Backyard Brawls
Posted 12 years agoIt has been 11 years since I wrote Backyard Brawls. I fully don't expect anyone that reads this to remember or ever have known about it. It was an old game that I made because I wanted to make a statement about the stupidity that I was hearing from the "R" party where they were saying guns and violence was "America" but would use sex and love as reasons to hate on "liberals". It struck me as easily boiled down to Violence good and sex bad.I wanted to make something good out of something bad. I thought, "who knows maybe someone will like it and I will get to make more of them."
The game was based in a yiffing ring and had two players playing/controlling two "fighters" in a battle till your opponent was knocked out. There were two ways of doing this - beat them up or make them Orgasm. The game had been based on a combination of Wrestling (Pro-Wrasln), martial arts and sex antics. Each "fighter" was a unique personality and they had intertwined back stories and moves. The players also could make up additional moves on the spot as part of the game. The backgrounds were meant to make the making up of moves and smack talk between players fun. Thus the game had strategy, luck and a bit of role-playing.
The idea was if I could sell enough of my "project" then I could make more games like that easily enough. The funny thing was it was not really likely to happen. It was stupid that I had even tried. But I did. I attempted to sell some copies of the game and sold a few of them. And in the end I did not make enough to cover the cost of the commissioned artist that did art for the game.
Busted.
I had failed to make enough to even cover expenses. And I realized that this too was a dead end in Furry fandom. Maybe others could do it but I was not going to get to go far if I was losing money on every project. I was never wealthy and this was not a plan to improve my economic position.
That is not to say no one ever noticed it. Something Awful saw parts of the game on my webpage at the time and ignored what the game was protesting and was declaiging it a game about pedifilia and furres...ohhh ick. (so much for reading comprehension). But there have been a couple of furs that liked the idea of Furry Fighting and Sex. But neither the publicity that either group made ever made it so that I made any money from it
So now 11 years later, I can only look back on it and wonder what the heck I was thinking to have even tried it. At least someone in my shouts remembered it. And one of the Characters, Lydia the Lioness, I was able to get in a Yiffy Card Game. So they are not totally gone just mostly not remembered.
Here is the list of them:
Sharp - Fox - Pretty Boy - Gay
Kole - Fox - Potopatzi - Bi
Gillian - Stallion - Magician - Gay
Mia - Female Seal - Preacher - Bi
Missy - Female Jaguaronai - Texas Girl - Lesbian
Talon - Male Tiger - Pompous Jerk - Straight
Tily - Female Ferret - Contortionist - Bi
Loche - Male Squirrel - Mensa Nerd - Straight
Winslow - Male Otter - Super Fan - Bi
Harold - Deer Buck - "Gothic" Prince - Gay
Nakio - Female Gazelle - Innocent Feminist - Straight
Kelly - Female Tabby - Amazon - Lesbian
Pyra - Female Phoenix - Love Struck Girl - Straight
Justin - Male Eagle - Patriotic US Guy - Straight
Natasha - Female Lynx - Schoolgirl - Straight
Jill - Female Rabbit - Quiet Psycho - Straight
Micar - Male Raccoon - Nice Guy - bi
Steel - Male Raccoon - Richboy Suffer - Straight
Maximilian - Male lion - Stalker - Straight
Lydia - Lioness - Huntress - Bi
Kia - Vixen - Cheerleader - Bi
Flora - Female Skunk - Southern Bell - Bi
Anton - Male Panther - Football Jock - Straight
Serinity - Female Ferric - Country Girl - Bi
There they are some quick notes for no reason:
* Anton is a slight alteration on one of my Fursonas and the two girlfriends were slight alterations characters that I had done for my first web page.
*Lydia (Lydia Sekmet) is the most drawn of the lot and she was first drawn and developed as the heroine of a story that goes back to when I first found the fandom. She was in the ad for Furoticon.
*The second edition was going to be a pack of two storylines with characters - Wolf Pack Invasion and the Feline Returns. Wolf Pack was to bring in a couple of bears, two panda, lots of dogs, wolves, huskies, a Folf and a greater focus on Tag teams. The story line is that the canines as the New Canine Order (NCO) come in and take over (ala NWO in the 1990's) and Maximilian and Anton both "disappear" as they were the first victims of the NWO styled take over. The Feline Returns, introduces a new lion and lioness, cheetah, tigress and some other characters with rules for props and more special matches. The story line with these characters is when the new lion, Arthur, comes in and leads the original furs back so that they can fight back against the NCO. He takes the place of Anton with Flora and Kia until Lydia takes him and her younger sister and finally makes a "pride of her own".

