The trip up on Wednesday was quite an experience again, the Coast Starlight trip was spectacular, weather was wonderful and the trip was great and we came in 2 hours early. This time, in my case... it was the almighty furry folder.
That folder was on the wrong disk, at the wrong time >.>
So yeah, 3 cheers for broadband!

VNV Live
Posted 17 years agoHoly shit, I saw VNV Nation LIVE last night, and oh my god that blew the shit outta everything. The show was amazing, and they did 4 encores, the crowd was just amazing as well.
From memory they did, Joy, Praise the Fallen, Epicenter, Nemisis, Farthest Star, Illusions (which was just beyond amazing), Chrome, Legion, Standing, Perpetual, and finished with Beloved.
As we were leaving we went around the building to go to our car and out pops Ronan Harris himself out the side door and it was just our group and about 5 other people just chatting with him, signing autographs and just general awesomeness.
Just, wow.

Posted 17 years agoWow, its 2008 and here I am.
Two significant things have passed this January, for years I have wanted to: Go to Further Confusion, and to take a long distance train trip, namely ride the Coast Starlight.
I managed to merge the two into one amazing trip. The ride up was a spectacular journey, granted it took a while longer than a plane, about the same time it would take to drive. But oh, not nearly as fun or relaxing.
An excerpt from an email I wrote while on it:
I must say beats air travel all the way. It is much more different than the Surfliner. There is a lot of legroom, and 45 Degree reclining seats, from laying back I can't touch the seat in front of me. This laptop fits on the tray and can have the lid fully open without touching the seat. The seats are very soft and you sink right into them. Each "row" has its own 6' window with a pair of curtains. Each chair has its own set of leg rests, on on your chair, and a foot rest on the chair in front of you. There is also a nice draft of warm air rising up from the window. The inside itself is very dark and cozy, carpeted ceilings and minimal lighting. Its also very quiet, the sound of my keyboard is the loudest sound other than the soft sound of air circulating above.
Lunch was an experience itself, a fantastic cheese burger while looking out the window to see fields of strawberries set against a backdrop of mountains while being bathed in a dance of rain.
NEVER have I felt so relaxed and not stressed while traveling. We have already made friends with everyone near us, always eager to strike up a conversation. Susan, who sits behind me, has been on this train many times and has shared with us her experiences. Right now as I type this out we are passing by miles of pure beach line with only campers and RV's randomly scattered about. The staff here has been nothing but friendly and helpful. Once again, Even me with my long legs, I have plenty of leg room to stretch out fully. I've never been traveling with everyone who is just always happy. Everyone is happy to be here. I could just fall asleep here.
And I did, fall asleep there, and trust me, when traveling, I DON'T sleep in cars or planes, I just DON'T, tried many times to but was unable to.
We arrived Wednesday night, it was cold and rainy, a quick cab ride and we were there, suiters already present giving us weary travelers a warm welcome. The sight of the hotel was just an out of body experience, after seeing many thousands of pictures online from past conventions, of many furs I would have loved to meet, seeing the areas of where they were was enough to make me light headed. After checking in, walking around was a difficult task, being on a moving object for 12 hours makes you want to sway your walking patterns a bit. After nearly crashing into a few furs and laughing about it, we did make it to our room. Ah fun times. Just being in the lobby was just an experience to behold.
One significant moment of just "NO, omg", was at the dance I managed to catch a glimpse of Vincent, for years I have just wanted to say Hi, but it was like and un-explainable field around him that made him "un-touchable." Otherwise a phenomenon known as "star-struck."
Later in the trip I managed to meet a few furs who I've admired over the years, one of them being the infamous FurFragged, If you don't know 'em go ahead and search for him, I'll wait right here. Done? Good. Its weird really, every time you see an artist or a friend for the first time, you have this "undefined mental picture" that totally does not match who you just met. Then there is the quick exchange of mental unsaid thoughts, "Hay, your the artist that draws the stuff and the things" while simultaneously, "Hay, your a guy who likes looking at the things and stuffs I made" It's quite hilarious if you stop and think about it. Any who tangent now back on track. Either way when presenting yourself to these furry celebrities, its difficult to present yourself, you most certainly don't want to come off as an "OMGEEEEE ITS U!!!!!" type of person. But yet you want to show some kind of enthusiasm. So yeah. There ya go Mr. Fragged, wish I had more time to hang with you and other artists I've met. I've always wanted to get to know them from the inside out, as many people seem to find out from the outside in.
A few others include, oh drat, I have forgotten his name. Either way, he was a suiter, (I'll try and locate his name) and we sat outside in the central patio at night for a while just talking about general con stuff, and gradually the conversation drifted into suiting, he gave us some awesome advice so, shout out to you Mr. I'llFindYourNameSoon
Another big shout out to Furven, the name that I had so much difficulty hearing that I turned to the internetz to help me, you had such an awesome suit and quite an impressive personality and fursonality.
Kaji and Kal, mah TF2 buddies, was awesome running into you at points, shame we didn't hang out more.
The ride back was a sad quiet one, was very relaxing, a lot quieter than the trip before, fell asleep a few times, and managed to catch a very beautiful sunset on the stretch of coast line, that was silhouetted by the channel islands
Wonderful trip, wonderful con. I would do the whole ride again in an instant.
I'll ask if some local furs want to do the whole trip next year.
Until then, Peace out!

