MCFC Report stuff :)
Posted 10 years agoThe 2015 MCFC has come and gone, and like last year this one was an absolute blast!
Our room was myself with
Garthwolf
Clumzy and
tillwoofie there from Thursday until Monday. Though the weather was a little colder and snowier than last year, Saturday was perfect for the parade and group photo outside. I never did any panels this year, but next year i may host the Fursuit Care and Maintenance one again.
It was great to see so many familiar faces again, old friends and new. The Sponsors lounge brew was really good again this year, with a new Cider they added.
The food at the supersponsors's Bruncheon and Dinner was great this year too.
Also
lagan debuted his new Tommy Wolf suit there this year.
Next year, i thought about towing my RV there to park in the parking lot and cooking up a batch of traditional East Coast Canadian Poutine for the Car Show thing outside if all went well (and were all still on the planet) but i'm not sure what the Hotel's policy and rules are with parking a RV in their lot, also the Con's rules (i will have to look into it first with them.) I will post soem photos soon from the con, including the group photos with pictures taken by Skyfox, Chayce, Pandez, and others.
Overall the con was a blast, one of the most fun cons i attended again!

The thin-line of Critique and Critization.
Posted 10 years ago- "Critique" has become more of a scourge of the furry artist part of the fandom than a constructive benefit to artists.
5 - 10 years ago it was fine and actually may have been beneficial to new beginner 2D artists to have what used to be called "constructive critique" to help them with pointers and tips on their art works, but there is a real thin line where this can become more of an insult, demerit slander to an established artist with an established style they do. In the 2D art world critique is sort of more applicable in "some" cases only, as in 2D art there are no limitations, restrictions, or rules when it comes to anatomy and design. But even then, critique is nothing more than an "opinion" of one person who "thinks and believes" an artist's particular art piece should be done to "their" likings, not in the way the artist has rendered it. Basically, Critique is a way for someone to press their opinion on parts of an art piece "they" do not like of feel should be done to "their" satisfaction or liking. and sadly many criticizers are younger, less experienced artists who really do not understand the fundamentals of how Art should be viewed, seen and even done by each artists "unique" styles.
also its noted that the following & rationale of certain common criticizers & their habits tend to post unwarranted critique because it makes themselves feel better, and more important to be able to press their thoughts and opinions on artists on an art piece to try to push forward that a pieces should be done or changed to "their" likings and feeling, not the person who commissioned the art because the commissioner "liked" the way that particular artist does their style. ( even if they are a lesser matured artist or even incapable of doing it themselves.
In the case when it comes to fursuits and costumes, it can be more of an insult or derogatory remark towards the builder (or builders company) on a customer's product that is built and designed to the CUSTOMERS wants, needs, & design requests, not to the criticizer's wants and preferences.
One example of the faults here is, say a criticizer says that the neck is to short, or the head is to big, or the arms or legs are to long or short on a fursuit to be "anatomically "correct" to a cartoon character or drawing. Now for a fursuit to be worn by a human being, its Impossible to make the suit match certain cartoon, CGI, or animated characters because the human anatomy proportions do not allow it (not in this reality anyway) People can not shrink their heads, or shorten their arms or lengthen their necks, or bend their skeletal structure in the ways many animals do, or the ways that there are no limitations to a fictional character.
Point its, even with artworks, but especially fursuits, the piece is being built, designed, shaped, & constructed to what the CUSTOMER or COMMISSIONER wants and requests, NOT what some viewer thinks or wants, (which is basically what critique has become to be lately.) From what i have read and seen in the past years of those self-proclaimed critiquers posting un-warranted critique to many artists works, 90% always resulted in drama or heated discussions between them or in threads of some sorts.
I do not, and never did support public critique for so many reasons, Never did and never will. I feel to post public constructive (in reality 90% is negative) critique without asking the artist first can even be considered ignorant, bigoted, derogatory, and even downright insulting sometimes to many artists, especially to professional artists & fursuit builders who have established a "style" and design that works and the majority of public prefers already.
Critique is something that has become very unwelcome in the fandom over the years especially with fursuit builders who work on it as a job. While its passable and ok to "some" when it comes to 2D art or amateur builders who build their personal fursuit, for fursuit builders who builds costumes fro customers based on designs and preferences that the "customer" wants and requests, it comes off as more of an ignorant & even arrogant insult and an attack in some cases.
In this day & age to post critique publicly without asking the artist/builder first can be seen as somewhat rude, ignorant, insulting, and even in extreme cases slander against a business. While many younger "self-proclaimed criticizers" may not understand, and never can understand the views that many in the field see it as that, its the way it is seen by many. There is really no such thing a "constructive positive critique, its always negative in some manner against an artist or builder no matter how the Criticizer try to claim it to be.
( I will monitor this topic and remove/block those who reply here in any direct negative fashion. These are my opinions and thoughts on the whole Critique things that is shared in the same view as many other professional builders do with it and feel about it. If anyone feels otherwise, then that is your opinion and yours alone. Please Keep it to yourself if you don't understand my view on this subject. - FS6