Some advice about making a good New Years Resolution`
Posted 13 years agoIt is that time of year when we do a yearly party and make a promise that most of us are destined to fail at. It is the New Years Resolution. Well I am here to in a very few words show you that you don't have to fail at it. After all what is the point of having an old lion around ifthey don't roar good expeience into your ear.
The key to a good new Years resoultion is that you have to follow the rules.I can hear you saying it already - What rules no one toldme about any rules. Well that is the problem you got half the message. Okay well here are the rules. Take notes.
1) Don't declare your New Years resolution on New Years eve and try to start New Years day.
The reason for this is hat you are not having two normal days. You want a New years Resolution to last right. At least a year. Well don't start on a day when you are likely going to be parting, drinking with friends or just in general not caring about such things. Start on the day after. GO ahead an think abut it if you want but it is not official till the 2nd.
2) Be practical
If you make a resolution that you will make so much money that you can buy downtown New York city, this year and your last name is not Gates, Trump or Cardassian, then it ain't going to happen. Give yourself a fighting chance. Why not just start off with, I will make a few dollars more this year by acing my salary bonus reviews. That second one is not only possible but it gives you a way to attain your goal. Don't promise to become a runway model when you are female 50 lbs over weight. It is better to just say that you will try to loose a pound or two a month or you will run a lot more often till you get tired.
3) Write it down in a place where you and (if possible) others will see it in really big letters and every day.
Every day you see it and others will to. Remembering what you promised you will do is really important. It sets you up with an understanding that it matters and that others will see it too. There is a certain value in it being visible , tactile and known that you are going this.
4. Give yourself permission to start again.
This is most important with goals that are ongoing. So you promised that you would stop smoking. You made it a week and now you have the coffin nails in your hands again. You blew it. We all know it and saw it. Take a deep breath and remember... you said you would give it up by the end of the year. Try again. Try to make the time between the mistakes much longer. If you fail again - try it again. Remember you don't learn to ride a bike by stopping after you skin your knee the first time. You get back on and try it again. Your a good person. I would give you my permission to never give up and keep trying. Give yourself that same permission.
5. Cheat in to win.
NO I am not saying just claim victory or say make a really low bar goal. You can already o that if you want and would not have read this far down if you wanted to do that. Nope. Use resources to attain your goal. Talk to people that are doing it. Use books and journals and heck if you have a Android or iDevice then.. there is an app for it. Get support. Your goal is to achieve your goal, not to do it all alone. So if you think that getting help is cheating... Cheat often and cheat to succeed. (yeah I am looking at all you artist out there that think "my art sucks" get a book talk to a friend in other artists and keep going. If you are a writer like me ... iPads have writing aps on them you know. Write anything. But crank out those words per day)
If you follow these 5 rules then there is a really good chance that you will be successful in your New Years Resolution. Now have a safe and Happy New Years.
(Or is that happy Nude Dears... I always get that mixed up :D )

Trapped in the Closet is going down
Posted 13 years agoI know this is maybe of only passing interest save to persons like me but R.Kelly finally seems to be ready to add a bit more to his crazy hip-hopera "Trapped in the Closet" It is of some funny importance to me as it marks a real passing of time for me. Seems like I first saw the "Trapped in the Closet" yesterday. Of course, it has been a long time since the last installment.
Time is relative and this is a funny as all get out series. It is due to continue on IFC.com after Thanksgiving. It is completely not-family friendly soap-opera stuff with some of everything. I you have not seen it, look it up on Youtube. It is as funny crazy as it is sad and tragic. Pass that on to anyone that is an oldskool hiphop person.

Furry Script Frenzy!
Posted 13 years agoI have well just done a script before in Script frenzy and I found nothing fun about it. The issue is that I suck at scripts. When I write a comic script then it is a two step process. Write the story. Then re-write it as a script.
Ugggg !!!!
That is I have to write the thing do multiple revisions then write it as a script and then multiple revisions. Just 4 pages can take as many as 16 days! That is completely unacceptable.
Well no more. Script Frenzy is coming up soon and my mission will be to make a script with no story version first. Just Script!
I have 36 days to decide if it should be a script for stage or for comic but it will be a single project. This time I will make it happen.
Oh you say what does this have to do with furry. The main characters will be a lion male (Duke DeClaw) and a cheetah female (Jessie Ann Speed) and well some other species or two.. okay likely a wolf or vixen they seem to be ..expected. SO that way it will be furry though I wil break the biological bond thing for certain.
Well I know that most no one really cares about furry authors but well I will make is furry script some how. Though if you were to do it on stage then you would need actors off stage to make the voices and then fursuiters on stage to act it out. That would be fun to see.
Wonder why no one has done that.... or have they.

