Art questions:
1. Do you prefer traditional drawing, or digital?
Traditional drawing is where I started and it has always felt a bit more natural to me. But there are so many possibilities with digital work, and it’s awesome that you can use so many tools that would cost a fortune to acquire physically. That said nowadays I draw generally digital work.
2. How long have you been drawing?
Since forever! I do remember there being a specific point where I sat down and decided that I wanted to dedicate myself to it a lot more though. This was at about age 13? I was inspired by artists that I came across online and I decided that I wanted to practice to become as good as them.
3. What’s your least favorite thing to draw?
Probably backgrounds, but not for lack of liking them. I just need to practice them more. D:
4. Do you draw professionally, or just for fun?
Both sort of? I draw for myself, but I also take commissions and I want to open a shop.
5. Are you confident about your art?
In a general sense, yes. It hasn’t always been this way, and I definitely have my times where I’m not happy with how something turned out, or I have to give something a few more tries before I get it right. But I feel good with how far I’ve come since starting out! One of my biggest payoffs and motivators is when I’m working on something and I take a look at it, and I’m impressed with myself and what I have created. It’s one of my favorite parts of drawing when I draw something I’m super happy with that I feel really expresses what I want it to.
6. How long does an average piece take you to complete?
Depends on what I’m doing. A sketch may take anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes depending on how complicated the drawing. Line-art generally takes me the longest, ranging from an hour to a few again based off complicity. Coloring can be quick or long based on whether I know what colors I want to use. It really just depends, but all in all, a few hours ranging to a couple days for complicated work? I want to become quicker in my processes, but all it takes is practice. The better you know what you’re doing, the quicker you can do it. I’ve certainly gotten much faster from how long things took me a few years ago!
7. What is the easiest thing for you to draw?
I like to draw in a free formed kind of toony style, and that’s most natural for me. I find animals easier to draw than humans, and I have the most ease when drawing creatures with abstract forms. Plus, it’s just fun! :3
8. What inspires you to not just make art, but to be a better artist?
Vision/Challenge/and Message are probably my three biggest reasons. Art is a really cool way to share your inner world with the outer world. I’ve always wanted to be able to share certain thoughts with the world in hopes that they might be useful or help people to think more about the meaning of things. Art and storytelling is a cool mode for this. I also enjoy the challenge presented in mastering how to do this. Even at it’s most challenging, I still enjoy what I’m doing.
(( On an end note: I'm in the midst of a surprise move atm, so if art has been/is a tad slow for a short period this is why. D: I really hope and plan to post regularly soon. ))
