I would be interested in meeting up with other artists and making some art during the heat of the day.

An announcement about this account and my art in general...
Posted 14 years agoI've been exceedingly busy this last year or so trying to get done with school. I finally finished my Bachelor of Fine Arts this May.
Spending all that time away from the internet has been a wake-up call for me as to what I want and need in my life. I need to create an online presence for my art and photography works and I absolutely need it to not be associated with the Aviva Shywolf name. Being away from the fur fandom also means that i've not really been drawing furries at all for a while. Its not that I hate the fandom, it's just that it isn't really that important in my life right now.
So what does this mean for the rest of you?
It means that I'm not going to be uploading here as much anymore, especially with artwork that is not in any way/shape/form related to anthropomorphic beings. I will also probably remove the artwork that is part of my "professional" portfolio and will change the rating status of all of my work so that it will not show up on a search engine.
If you WANT to see my "professional portfolio" and my photography works, I will post a link on this page so that it can be easily accessible.

Everyone NEEDS to know: In case you hadn't heard...
Posted 14 years ago...Governor (asswipe) Brownback killed the arts program. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/sarah....._b_812478.html
It still has to be voted on by the Senate (or maybe the House, I can't remember where the bill is currently), but since the majority of both houses is Republican, it will more than likely be supported.
There was an arts rally at the Capital in Topeka February 10th. I wasn't able to make it because I got off work the same time the rally started. It sounds like the rally went well (the entire art building at my college got to afternoon classes late and allowed all their students to be late because of the rally) and there were several representatives that spoke at the rally saying that they won't let this bill pass. However, we still don't have the amount of representative supporters that we need to keep this from passing yet...
As I reiterated in my last journal ( http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/2027399/ ), this obviously sucks for Kansas, but what scares me is how we're now an example for other states. Kansans kinda knew Brownback was going to come through and stomp out the arts and any other liberal programs/media (he's also trying to pull the ol' "There's no such thing as Rape" type of laws and pro-life bullshit, but that's another angry rant for another time). To kill the arts program calls attention to Kansas in a negative way, AGAIN (as if the Phelps and the creationism/evolution bullshit weren't enough). Kansas now serves as that example for states everywhere as to how they can get away with budget cuts or completely killing arts programs and showing how much money they "save" by doing so (not that they care about the moral of their citizens, obviously not).
Other states will have an easier time killing arts programs if they can pull Kansas out of their asses as their golden example of what will happen. THIS is the part that truly scares me.
I'm graduating from college this summer with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Unless I work for some soulless corporation, I'm not likely to find a job that I love (and that is worth my time/effort) in Kansas. Its frustrating because I love this state so much, and we WERE heading in a good direction under our old governor. However, I'll be looking for new horizons outside of Kansas in the coming months.
What a horrible thing to happen in America. :(

Everyone NEEDS to know about this.
Posted 14 years agoThis whole thing seriously makes me feel physically ill when I talk about it...but I need to spread awareness about how much of a potential loaded gun this is.
Kansas just got a new governor ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Brownback ). He's this conservative republican jackass who will completely fuck up the progress Kansas has been making the last few years.
He was only in office for three days when he submitted his budget to the state.
Among other things on his budget, he's planning on cutting government funding to Public Broadcasting (their response: "We don't despise Public Broadcasting"), cutting funding to many health and assistant programs, cutting funding from K-12 education, and completely eliminating the Kansas Arts Commission.
The Kansas Arts Council issued a statement about cutting the Arts here: http://arts.ks.gov/advocates/index.shtml
If this gets approved by the legislature, art will no longer be offered in Kansas schools or funded through the government at all. This means K-12 will have absolutely no art education in their curriculum, there wont be grants to present to artists to help them fund their work, and many small education programs related to the arts will be gone. Jobs, opportunities, and social progress will be lost, thanks to this.
HOW DOES THIS EFFECT ANYONE OUTSIDE OF KANSAS???
By passing this, Kansas will become the only state in the entire US and territories that does NOT have an arts commission. Even worse is that it will send a message to the rest of the US that the arts are unneeded, extraneous, and should have the funding eliminated from state budgets..
There's not much anyone outside of Kansas can do to stop the budget from going through the House. However, art communities all over the country NEED your support. The arts improve the quality of life dramatically. By losing art programs, we are taking huge steps backwards in social progress.
It's upsetting enough that this has to happen to Kansas. I'm spreading the word because I don't want to see it happening throughout the rest of the United States.
Be a part of your local art scene. Donate to arts programs or offer to donate services to those programs. When political agendas include cutting funds to art programs, SPEAK OUT AGAINST THEM. Don't let the arts die in your community, because it is the very thing that brings us together.