Two important notes for your Security
Posted 14 years agoI am sorry that I keep forgetting to note things here. I don't know if it is a good deal that I have not seen anything important to talk about or not. There are two important things to do to keep your browsing safe.
First, Microsoft did not fix it's rarely used MHTML. If you are using a microsoft operating system to see this (and that is at least 90% of you) then you are affected. No mater how old the system. You are targeted. It is being used on the web to get info from your system and do well ... all kinds of things. Mirocsoft has admitted the issue as it relates to information and has issued a notice (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2501696). I can't see how this cant be used to install back doors but just that someone can get your credit card info is enough to me. All that is needed is for you to go to the wrong webpage and you are compromised. This happens because of something I think very few are using but is on by default - MHTML. (Lion roars at the Microsoft engineers - come on guys you are the big target.. focus!) The fix is a registry fix stops the format from being used. You just download the file from this link - go.microsoft.com?linkid=9760419 Then agree and it will stop that web format from being used. (Microsoft did not fit this so I am putting out the warning now.)
Second, it is that time of year to update all your browsers. Chrome will autoupdate so no problem but all the others, check for a update. Also, update iTunes as well. The reason I say this at this time of year is that once a year hackers get together to break the browswers. But they do it in public. So all the bad guys see how to break the browser; you are using right now , if you are not keeping it updated. So update your browser. But you ask why update iTunes. This old dog music player/podcatcher is using part of a webkit for when it goes to Apple's webpage. So update it today. (For the record, I use it too but like Songbird much better. It tells you when the bands in your library are coming to town. )
That is all for now. Happy browsing.

Groups Power
Posted 15 years agoAs you move around the world that is FA, one sees about two things. The first and foremost is the art. Honestly I don't know that many more then a hand full even read the captions on the art but the art that is seen. If you are like me then once you see some art that is good then you go to that artists's place on FA and look for more. On that one piece of art, you may see some of those icons for the artist or the commissioner. Or if you look at the artist's general info page you will see under their name the Profile info and some tiny little pictures. These Icons (or stamps) are most often the artist saying I have a mate(s) and leave me alone! And then there are the ones that show that they are popular with many friends. All these you have seen and you understand. But if you look at a few others you will see something else. You can even see it in my profile. Go ahead and look at it and come back.....
*whistles*
Did you see it? Those little icons are group memberships. Icons that show what they like, causes they support and other information that tells you about them. These are the Group Icons. They are just as easy to make and use as the individual icons and while they do not show that you are loved or that you have friends, they show that you have more to you then just a name. They link you to other furs that like what you do and celebrate that fact. Now this is not news to most of you but it is something that I want to bring a highlight to. This is a shock to many but ... furs are not all sex and no brains. We do have other interests.
Many people join groups by finding them though artists and friends that have found them. The system for making groups in FA is not really the most transparent, but joining them is. just go to the group and Watch them then in your profile use the "icon+groupname: tag to link it into your profile. but there is one group that you can look though to see what groups you may want to be part of the "FA-groups" group
FA-groups. (http://www.furaffinity.net/user/fa-.....plz=1292149302) You can find groups many ways though them and you can find many that you may be a part of or want to be a part of.
So say you are s single straight fur (like me). There are groups for Streightfurs (2 of them) and single furs (2 of those
straightfurs
Straight_Furries ). Say that you are a french fur not only is there a group that is Frenchfurs
frenchfurs but also one that is a bit better named Francofurs
FrancoFur. Say that you are not a judgmental kind of person and want everyone to get along (more or less), then Tolerant-furs
Tolerant-Furs is the huge group for you. And even though they are attacked a lot by some intolerant furs, there are even groups for furs that are religious like Muslimfurs
muslim_furs and fpc
FPC (Furry Prayer Chain - Christians) Of course ther are groups for those with alternative family arrangements like Polyamorous
Polyamorous (furs that can love more then one) and those that are out to make a point like "no_drama"
no_drama (for furs that are fed up with 'drama' n furry. Yes, there are groups for sexual things as well but lets me be clear, there are many groups out in the FA with interests you can tell your momma/daddy about over the holidays.
This is something that everyone can do. Something that will make your FA life a bit more fun and make the community stronger. This is important and if you are reading this find one or more interest group and join it. Put it in your profile. You don't have to be an artist. Or a writer/bloger. You don't have to make a song about it. You just have to join a group and find others that are like you and celebrate that as part of being you and what you are.

