A little late but...polka!
Posted 14 years agoTo the tune Supercalifragilistic-expialidocious
When I was just ein junger Mann I studied canon law;
While Erfurt was a challenge, it was just to please my Pa.
Then came the storm, the lightning struck, I called upon Saint Anne,
I shaved my head, I took my vows, an Augustinian! Oh...
Chorus:
Papal bulls, indulgences, and transubstantiation
Speak your mind against them and face excommunication!
Nail your theses to the door, let's start a Reformation!
Papal bulls, indulgences, and transubstantiation!
When Tetzel came near Wittenberg, St. Peter's profits soared,
I wrote a little notice for the All Saints' Bull'tin board:
"You cannot purchase merits, for we're justified by grace!
Here's 95 more reasons, Brother Tetzel, in your face!" Oh...
Chorus:
Papal bulls, indulgences, and transubstantiation
Speak your mind against them and face excommunication!
Nail your theses to the door, let's start a Reformation!
Papal bulls, indulgences, and transubstantiation!
They loved my tracts, adored my wit, all were exempleror;
The Pope, however, hauled me up before the Emperor.
"Are these your books? Do you recant?" King Charles did demand,
"I will not change my Diet, Sir, God help me here I stand!" Oh...
Chorus:
Papal bulls, indulgences, and transubstantiation -
Speak your mind against them and face excommunication!
Nail your theses to the door, let's start a Reformation!
Papal bulls, indulgences, and transubstantiation!
Duke Frederick took the Wise approach, responding to my words,
By knighting "George" as hostage in the Kingdom of the Birds.
Use Brother Martin's model if the languages you seek,
Stay locked inside a castle with your Hebrew and your Greek! Oh...
Chorus:
Papal bulls, indulgences, and transubstantiation -
Speak your mind against them and face excommunication!
Nail your theses to the door, let's start a Reformation!
Papal bulls, indulgences, and transubstantiation!
Let's raise our steins and Concord Books while gathered in this place,
And spread the word that 'catholic' is spelled with lower case;
The Word remains unfettered when the Spirit gets his chance,
So come on, Katy, drop your lute, and join us in our dance! Oh...
Chorus:
Papal bulls, indulgences, and transubstantiation -
Speak your mind against them and face excommunication!
Nail your theses to the door, let's start a Reformation!

I should have posted this yesterday for reformation Sunday

To fight against it.
Hey looky, what I've gotten myself into now.
Posted 14 years agoFor those who don't know I am doing a year studying abroad in Scotland. As of Friday I will have been Glasgow for one week.
So lets see, thoughts,
CCCCOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLDDDD
WWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEETTTTTTTTT
GGGGGRRRRRREEEEEEEYYYYYYYY
Beeeeeeeaaaaaaatttttttttttsssssss South Carolina. It's not oppressively hot and they have paved area next to roads which the cars aren't allowed on, they call them Sidewalks. It is something totally new to me, since where I come from pedestrians are thought to be dirty commies or worse black.
I'm splinting a Uni flat with 5 other guys, we are all foreign students and a health mix too. We come from Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, the Czech Republic, and China.
I've only gotten to know the German and the Dutch all that well since they are the ones I can hold a proper conversation with. It took them less than 72 hours to realize I'm Sheldon.
Now for something actually relevant to somebody reading this. I recently picked up a used Wacom digitizer fairly cheap and will be playing around and learning, you know digital stuff.

An update to the nature of summer.
Posted 14 years agoAs I may have mentioned in my previous journal I was taking care of my grandmother, this is no longer the case. Three Mondays ago we checked her to a local hospital for 72 hour observation, which be came a 2 week stay. This stay ended last Friday when she died of renal failure.
We knew she was very ill and didn't have much time left and made peace with this before it happened.
I am doing fine.
I just have been busy with the funereal and my extended family, apparently I have two uncles, who'd of thunk it, and have been very busy. Tomorrow we have the internment and by the end of the week most of my relatives will be out of my hair and my summer is going to get back to some sort of normalcy.

So my summer is blown.
Posted 14 years agoLast Friday I had to take my grandmother to Doctor's office for some blood work. I left for the weekend to go to mountains with some friends who will be moving out of the state in a week or so and when I came back I was informed the I may have spend sometime over at her house to take care of her.
Monday she collapsed and could not get up. I she didn't hurt herself and it was just a fainting spell, but given her health it looks like she is going to need 24 supervision. Fortunately, auntie was coming to visit this week and she can do this, but come the weekend she leaves and I probably will be moving in with my grandmother full time to take care of her, until she gets better or more permanent arrangements can be made, a.k.a. she is put in a nursing home.
Today, I had to take her to cardiologists appointment, which was quiet the misadventure, it took 5 hours including going to the wrong hospital first. I had to take her despite my aunt being available because my parents don't trust either of them to advocate for her properly or actually listen to the doctor. Which is kind of sad that you have trust the 22 year that is constantly being told to act their age to be the adult.
Anywho, the upshot of all this I have to babysit my grandmother for the next couple of weeks. It actually isn't much work since there is already a lady that cleans the house and a nurse that helps her bathe. All I have to do is make sure she eats, takes her meds and is put to bed. Otherwise it is being on hand to prevent her from hurting herself, so actually have alot of free time and need something to keep occupied. So, I may do some art.
Thing is I don't actually trust myself to sit down and do it without and an impetus, so would any like to do a trade or collab? Both strike me as being fun.