FurAffinity sold / and Concerns of others.
Posted 10 years ago-I see a lot of journals & tweets posted about the fact that FA has been sold off to Entertainment conglomerate " IMVU ".
Some of them are utterly REDICULOUS, with the whining, crying, and emo tantrums that i'm reading. Shit happens. There no need to cry over spilled milk.
If FA sticks around and IMVU decides to keep it running as it is, then good. If IMVU decides to eventually turn it into a money-making scheme by charging fees to users, or they decides to open it up into a porno free-for-all, or they decides to re-write it entirely, or they dissolves it into their collective, the list goes on but there is no point in so many people worrying or getting upset. Many people depend on FA and have wrapped their lives around it so badly its retarded.
Again, Shit happens. Other furry sites have come and gone over the years, Furnation, Yerf, the list goes on. Some survive to thrive, some die.
I don't plan on leaving FA or stop posting here as so many others have claimed to do over un-founded worries and concerns.
There "are" other places many of us are located, including Weasyl, Facebook, Twitter, DeviantArt, Ink Bunny, this list too goes on.
If FA do turn into some Barbie Doll floozy Flea Market or get assimilated into the IMVU Borg Collective, I will still be on my other sites listed below, so if your worried that the world will end if any of that happens to FA then add me & find me on these listed below. If FA do go, then i will simply become much more active on those listed below.

Please spread the word, Help Draces crush cancer fundraiser!
Posted 10 years ago- Reposted from ByCats4Cats & SaltySuits:
http://www.youcaring.com/medical-fu.....cancer-/323454
From Shakopee Friends and Family:
On October 10th 2014 Keith/Draces
draces was diagnosed with stage 4a colon cancer. He has undergone multiple chemotherapy treatments as well as a complex 11 hour surgery to remove what ended up being a lot more tumors than what was originally found.
The surgeons had to removed his gallbladder, 1/3 of his liver, a foot and a half of large intestines, a small chunk of his duodenum (first part of small intestines) right next to the exit of the stomach, appendix, 22 lymph nodes, tissue around the pancreas and the right kidney.
Because of the surgery done to his small intestines he has to have a temporary ileostomy for the next 3-6 months. Once healed he will have one last surgery so it is no longer needed.
Its been about a month and a half since his surgery which took place on January 29th 2015. Today Keith/Draces went to get what would hopefully have been his last 4 months of Chemotheropy to kill off any possible remaining cancer. Unfortunatly when he got his CT scan they found 2 new tumors growing in his liver. He will have to undergo more surgery in about 3 months to remove these tumors.
This is a very difficult time in Keith's/Draces life and he needs the support of his friend and family. Which is why we are coming together to raise money to help him take care of whatever it is he may need to help him through this.
As you may know he has outstanding medical bills which are nearly impossible to handle on his own. Currently he owes about $90,000 in bills. Because of this it is hard for him to enjoy himself and use money for things that make him happy. I know for a fact he is unable to go to Furry Conventions that he wishes he could because of this.
Even if we are donating purely for Keith's/Draces Medical bills, he still would not have the funds to do all the things he loves and just for comfort in this time.
Donations big and small are greatly appreaciated. However, if you don't have anything to spare, sharing this page could be just as helpful. Please help this lovable Snow Leopard through his journey and show him how important he is to this world.
- On a side note,
SaltySuits going to be doing a custom head auction starting at $450 for any canine / vulpine character on a resin based head. With all proceeds going directly to support for Draces.

