Hang out with old and new friends, get more comfortable in suit for longer periods of time, and learn more about building so I can be more helpful.

2014 Updates!
Posted 11 years agoHello all! It's been a very long time since I've actually written a journal. Though I know this is more so my personal thoughts than anything interesting for people to read, I figured it was time to give some updates for anyone who's wondering what's been going on in my life.
It's November, and we've already had our first snow in northern Indiana, on Halloween no less. I'm in my junior year at VU, and GJ graduated from his undergraduate program. Hard to believe how different things are from a year ago. I got engaged over the summer, news which I am happy to pass on to my lovely furry friends that I so rarely get to talk to.
Fandom updates? Well, we are currently working on a white tiger commission full body, slowly but surely. So far the only thing completed is the base and eyes, as we're awaiting further payment to progress. Travis is looking super cute though, and I think this will look wonderful once he's furred. As for the tail end of this year, we plan on attending MFF 2014, and I can't wait to see all of my friends. It's been a really rough year, and this fandom really works wonders to lift my spirits.
As for any further side projects, I think I am planning on working on a Kuvira cosplay from Avatar: Legend of Korra. Not that I think I could pull it off particularly well, but I think it would be a fun venture. since I am still awaiting completion of a long overdue commission I made to finish Bexy, I have my paws tied with how much I can actually use my suit. At any rate, looking forward to seeing all of my lovelies at the con, let me know if you plan on coming!

Suiting at NWI Comic Con 2013

gjwolf and I made the last minute decision to go to NWI Comic Con, a rather small local con for us that's just getting started this year. It was in Schererville, IN and the out pour of people was absolutely amazing. With the simple spread by word of mouth, this tiny con housed in a restaurant-like venue was hopping with activity. I ran into one of my best friends from college there and our brother-in-law was there with a platoon of shadow storm troopers and other things of the like. It proved to be a fantastic time, and regardless of being a comic con, we were able to suit and get a very positive response from the masses! We even found another suiter sporting a fantastic Flash Sentry that was self made. All and all, the con was very small and a bit congested, but NWI definitely hosts a plethora of geeks and nerds itching to show off their costumes and wares! I hope to see this con grow and become something great. :)

I got to meet SO many people from FA, and made so many more friends! I finally have my first set of hand paws thanks to
fennecfur and was able to be in my fursuit for the first time! I was also able to pass out a crap ton of business cards for our up and coming company of sorts, Floppy Fox Fursuits! MFF is Upon Us! Also, some Updates :)

It's finally the week of MFF, and I finally have Bexy lookin' sharp after :gjwolf: and I finished shaving her down, adding in some more facial details and repainting a new set of earrings for her. ( Still not super happy with the colors, so I may buy new paint to do these again.) So, in the matter of a year, I have gone from being skeptical of the furry community as a whole to attending my second MFF with a partial suit that was lovingly constructed by my mate. Thank you to :fennecfur: for making my hand paws and sleeves for me, I'm very excited to see how they turned out! I also sculpted some lime green claws for my feet paws, and they look great. With the completion of our second head, we are also going to open up one spot to make a head! Feeling confident in our skills, we think we're ready to play hard ball and start building more.
I'm designing a new sona, and he's a gorgeous male lion. I sketched him out last night, but I'm not incredibly happy with how he turned out, so pictures will be coming soon. But to anyone who reads this, ideas on a name? He's designed after Tonraq of the Southern Water Tribe, so he's a muscular fellow. I'm stumped on what to name this pretty boy.
So, on that note, who all will be at MFF? I'm wanting to meet some new friends and have an even better time than last year!