Go GO NaNoWriMo ....ohhh
Posted 15 years ago(First thank you to all those that listened last time. I am surprised and humbled that you took the time to read me. Thanks. )
It is that time of year again. It is getting cooler. Computers are warming up as word processors are slowly being updated. And everywhere the sound of knuckles cracking is heard. It is that time when the thoughts of storytellers pro and not turn to the single most important event of the year.
NaNoWriMo is coming.
November is National Novel Writing Month. It is celebrated by thousands of authors by writing novels. Now you don't have to be in the US, any nation will do. If you have ever heard that everyone has a novel in them, you are right. And in a lot of ways that is what this exercise is about.
All you have to do to have a Qualified novel is write 50,000 words in 30 or less days. Some of you have figured out that this is not a novel but more a novella. Still it qualifies as a novel. it does not have to be good. it does not have to be great. It really does not have to be grammatically correct. It just has to be yours.
You can write about just about anything. Fiction or none fiction. it can be erotic or it can be a children's book with a years worth of bed time stories in it for parents to read their kids. Any top it is fine.
What are the rewards? You will have written a book. Often you will become a better writer and RPer for the experience. Sometimes you can have it published for fun but mostly it is to have a book that you wrote.
If you want to try it ...then try it. Just trying to do it sometimes will teach you things about your skills and yourself.
You don't need me to tell you more but I will give you some advice (As if anyone would ever ask me.)
Go to the Website for the NaNoWriMo - http://www.nanowrimo.org and sign up. (There are writing parties and writing buddies and lost of resources here. )
Get yWriter 5 (http://www.spacejock.com/yWriter5.html)- You can use any Word processor but this one really works well for NaNoWriMo and included functions to help you write, keep your novel secure and keep things organized. Not to mention it is FREE!!!!!
Come up with some topic to write about. And think about as many ways you can think to talk about it. You don't have to correct anything as you write. You can just write the story you want to write. You don;t even have to spell check! Think that Star Wars Episode one sucked and you have 10,000 complaints about Jar jar..then do it. Want to write a novel that is about what happens when a Wolf bitch and a vixen decide to take on the males that keep trying to hump them.. go for it. Want to write about the conversations that you have had with your spirit guide over your time together. Power to you. The possibilities are endless.
Lastly if you are doing it, let others that like what you do.. know you are doing it. If you are a Furry Writer put it in your Journal or post that here. Writing is lonely sometimes but easier when you know others are doing the same thing.
So there is no cost to any of this. You can have fun and at the end of the year you can complete a novel.. for free.
Brother and sister furs sing with me..(Sing to the tune of Go GO Godzilla)
Ohhh No.Novels got ta flow .. GO GO NaNoWriMo...OOOo
You can have fun and at the end of the year you can complete a novel.. for free.

Female Furs are people too...well furry people
Posted 15 years agoI have just about had it with the three big issues around females and the fandom. I am certain that you have heard about all of them and in some ways they are all related.
- Myth : There are no female furries just some artists and guys but no real females
- Myth : We don't need no females around here
- Myth : I am a female furry but I keep my real life separate but you should believe I am a girl.
This is not too complicated so please follow along.
Yes there are Female furries!
Females like furry characters. They like stuffed animals. They like comedy. They like guys (well most do). So of course there are female furs. And there would be more of them if the fandom had not had an influx of those that demand sex as part of fur and try to only support sex in furry. And, (this is a big secret so put your face next to the screen) FEMALES LIKE SEX, TOO! They just don't want every single picture to be sex. Every story being about using them as sexual toys and wh0res. They are people. Try making more art that is basically romantic and kind and loving. Ladies do like that hardcore stuff (Well some of them do) but a balanced plate of emotions is best for everyone.
I have also noticed on Secondlife a disturbing trend. It was bad enough that so many furs have decided (in stupidity) that straight people can be recruited to be BI/.gay (Yeah great way to try to convert the tolerant to homophobic guys) but also there are more then a few that have decided that female furs should be made to feel unwelcome and "we" don't need them. "We" do need them. Even if you are not a straight guy (or a bi/lesbian girl) looking for a mate or lover, we need them to be at home with us. We all have females we know - sisters, mothers, friends even daughters. We want them to be free to do and go where they like. Moreover one of the defining traits that we have and that holds us together is our acceptance of each other. If we don't say something and don't challenge these furs they we accept intolerance and hate based on what one is born as. I would not accept it against my gay bros and lesbian sisters... so why do you think that I would accept it against straight females. Even more importantly - will you?
Lastly, this is for the female furry. No unless you post your picture or talk to someone on Skype we do not believe you are female. This is not a character assassination. It is not a way to try to get your address to stalk you. What you just have to do is accept that because the RPG females (aka fakefems) out number your gender, no one will believe you are a a female. So expect to be treated as almost a guy. Yes that will not be really like you are used to being treated. Unless you are a well known artist, no one knows that you are a real female but you. If you care, go on Skype make a id just for verification and if anyone you care to make sure they know you really are a girl (for example, you are feeling close to them as a lover or "just a friend") then you have them call you on skype and you let them hear your voice. They can't find you as Skype will keep your IP effectively hidden from all but the very most talented and effective hackers (there are VERY VERY few of these on the net). And then they will talk to you more like a girl. I don't know if that is what you like but unless you like male humor it is a thought.
My main point to you ladies is that we want you here. We want you to bring your friends and be happy with the rest of us. if you bring enough of your girlfriends around then thing may change. And I want things to change for the better.