2008
Posted 17 years agoHorray the new year.
FurtherConfusion is coming up rapidly, days are closing in quickly. Soon me and my beloved Fox will head up via Amtrak's Coast Starlight service to San Jose, It'll take about 12 hours, but worth every minute. Everything is set and ready to run just a few more days until then.
These past few months have been a slow one, as some people may have heard about the devastating Fires in San Diego County, yes I was among those who had to be evacuated. Uncontrollable flames were less than 2 miles from my house and as the rain falls on our still standing house I thank God for every moment I have alive as those flames were a reminder of just how powerless mankind is as a whole.
College is going slowly but surely manage to pass all classes, how about that?
Job hunting is going slow, as I don't know how much longer I have at my current employment as an IT Contractor.
A while ago I was selected to be apart of the Dystopia Testers Team which is a huge honor to be apart of, many awesome things are cooking up for version 1.2, after a complete change of development members. On that note, the map I've been working on for over a year, Tower, has reach build 76 and has proven to be a marvel in itself, a top contender for the Dystopia Mapping Competition. However I have chosen not to enter it in the competition as it still is nowhere near its final build. Like any other artist, "When its done" is when you really want to showcase it. While it is pretty and now weighs in at a heavy 40MB it already seems to be a favorite on the public servers.
Team Fortress 2, oh my gawd what a FUN game if you ever get the opportunity to try this game, do it. And if you ever get the chance to, hop into Cc2isCool's Furry Fortress server, its almost always full, and full of furries.
There you have it, an actual update!
And remember,
The Cake Is A Lie

Hammer Time!
Posted 18 years agoMaking a map under the Source engine (Half Life 2) for a mod called Dystopia. Progress is coming along and for all 5 visitors heres an update as to what it is
Background: The mega corporation, (Who's name is still in testing that we will run as codename "CORP" ) , runs the fiber lines from various corporations, both big and small. They have been contracted by both the monopolizing industries as well as the revolutionists for their connections to the world wide web. It is rumored that CORP has been intercepting connections and storing various bits of data and sending it to their corporate headquarters, in a part of town that was purchased by the entire corporation.
Synopsis: CORP has stored highly confidential information on both monopolizing corporations as well as the fast rising punk resistance. CORP has been planning to sell information that was intercepted by various punk resistance organizations to major security corporations in a blanket effort to wipe out all punk resistance. Enough information has been gathered by Punk resistance forces to then lead a movement on CORP to eliminate vital information and at the same time get information from CORP on other monopolizing corporations.
Game Play: The Punk forces have restored a small portion of the subway transit system running to the nearby tower, they must stop the flow of information and redirect security forces by cutting the power to the building and secure a presence inside the tower before the defense system quarantines the building.
Corp forces have been pushed back to closely guard the executive level on the 90th floor, Punk forces must coordinate a rush to overpower the Corp forces long enough to hack into the security console to reconfigure their priorities to secure a punk presence on the executive floor. A pair of hacked express elevators will transport the punks rapidly from the lobby to the executive floor.
Once a Punk presence is secured a secret passage from the executive level will take the Punks to the closely guarded mainframe. The punk forces must copy Corp data off of 6 servers then physically destroy them quickly to ensure that replication does not occur. Only when they are sure that the server is empty, can they destroy them.
Objectives:
1. Cut power to the building: Hack open a maintenance door or go down a staircase inside the tower to destroy the power units. (Meat space, Not recappable)
2. Secure the Executive Floor: Hack the security to send Corp forces to a higher priority destination. (Cyberspace, recappable)
3. Copy and Destroy: Copy corp information from 6 servers then physically destroy them. (Cyberspace/Meat space, When data is copied off, corps can replicate data from other servers to the empty one, Once a server is emptied it may be physically destroyed, preventing any replication) Once all servers destroyed Punks win.
Screen shots coming soon =)

Posted 19 years agoYeah, I know, All 11 people will read this but pleh.
Highlights: Just got out of a really freakin awesome round of Dystopia, (A cyber punk game for the source engine) where you can run around then jack into a cyber terminal and float around in cyberspace, have cyber fights and hack objectives and control nodes that do stuff in the real world (while your body is there lifeless, like The Matrix) So we had fun bustin' out Mani Admin and teleporting people who were in Cyberspace into Meatspace (slang for the real world). so we have the cyber versions of people floating around launching energy attacks that drain your batteries while not obaying the law of gravity.
I then had the strange idea to go visit my Body in meatspace, (the cyber terminal displays the hackers point of view. So i was looking at myself looking at myself... http://www.lan24.us/temp/dys_fortress0014.jpg
So ya, that plus every player being in TeamSpeak, sheer comedy. Get in the game, Free mod. www.dystopia-game.com
In side news, In rememberence of the game that stumped us for hours on end. Cheers to the D'ni, and to you too Atrus, may you live forever in my new avatar. A count down from 25 to 0 in D'ni numbers of course (a base 25 number system)