Artist Statement
Posted 14 years agoJust a little explanation for the recent flood of dog paintings...
“The Love of Dogs” is a series of acrylic paintings that explore and share dogs on a personal and intimate level, differently than the way dogs are typically viewed in society. I wanted viewers to get up close and face-to-face with the dogs as a way to truly look into the dogs' souls and understand their unique individual personalities.
These paintings were referenced from photos taken by me over the last few years. During this time, I’ve gotten to know dogs on a psychological and personal level in a way that very few people ever experience. I've known dogs that have been in and out of shelters, abused, and neglected. These dogs had been cast away and given up on, and yet, someone gave them a second chance at life and with love. These “imperfect” dogs tend to be better, kinder, and more forgiving friends than most people I meet. These dogs are the cast-aways that most of society has given up on. As an artist, I feel that it's my duty to show the potential in things that have been given up on.
The reference photos are not intended to be shown. Like the dogs, the photos are regarded by most people as being “imperfect” as fine photography (due to being out of focus, blurry, etc) and are therefore discarded. Despite being “imperfect,” the photos appealed to me due to the nature of their composition and the way the dogs interact with the viewer, and inviting him or her into an entirely different culture.
Dogs are rarely seen in fine art, and if they are, it's in the background. Showing dogs as the central focus of the artwork is almost unheard of in fine art. These paintings, evolutions of the “rejected” photos, are a way of taking the imperfect and elevating its status in an way that is welcomed by mainstream society. The dogs in these paintings are no longer just companions but rather meant to be presented as “equals.”

Posted 15 years agoMy friend
astralabortion is in a rough spot financially after being laid off from his job and just generally not being able to catch a break. He could really use a little bit of income today to help him get his phone back up and running as well as some gas in his car so he can get back to job searching. He has some amazing ACEOs like this one ( http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4540389/ ) and this one ( http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3766608/ ). He also does some awesome badges like these two here ( http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3722488/ ). They're beautiful marker pieces and COMPLETELY affordable considering the quality. You won't be disappointed!
Plus, it would make a good Christmas gift for that mate who has everything. Just sayin'! ;)

ONE WHATEVER-YOU-WANT COMMISSION!!!! Help me get what I want
Posted 15 years agoI'd really like a pro account for my flickr page ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/karoljeanthies/ ). It's only $24.95 for a year OR $47.99 for two years.
I'm willing to do an "anything goes" commission. ANY situation, fetish, etc! The only thing I *wont* do are copy-written characters (like Looney Tunes, Balto, etc).
I can paint: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3638125/
I can draw: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4624226/
I can do colored pencils: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/822505/ (sorry this isn't a recent example)
I can do a gouache relief: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3781768/
I can do something digital: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4104082/
I can make icons: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4035005/ (you would get multiple icons, obviously).
Depending on the amount will get you a bigger/more detailed piece. I will make it worth your money.
So, anyone want to help me out? Spread the word! Its a simple request and I'm not often open for commissions due to school! ESPECIALLY not for paintings!!!

ATTENTION ARTISTS!!! A GOOD CAUSE TO SUPPORT WITH YOUR ART!
Posted 15 years agoI've been following aplacetobark on twitter for over a year now. It's a budding no-kill shelter in Tennessee run basically by one woman who is also an artist. Here's the website: http://www.aplacetobark.com/
They're holding an art auction this fall/winter on ebay and they need artists to contribute art to the cause. I hope to do a bunch of small paintings, drawings, or gouache resist pieces to donate. I really hope other people here can follow suit.
Here's the link to the art auction: http://aplacetobark.blogspot.com/20.....e-to-bark.html
And link me to whatever artwork you make :) It would be awesome to see what you guys send in...