Professonal Whiners!
Posted 15 years agoLook at this Journal then come back here for here if you want to see me rip this person a new one :
http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/1436298/
Now if you are here you know what you came back for. You knew and so here it is - one lion rant.
I HATE PROFESSIONAL WHINERS
Look I am a writer and a thinker and you know how much I make at those things. Nothing. Not a thing. I have worked with millionaire game makers, professional artists, Apple and Microsoft. I have worked with all of them and you know what. They to the last would shake there collective (and in some cases figurative) head at this entire thing.
I have been a big supporter of artists in this community. Not in my beloved Sci-fi Communities or in Anime or in comics. I have done a bit in those others to be sure but I have time and again come back here to support artists and try to make a difference. I like to think that after a commission with me the artist is happy and fulfilled and has a chance to see something in their art that they have not before. I like my commissions to be a chance to grow not just have made wank material. And I have paid money. And it is artists that have this attitude that make me want to stop!
First, about the person that he is talking about, I do not like that attitude they have either. Just cause I can write does not mean that I must make a story for you. Same thing with artists and singers and chiefs and everyone else that can do things. Talent is shared because you want to do it. It is a gift and not a responsibility on the possessor to give to others. I also hate those that try to use the 'sympathy card' to try to get something for nothing. Look the fact is if you are broke then you are and it hurts to not be able to have everything you want. I understand that. It means that you have to keep your priorities straight. Save your money and do what you need to do to make your RL better. This community is a side-interest to your life. if you can't draw what you want to see things but you have no cash - then learn to draw. If you want a piece of artwork that is too expensive then find something else to occupy your time or even better find a way to improve your position so that next time you can get what you like. it is called "human growth" and I can't recommend it enough.
That said, he is just as bad.
First rule of art back, dating to the stone ages, NEVER INSULT YOUR POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS AND AUDIENCE. If you do then they may never buy anything from you once they have money. Also it devalues your artwork because less people will want it.
Second , Art is NEVER worth the time, materials and effort put into it. The value of artwork is the value that others put on it. A picture of your late Parents on the side of the house may have cost you paint but is it really worth that cost to your neighbors. How about your siblings? How about to your child when they grow up in a few years to see the face of the persons they never have met but have heard about from you for their entire life. But to your Neighborhood Planning committee it is just worth the cost of the paint that they want you to cover up the graffiti with. in many ways that is the very point of art.
Next, being poor is NOT A BAD THING. It is just something that people are. This post gave me the feeling that this person thinks that good people have money. That is not the way it goes. There is not chip in greenbacks that makes them 'think', "oh that person over there is a good person I should move over to him/her and out of the pocket of this not so good person." Get real. Stop believing the wealth lies.
If someone says that the price is too high then the artist can say, "I do want some rarity in my commissions. I like my free time." Or "This is what I like my art to go for but if you like some free samples my gallery is still up."
Professional. Solves the issue. Maintains respect.
Whether he is talking about himself or another, he has gained my ire. To answer his bullet points.
1) Since that person (the one unable to pay) cares that they are unable to pay, they care. Thus it is clear that there is a body that cares. (or did you mean "No one else cares".... which remains to be seen)
2) Artwork is like writing. It is worth what at least one person will pay for it. it does not mater if it is made in 10 minutes or an hour or a year. Art is not a widget and it has nothing to do with "Do you want some fries with that" Think I am joking Look up "Stick Vixen" (or you can follow this link from the artists own hand http://www.furnation.com/eric_schwa.....AC2Kreport.htm)
3) If they charged less then they can make the case that they would do less! So no they will not do a oil piece for the same price as a marker or they may only let the commissioner gets to have less say. All are options. But it is ALWAYS a negotiation DiVinchi had to do it. All the great masters had to do business and deal with patrons. So do furry artists ... deal with it.
4) Being poor does not make you a looser. I could be that you just had a Kid or had to pay for your mom to have the roof repaired or be in the worst world wide recession since the great depression. Being poor means one and only one thing .. you don't have much money! PERIOD. It is in the dictionary - read it.
5) Not everyone wants more money. There are those that are wealthy and happy with no more and no less. There are those that have enough to make it and are happy with life. There are priests and nuns that give up all worldly cares for faith. There are those that have reached a place where they have other concerns in life and pursue them once the basics are taken care of.
6) NO.
Now I can put down my stupid rant cap. and be happy. (Thank goodness no one reads these things. )

Lydia Sekmet and Furoticon
Posted 15 years agoAnother commission that was done for me by Cloud Kitty was actually for a card game character. The character was Lydia the lioness from my Furry game Backyard Brawls. It was published back in 2002. But I wanted to have her show up once more. She was actually not the most popular character but she was in the top two from the feedback I got.
She is the lioness that you see in the ad for Furoticon.
The most funny part is that, I don't even have a deck of the game.