So, I'm at a Loss Here...
Posted 12 years agoI know no one wants to hear me vent, but I really want to get this written down somewhere, because it just helps me think.
I'm really stressed out. Like, REALLY stressed out. I'm an Elementary Education major, and I have to take Math for Elementary Teachers. So, You'd think I'd be learning how to teach math right? Hehe... yeah. No. That would be Math Methods. This class... to put it blatantly, is Calculus level math. I'm just gonna say it... I'm not a very smart person when it comes to math. No, actually, I'm a fucking moron. Freshman year I bombed placement and they put me in basic ALGEBRA. and I struggled with that!! So now I'm in this high level class, and I'm doing my best, I'm really trying, but I'm still failing...
My professor uses a technique she calls an "inverted classroom" where we learn ALL the material on our own, on our own time at home, then come into class, and silently work on this new material in groups while she walks around the room and stares at us. She lectures the class for maybe 10 minutes on the subject, but that's all we get. We have Long homework assignments due on Mondays and Thursdays that take me like 6 hours to complete, then daily assignments and quizzes, and group work over things we've seen once that are barely described in the book. Oh and I always fail these assignments mind you, and the thing that pisses me off most is that she won't tell me WHY. She'll give me two out of four and write no explanation, then give me a half asses excuse when I ask her about it.
Can I talk about the long assignments for a second? I'm going to because this is the worst. So these assignments take me between 5 to 6 hours on average. Only two of the problems are "cooperative," meaning you can ask a friend from the class for help. If you even THINK to ask for help on the other questions, even if you don't have the slightest idea how to start it, that's an honor code violation, and could have you ultimately failed from the course on a first offence. And because of this rule, if you take a non cooperative question to her for help, she'll refuse to even HINT at any help on the problem, BECAUSE IT'S CHEATING. What does it matter?! I'll fail irregardless even if you give me a point in the right direction!!
She offers help sessions, but she will just stand up there in silence until someone asks her a question. And if said question is from an assignment and you were not allowed to receive help, DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT. You're going to get nowhere fast. She also can only teach a problem one way, and if you say you don't understand, she tries explaining it to you again the same. damn. way. I went to a two hour help session with her and learned nothing, then went and sobbed in my car for a half hour, then got help from a math major friend and finished the assignment in 10 MINUTES.
I think it's also worthwhile to point out that one, she does NOT have a teaching degree. I understand that no, you do not need one to teach at a collegiate level. But she's teaching future EDUCATORS, and has never been in an elementary classroom before. Why? Why is this a good idea? It's no wonder her students are failing, she can't HELP THEM!
Oh and on one final note, on several occasions, she has posted her assignments at 8:00 and even 10:30 at night, when they should be posted by NOON, and are due the next day.When she did this and no one did the assignment? We still all got a 0, even though no one knew it was posted. She acts like this class needs to be our one and only focus, but I work 20-30 hours a week, and I have 5 other classes that are suffering because of her!! The head of the Education department got together with the board and filed like 20 complaints from students and got her in trouble for all this crap she's been pulling, but it didn't seem to do any good. I won't be satisfied until she's gone forever.
So, this is what my life has been for the past two months, and I've still got another semester of this. I know I should just suck it up and deal with it. After all, this isn't my first go around with college, and I should be used to shitty professors who only care about a paycheck,, but I just can't bring myself to understand how someone can hate teaching so much and see us as nothing more than income. *sigh* Well, I suppose that's all for now... sorry about that, I love you all.

So I Really Don't Understand The Layout of FA
Posted 12 years agoTrying to make the transition from Deviant Art over to here has been nice, but the mechanics of this site are still kinda hard to navigate. The people here are much nicer than the people on DA, that's for sure. But I accidently wrote a reply to a comment on a journal that I didn't mean to that sounded shity, when it was meant to be a reply to mine! So I don't know what happened, because I hit reply -_-; So now I feel like an ass, and I have no idea what I what I did. *sigh*
FURSUIT HEAD FINALLY DONE!
Posted 12 years agoAfter 3 weeks, we've completed Bexy's head! It took a lot of patience, but I'm very happy with how it turned out! Thank you so much gjwolf for making such a beautiful head for me! Pictures will be up shortly. With this out of the way, we're thinking about opening a commission for a head soon. :) I love you woof, thank you!

Gjwolf and I have sewn together almost all of the pieces and laid them on the base, the ears seem to be posing a problem since they'll be three dimensional (or more so than usual?) Attaching and shaving should only take another week in between work. ^^ Super excited to be finished so we can start thinking about working on heads for other people! I've also commissioned fennecfur to make my hand paws and sleeves for me. All and all, very happy with how this is going!