I really want your opinion (this has nothing to do with art)
Posted 15 years agoIf you found an extinct animal somewhere and you were the only one to find/know about it at the time, what would you do?
Would you take it to the nearest laboratory for testing?
Would you take blurry photos of it to get interest going in the hunt for the animal but otherwise leave it in it's habitat?
Would you take it home and keep it from being found?
Would you kill it, stuff it, and sell it to the highest bidder?
I honestly don't know what I'd do. I wouldn't want the animal poked and prodded, I'd want it to have the best life possible, but I'd want DNA and studies done on the animal for the sake of science. I wouldn't want cloning done due to the issues that the science of cloning currently has.
Side note: "The Great Auk" would make an awesome name for a guerrilla street artist.

Buy me art supplies and I'll make art for you!
Posted 15 years agoI'm not in dire straights or anything of the sort. I want to put that up front right now. I've got a job, I've got a place to live, etc.
I really love to do the gouache resist techniques** and I want to take commissions or trades for them. However, I'm almost out of gouache. The worst part is that gouache is NOT sold at Michaels or Hobby Lobby (the only two art stores in my town). I really need more but I can't get any without traveling to Kansas City (don't have time to do that) or ordering online.
What I needI need someone to order some gouache for me. Utrecht has 20 ml titanium white gouache paint for $10.89 (http://www.utrechtart.com/dsp_view_.....cfm?item=53105 ). I need titanium white, and I want the largest tube I can get. This is pretty much it. Someone ordered me Gouache :3 If anyone would still like to get in on this, the other items listed are still cool to purchase for me.
What you get in return: For getting me the tube (or several tubes???) of gouache, I'll do a 8x10 commission of the buyer's choice (will do more art if more items are purchased). Buying any other art supplies will get artwork in return that is equal to the value of the supplies being purchased for me. I will draw pretty much anything of any subject.
Sound like a deal? :D
Other opportunities: If someone gets the gouache for me pretty quickly and someone else wants in on this, there ARE some other art supplies I want that I haven't been able to justify buying for myself.

http://www.utrechtart.com/dsp_view_product.cfm?item=19141 (I've always wanted to try this paper but couldn't justify the price for an infatuation)
Why am I doing this? Why don't I raise money and buy it myself? Everyone posts commission journals all the time. Most commissioners don't know direct details on where their money goes. Honestly, the money I'd get from any commissions would go towards getting this item anyway. I'd rather you guys get the item for me and get the artwork in return. Happy all around.

Why I haven't been posting and why I've deleted something...
Posted 16 years agoI deleted a pic not too long ago that had a good number of favs and such with it. In case anyone was wondering, this is why.
My boyfriend of four and a half years broke up with me in July of this year. It was completely unexpected, out of the blue, and I couldn't understand it. I talked him him to try to understand it, or at least maintain a friendship, he continued to push me away, and I fell into a spiraling depression. I called/texted my best friend and talked to her constantly over this time.
I got an amazing job over the summer that has taught me how to be a calm assertive pack leader. Its been a life changing experience in how I see myself and how I deal with people as well as dogs. I lost 21 pounds due to the depression and working, which is good (I'm at 135 now instead of 156). I got a lot better at dealing with being single and trying to get over my ex. I was getting to a balanced place in my life by talking to my best friends.
One September evening, he tried to contact me. A few minutes later, my best friend of over a decade (the one I talked to constantly about how I wans't over the breakup) called me. She said they had hooked up. They wanted to "let me know" by calling me, but were very upset/angry with me when I wouldn't "accept their love".
Least to say it fucked me up emotionally. I lost more weight, but have since then come back up to 135ish. I fell behind on school and still have yet to get back up to speed. My grades are suffering a little this semester due to this, yet I've told none of my teachers why. I COMPLETELY purged all of my friends who sided with my ex and ex-best friend and any of my friends who think that it's okay to hook up with your best friend's ex. I've deleted their contacts, gotten rid of a lot of photos of them, and I'm slowly getting rid of all the gifts, letters, and artwork that they made for me.
The submission that I deleted was of my ex. I couldn't look at it anymore without losing it. Simple as that.
Through this whole experience, I haven't felt like drawing, period. The times I do draw, I'm so out of practice that it's utterly crappy. Nothing of the last few months is anything to show the public. I'm in a painting class this semester, so I am painting frequently. I've been making a lot of glass beads, jewelery, and I've gotten back into crochet work. One of these days, I'll post some of this stuff.
I'm going to be fine, I know this, so spare me those comments. I just feel like I have to explain myself here.