Repost: ISv4 to ISv6 - The Net is falling Redux
Posted 15 years ago*Re posted with corrections*
Some furs and folk may have read this but the net is running out of IP addresses. Some of you may wonder what that matters. Basically, it is not so bad. There are issues but generally not a huge one.
It is all based on how computers talk. Computers don't go by names like you and I. They id each other by numbers. They have many numbers they can go by but the two that I want to talk about here are Static numbers (like a MAC address )and the dynamic numbers (like the IP address).
Lets look at your MAC address. Your computer's Mac Address says who made your computer and which number and often type of computer it is. This is how items like your Ipod knows when it is connected to the computer it usually is attached to or not. This number never changes. and technically you can never out of them because the number of numbers available is so high. (That is important) This also does not change. They are unique. This number is your computers name and even your router knows it by that number. (Again very useful) But the second number is the interesting one that links to your computer the dynamic IP address.
Your computer (or network if you have one) is attached to the internet by a dynamic numbers called an IP. It says where your computer is on the net and in the world (in general). It is given to you by your ISP. When you go to a places on the web that place is a computer with an ip address as well. The problem is that there are a lot of computers in the world. And so many that we are running out of numbers for them. And when you run out numbers then you can't add any more. Seem like no big deal.
Well it is a bit of an issue. These numbers are dynamic and that means they change based on who is on the web and time. What many of you don't know if that your address changes. You loose it every so often and get a new one. So think about it like a game of music but instead of taking a chair away every so often, a new person comes in to the game looking for a number chair. Each computer modem (That is what connects you to the web) is like a player and the ip address is the Chair. Well what happens when we have one more player then chair. That player can't get on. And what happens if more players come and there are still no more chairs? You can't get a chair. Even if you had a chair yesterday if you don't get one today you have no chair. No chair no net. This stack of chairs is called IPv4.
IPs running out is nothing new. Computer Scientists have known of the problem for a while. Then they came up with more chairs in a new stack called IPv6. This stack gives us a lot more numbers to use.
How many? Enough so that everyone can have a billion no problem. The stack of numbers in IPv6 is actually bigger then the number of stars in this galaxy.
That is what the switch over from IPv4 to the IPv6 is all about. If you have Apple Snow leopard or Windows Vista or 7 you are covered. if you are still using XP there is a free upgrade. If you are on Ubuntu you have been covered for years. The only thing left to do is to have a modem that either can used with IPv6 or can run software for it when your ISP to turns it on.
That is all that is going on. Even if you don't have to do nearly as much as for the Y2K issue. But now at least the tech Guys are talking about.
The main reason for reposing this was to get the countdown site address correct. The proper countdown address for the switch is this one :

Furry Naming Project (Furry defintions Project)
Posted 15 years agoSome times you are in a community so long that you don't see the problems that have developed. I don't know that it is always the case for everyone but I think it must have happened to me. It happened cause furry authors (me included) have been wrong!
The problem is one of language. We in America are blessed with many good languages. he Primary one that we use is English. But we also have Spanish, French and Japanese and Chinese all spoken in some areas and numbers. But I hope I am forgiven if I keep trying my hand primarily at English. That is the language I speak and write in best. (Though Editorial and grammar types may disagree with any claim i make to using the language properly.) The problem is that of how we define things.
If I say that I am a lion. I am have failed to use the language properly.
In the community there is a part of that sentence that is presumed and thus failed the most important part of language - clarity. I clearly am not a lion. I am not stupid. I am typing this journal and an not laying around waiting to get the drop on some other animal so I can use my (non-existent) claws to kill and eat them in a bloody display of unrestrained hunger.
The part that is missing is the word "Furry". Now that may not actually be enough really. If you think about it furry is a meta so it needs more definition but that is the very least that I should have added to that sentence to make it make sense, And this is the failure that most authors do. Now mind you artists and fans all do the same thing so we have a fuzzy understanding of the statement but we don't need to do that. We can make sense so that others can understand.
It makes it clear to the reader that you are talking about a type of furry and not an animal. We all understand that if it is in context of a larger body of information that you don't have to say much to game complete metal imagery of the entities involved. If it is a Lion King Story then the lions and everyone else will have those forms. If you say do a StarFox fan fiction then say a fox or falcon, then you understand the size and most details of the persons involved. But if it is a random short story then you say a poodle, then what does the person really know about them. Maybe that is fine if you don't care but I personally like my readers to understand what I have in mind and what to expect I am saying about when I say that the Poodle kicked at the tree. That they looked like as they deliver the motion. What position are they in if say the next sentence has a fish hitting them. with a fin. Just how does that work.
So how do we do that. We do it the way the revolutionary war Americans did in the civil war period. We make a dictionary of terms and then hold ourselves to that standard. it is not so hard to think about. And we have the tools to get it done. Everything form basic terms and Wikis to make it all work out right.
I wonder if anyone would want it.

