VERY EXCITED because we're taking friday off to go get free drinks and go to albany to pick up a game that my wife is picking up for me as my gift! and maybe browsing their mall? idk, i just love walking around malls and exploring stores. and then sushi for lunch, and ITS JUST gonna be a REALLY good time <33 and then birthday dinner with the family on sunday night! SO IM REALLY REALLY EXCITED.
idk man there's a lot going on right now but that's the main stuff hip happening around, there's more to it than that but this is already really long.. oops..
OH YEAH, ABOUT COMMISSIONS--
i don't make enough on patreon to stop taking them. i will leave my commission post up in a journal again and let people come and go with them for very minimal support when those on patreon aren't interested. it's just because after helping pay for stuff, i don't get to save much of it either, so i will be making adopts and collabs and YCHs and stuff soon to help my goal for house saving! <3 so if you try to get a commission and there's no response i am probably either not very interested or i am waiting for the right time to accept it.
i am also considering raising my prices more since i don't plan on taking them normally, so expect a price raise on them soon. i have 2 i have taken over xmas that will be finished in the next few weeks at my leisure, but yeah-- just a heads up on what i'm thinking about i guess!

i was curious though, what do ppl mostly prefer with them?
do you like when they match aesthetically and look similar/like they match or do you like unlikely couples, that their designs might clash, but would be thematically interesting? or maybe both? :0c do you like if theyre specific or more left to the imagination?
just any ideas or feedback would be super helpful! we will be trying these soon and i just want to have some ideas to work with, but never done this before and i don't know the general preference for it.. so feel free to let me know your thoughts!

RECOMMENDATIONS: computer gaming cases!
Posted 8 years agoHI ALL<333 okay so, im kinda just looking for like. options. for xmas i've told everyone that my main wish is to fix my computer that got damaged in transit last year, which includes getting a brand new computer shell for it to take it and transfer the innards of mine as well as a new power bank to support a graphics card i was gifted by foulsbane :D!!
my budget for the shell is $150 thanks to my dad who said that could be my xmas gift haha ;w;
also i've had mid size towers but i may even want a full one, thoughts?
MY MAIN CONCERNS are cooling and quietness and roominess for the stuff going into it!! i also dont really have a preference for those 'glass' screens on the side but will consider??
AND i really need a cd drive bay, some of these i see don't have it-- and if they don't, is it a hard thing to modify?? i would think so but i mean.. maybe??

Posted 8 years agoHI ALL<3 wowieeee i'm back again, was housesitting for our mama while she was on vacation! and tbh i think i needed that, i feel better now mentally, and i think i'm like.. back in a good place again, i feel refreshed, kinktober's been a good warmup for me, and yeah!! think i'm ready to go again!!
BUT NOW COMES THE TOPIC OF THE FUTURE: we want to start seriously saving for a house!!! we want to take the next step and get a permanent living situation set up and then we can do w/e, but anyways, that's gonna take a long time and a lot of money, SO SAVING TIME IS A GO!!!
also this means i'll be looking to collab a lot, ill be trying to put out adopts more, and also try and squeeze in more commissions and auctions for art, already thinking of putting another sticker auction up within the week! and also art slave stuff probably when i can get through my current workload :'D
and, as always, i can't stress enough i live off the money i make over on patreon, and you can always donate to my paypal or ko-fi if you want to help out a bit but not permanently!! it'd mean a lot and help me even a little towards our new goal<333

Posted 8 years agolmao god what a. journey that was. ended up coming home earlier than planned because of horrible stressful family drama. won't get into the details here but let's just say it wasn't worth sticking around for.
thank you to everyone who left me messages on my journals with condolences ;0; i rly havent had like a moments peace to grieve since her passing so i'll probably be working through that later.
tomorrow is a nice break time with my wifey gillbear and then it's back to work... i may put up a sticker auction. im so fucking low on my initial savings from my vacation and this trip, it's not even funny so.. wish me luck :'D

Posted 8 years agolast night my mom mom passed away. we managed to get her to a hospice house where they cleaned her up, did her hair, made her as comfy as she could possibly be. i stayed with her when everyone left to get food, and then when they came to get me to take me back for food as well, as we were driving we just got the call and rushed back.
she died peacefully with her favorite music in the background and surrounded by those she loved. she got to pass on her own terms and we made sure she didnt suffer and wantrd her to be the most comfy she could be.
she fought really hard against the cancer that came back for her and the previous day we thought she might somehow be okay-- but i think thats part of the process.
anyways i have no regrets and was glad to be here with her especially when she was aware and could talk to me... so it was definitely worth it to be with her in her final days.
i love you mom mom, sweet dreams, youll always be in our hearts... 💔⚘

Posted 8 years agoso guess whos going back to FL a day after coming home from disney bc my grandma is dying?????/ this bitch!!!!!
yeah i got the text and talked to family.. i'm not going to get into details but everyone's gathering the family so i'm going back. i haven't seen her within the past like 3-4 years and now this'll be the last time i get to. it's not really something i can just not go and do, no matter how much i really don't want to, because i'm already really drained of money as is and i really don't want to go back to FL.
i'm leaving tomorrow night and will be there in the morning on monday. i will return oct 1st. i am so, fucking sorry, that again there won't be a lot of activity from me until this is sorted and i come back. and.. i may need some time. gosh. this really fucking sucks. i feel numb as fuck and don't want to do this.
but yes- please please let me know if there's anything i can do. i don't think i can work on very much until i get back but i can always do ipad drawings and traditional stuff until i do.
