Finally, FA's back from the hack!
Posted a year agoIt's been a rough few days, so I'll say this:
If you have ANY hard evidence to the perpetrator's identity, the ONLY response that will have any effect at all is to PM the information to the FA admins and to pass it to law enforcement. Any other method risks the hacker finding out that someone's on to them! If anyone tells you different, they directly profit from deceiving you!
That is all.

Going to NYC at the end of February!
Posted 5 years agoYou heard me right, this will be my first ever transatlantic trip! I've been planning and saving up for this for the past two years. And I know exactly what I want to do while I'm there...
I plan to pay Midtown Comics a visit (The Times Square branch is supposed to be the biggest comic shop in the US, the fact that Marvel still has its HQ in NYC certainly helps).
I also plan to go up the Empire State Building and then see the Statue of Liberty up close (I've also seen her Parisian sisters). Yes, I have tickets for both, before anyone asks.
I've made sure to do my research to avoid getting caught out. I know about the practice of tipping (it's not really a thing here in Britain, as the minimum wage is enough to not make it an unwritten requirement), and the fact that US sales taxes aren't added to the retail price, due to how many there are (In Britain, all the relevant taxes are added to the RRP, so the price on the shelf really is what you pay at the till).
I normally spend 5 days on a foreign trip, but my first-ever trip to a different continent is big enough for me to spend a whole 7 days.

How and why I see the world the way I do...
Posted 6 years agoI had a breakdown in 2012, when I just realised that nothing actually means anything in the greater scheme... because there was no such scheme to begin with. That no matter what your long term plans are, they'll all come to nothing, even if you somehow got the whole world praising you for it.
It's when I accepted that I was never going to make a difference. Not a positive one at any rate, and that I am too much of a social and neurological cripple to ever truly go far on my own. (I can't stand labels like neurodivergence and neurodiversity, they imply something positive that I find from personal experience to be simply not there.) Most forms of encouragement simply demotivate me, I see "inspirational" sayings as hollow at best, completely false at worst. I see affirmations as self-brainwashing.
It's like I have to be selfish and cynical to be sure that my personality and my thoughts are my own.
With all that in mind, here's the question: How can you change yourself if you can't find anything that you can change to or become?

Why I can't moralise...
Posted 7 years agoWhenever people start giving out "moral messages", I can't help but think "What would you say to someone who is only still alive because they violated that moral?" And I often can't help but think "What would you say to someone if their violating that moral is the only reason you're alive right now?"
That's why I can't moralise or believe in morals at all. Because every time I hear one moral, I can't help but start thinking of reasons why you might have to violate it.
The world is a lot greyer than you think it is...

The Assumption Game
Posted 8 years agoThe way the Assumption Game works is this: You post an assumption about me on this journal and I'll tell you if it's true or false.
So let's begin!
So let's begin!
Here's a difficult question for you...
Posted 8 years agoIf someone committed an act that you both knew was grossly immoral in order to save your life, would you forgive them?
And why would you forgive or not forgive them?
The basic assumptions for this question are:
There was no way they could get anyone else like the police or any other sort of outside assistance to help save you without the situation killing you.
You actually saw them commit the act in question with your own eyes and there is nothing that proves they faked the act.
As far as you were both aware at the time, there was no way that either you or whoever did the act were able to save your life in a way that was both morally acceptable and possible to use in time to prevent your death.

Went to the London Furmeet today
Posted 9 years agoI hadn't been to the furmeet in a good long while so it was nice to chat with other furs. I saw
babystar aka
toddlergirl and even
greenreaper and had some very interesting conversations. A pity I can't go to the next one because it coincides with the MCM London Comic-Con.

One thing I've noticed around London and Kent...
Posted 10 years agoOne thing I've noticed around London and Kent recently, is that the number of independent shops selling American fizzy drinks and sweets is on the way up.
It's usually dedicated sweetshops that sell them, but I've seen a comic book and game shop in Dartford selling them as well. And they're always quite popular at the MCM Expo.
Price for an imported can is about £1.25 to £1.50 depending on where you go. Before you react to the price, I have to say that the particular drinks and flavours they sell aren't made in the EU. If I wanted a normal can of Dr. Pepper, I'd go to the off-licence. If I wanted Vanilla Dr. Pepper, that's when I'd go to a specialist.