Backyard Brawlers (Adult Furry Role play combay game)
Posted 15 years agoUndoubtedly you have seen and will see the art work of John Harrington in my gallery. He does not seem to be making much furry art publically any more but long ago he helped me with a project. The game only sold 9 copies and proved to me that I was never going to make any money writing in this community. Or at least not writing games of this kind.
Backyard Brawls was a game born of a personal protest against well most everything the Republican party and those on the religious right believed in. In particular their focus on attacking and hating on sexual issues and giving a pass on violence ones. Think about it. They are pro-guns and any other violent item but anti-sex. It drove me crazy. So I made a game that made them equal. The game had some dice mechanics and a person could take the role of one of the "Students of the Yamamoto Ichi Furry Finishing School" and do battle. The game was a mash up between adult (sexual) role playing and a fighting/wrestling role playing game. The way you won was by knocking out you opponent or making them orgasm. The very fact that the fighters are shown in very general audience ways was also important. Not only in game mechanics but also to show that revealing clothing or nudity did nothing to change the inherent potential for sexuality in a person or situation.
Nice thoughts right? No one got it. Hell the people on Something Awful managed not only not to get it but then cut us individual phases to misrepresent what I was saying. Good thing they didn't say it to my face as any writer can tell you how little I liked being misquoted. Later i came to the conclusion that though some persons liked my writing it was fairly useless to continue. I am back to writing for me and letting only me see most of the time.

Furry Anatomy Project
Posted 15 years agoAs you may have noted I spend most of my entries here with things that I have done or wanted to do and just couldn't cause I did nto have money to pay for it and not nearly enough friends (Drawing, writing or just period) to get them done. I had a lot of projects and that is for furry on the net as well as furry on Sl. There are many projects that I had wanted to do but of all of them the Furry Anatomy Project is one of the oldest ones and one that I missed not having done the most.
The FAP (Yeah the acronym is part of why I never did it) was not just about getting Anatomy of the characters visually correct but a good understanding of the possible biology of furry characters in various forms for writing as well. The visual elements would have shown how different they look in different styles of art as well as different .. well everything. Everything kept in simple and if the person wanted they could go as deep as they were able.
I still want to do it but unless I get a million dollars I can't do it. I have the info on how to do it on one of my hard drives somewhere but like this Journal..only I think it would be great. It would be useful and valuable but well I had the idea years back. There have been many attempts since then. Who knows maybe some else can do it.

A'yana (AKA Illyana) The Tomboy Next door
Posted 15 years agoOf all may charcters A'yana is one of the oldest and simpliest for me. But I have not used her or had her done nearly as much as I would have liked. In the group of my characters she was the 3rd that I had made which was primary for writing. I would have used her more but for that Zigzag. She was born back before I actually found furry. And right after Alpha Wolf and Beta Vixen. It is odd in that I had made the first four characters that I would use in furry as elements of the Gargoyles fandom. I never used them there but they came about when I was noticing the biological construction of the characters. Then it was simple to make characters like to Gyph and Talon using other archetypes. I put them to the side after making them only to "re-invvent" a couple years later when I found the Fury fandom groups. As I said before, I started Phoenix then dragon then Winged wolf. She was along that same line. Mixing two characters to make an interesting hybrid. Of all my skunk girls that I came up with she always was the one no one liked much. Still it the case today.
--- Baseline Story
She is the eldest of four sisters. By species, they are 2 tiger-skunks, one vixen skunk and the last born was a full-blooded skunk. She has no mother as her mother died some undisclosed time after giving birth to the youngest. They do not have any other relatives that would claim them (as they are hybrids no surprise there) and she has made her mind up that she would make sure they made it though.
She is a tomboy and an anomaly. She loves sci-fi and sports and is (according to her ) just an average girl. Of all her sisters, she is the one always worrying about her weight. She has no need to worry about it but she still thinks she is fat.
Her other trait is that she is exceedingly lucky. It is not known how she took care of her little sisters but she never does have to quit school and work.
As an adult, she is beautiful but really tries not to know it. She has her own business (UAV development) and has many happy employees. She is a naval aviator in her world and has been to war. At one point being shot down and sustaining wounds that would separate her from the service.