What if the whole world was furry?
Posted 10 years agoWhat would it be like if the whole world was 100% furry. :P
The parts i like about the furry community is there there is no (or very, very little) ethnic differences or opinions, meaning it don't matter what country your from or live, race, religion, gender, sexual preference, planet, or anything. Everyone is the "same" in the fandom for the most part.
There would maybe a bit to much soap-opera drama though and aliens watching us may think our planet is weird. :P

CR Crafts fucking up bad.
Posted 10 years agoIts bad enough that CR Crafts are"always out" of popular fur fabrics, (when apparently Monterey Mills have them in their stock) now CR Crafts are fucking up orders and sending out wrong fur fabrics. i have ordered quite a bit of fur from CR Crafts over the years, and never got wrong materials, until now. I ordered one type of fur, and they send me something completely different!
CR Crafts going down hill and going to shit...

Happy Chocolates, valentines, and snuggles day!

Furs out of stock again and more..
Posted 10 years agoIm guessing most of all fursuit builders are experiencing the same problems i am "again" with CR Crafts & MM being out of the Teddy-Bear White, Black, Grey, and Honey furs AGAIN! ( common thing with CR Crafts for more than 2 years now..
Its been a common problem now for the last two years with the Monterey Mills manufacturer dragging its ass with these popular fur fabrics, and disastrous for us Fursuit Builders trying to get suits that need this fur done.
I know of another supplier that is local who can supply a very similar type of fur, but its 4-times the price per yard.

Fursuit and Updates! :)
Posted 10 years agoGetting back to busy busy busy :P
- Been working on fursuit feet all night for one suit, and discussing earlier with some of the new suits on the list to open. Right now the WIPs that are already started include the Rocket Raccoon, a floppy-eared doggie, finishing up the Tommy suit, starting a black wolf, and discussing the preliminary details to open up more in this group including a White arctic wolf, a Hyena, three other wolves, and a feline.
- I plan on opening up a larger group this time & extending the group build duration, ( which allows longer time and makes it easier for those few who wish to pay out their new suit longer)
- Also in updates i will be attending MotorCityFurCon in March. ( as posted in a previous Journal.
- Then two months after in May will be the start of the spring/summer days with the 2nd Furry Canoe Camping Trip to Algonquin Park in Ontario.
Last year we had six of us on the trip, and it was a blast.
We left on Friday on Canada's May long weekend, and Canoed in to a private Island campsite for three nights. outdoor fun.
This year we have five Canoes, Tents, and plans for up to 10 people in the group, and right now we have 7 confirmed and 3 more empty spots open for new people on the trip.

- I am still re-arranging my house back to normal and getting my suit work area back to use will likely take me until middle of the coming week, which then i plan on working hard at the fursuit stuff to try to get things flowing again, and begin the opening of another 4 - 5 suits on the list while working on finishing the current WIP's including the TommyWolf, Rocket Raccoon, and others.

2015 and New year changes.
Posted 10 years agoSo 2014 is winding down.
- in 2015 will see some changes to the policies at SSC for fursuit build times and the Application contract. I already still uphold some of the fastest build times for fursuits, ( from the time its started i usually get the suits done within a 3 month period, excluding delays from fur orders, loads, etc.)
When you order a suit from Stormfire Studios, and when you make that first payment.. it do not take 2, 3, or 4 years to get the suit completed, 80 % of the time its still LESS than 90 days from the time its started, and 100 % its less than 180 days.
- Also as i said earlier this year, i CAN build different styles of requested. ( just not a style that copies "directly" another fellow builders style.)
i can build toony, ( the Corgi, Raver Rabbit, Hypr Cat, etc. are examples) also in the next month you will see the first examples of a realistic design from me.
One in particular is a Rocket Racoon suit, along with the Timberwolf head.
- I feel i need to expand to offer a more range of designs to customers. Keep in mind, people go with a particular fursuit builder because they "like" their design, ( hence why a lot of my recent builds have been canines is because people like the design i have done with past suits.)
- This is not a critique journal, but i am open to people asking about other designs and if i can do them.
Fursuit building is ART & Creation. Period.
Expansion, advancement, & improvement is a goal of all artists. After 15 years active in the furry community and 6 years of building fursuits as a profession, i still will try to improve, learn, and advance what i enjoy to do, because as i said before... it makes me happy to make other happy, with bringing their characters to life...