Furry Origins - The Origin of the liger
Posted 15 years agoI think a lot of folks that know me as Onyxliger have not heard why I choose the genesis of the character. Prior to this point I had used a Phoenix, a winged wolf and a dragon. Each had a reason for their being but the Panther Liger has been around along time and it seems that of all my 'anthro-types" is the one that has usually caught the most attention and still remains the most striking of my characters.
I think the thing that most catches everyone is that it is a liger. The reason he is a liger is linked to it's date of origin about April 2002, In January of that year my "step"father dyed. It was my understanding that he was born in the Chinese year of the tiger and in the western zodiac a Leo. So that is why he was a liger. At first I had considered making him a saber-tooth liger but after considering how big that would make him I dropped that part. Besides he was going to have something better.
He was a panther. Panther means that the cat is a melanin enhanced cat. There is NO Panther species. Leopards and Jaguars are common panther species. The fur color is meant to be from two sources though my mom does not know they relate to her. Not only has she always been a non-card carrying member of the Black Panther party (She was a feminist so becoming a member was out) but she always said that I always liked wearing things with black cats on them. So as a tip to my mom, Onyx was .. a panther,
Lastly, there is his hair. Yes I like red heads but that is not why he has red hair. it goes back to the Phoenix and the fact that this was a symbol of rebirth. Maybe I thought it was appropriate cause both parents wer Christians. Maybe it was cause of the many things I had come though in life. I don;t know but it was part of it. I used the hair style to make sure that it was not another Western European look alike character.
There is more to him but well the story of the alterations he suffered will have to wait. And the way he got his Latex Tree familiar is likewise another post for here.
Stay tuned.
(Honestly I don't think many people look at Journals. But you can prove me wrong. Just give the origin of your fursona. )

Ebon / Ebonhawk / Ebonfire?
Posted 16 years agoOkay. No one ever really asked but there was a reason I changed my name. I have never really liked my "furry name". I know it sounds odd till you know that I took the name not out of a feeling that it would be fun or adventurous but to make sure that those on my job that were on the net would not find what I was doing off the clock.
I had been doing that since I first came on line and continued to look for things that others may think were not so ... cool. Like comic books and Gothic info and anime. Yup my first name was Ebonhawk and it was nothing to do with furry. It was another way of saying "Crow" or "Raven". I could not use those names for a bit obvious reasons. In Gothic community of the time I quickly found a ton of Ravens and Crow boys. All so self-consciously dark and brooding. And in comics, there was a very popular character named Raven as well. She was dark and fun but I didn't want to deal with that confusion. So a little bit of Ill iteration was needed. And I became Ebonhawk. I had other 'names' that that was the main one till I got tired of something that happened.
There were three other writers named "Ebonhawk".One was a very nice girl. the other a nice guy. Both were embedded in other subcultures in anime and slash fiction. For a while, I was being found by their fans and the few that cared to find me would find them instead. Something had to be done.
I could have done the 'macho' alpha male thing and told them I had the name first and scram. But that just was not me. It was classier for me to change my name. I took Onyxliger for a while but about 5 years ago I just changed the name to Ebonfire on all my new works. Not that most of them ever see the light of day but that was the deal.
An odd thing is that you sometimes can tell how has known me a long time by the name they use to refer to me. The ones that know me the longest just call me Ebon (a common denominator of my name shifts) even though they rarely know that it was cause I started around Gothic community. Onyx is a common one for those that new me from 1- to 5 years ago. And Ebonfire is common today.
What does this have to do with any one or anything in this webpage?
Not a thing.
But then most will not even bother to read this will they. :)
Happy holidays to you and all of yours no matter what name they claim.

BackYard Brawls
Posted 16 years agoYep it is about time to let go of another dream. This one is old more then 7 years old. But the game served it's perpose of releacing my anger. it is a shame that it didn't do better. Sometimes, you are the juicey meal for life's jokes. Well I did post the script and two of the 10 proofs. The artist never did the lion that Lydia fell for.
It was funny though, The original idea was to make the panther (the original male of the MFF Triad) come back explains where he had gone and he gets the two girls he had back but Lydia stays with this male. It was supposed to be the middle act of a play and the lion that is supposed to replace him here at the middle... he never gets drawn. (in effect he goes MIA instead. )
Ironic.
