A Quick Look Back
Posted 4 months agoSeeing Deonwolf's post I was reminded that it's the 10th anniversary of Doug Winger passing, which I did a journal about back then and felt was worth following up on. Crazy to think it's been that long already. As I said at the time, he was one of the early inspirations for me with what could be done with NSFW art. The combination of naughty and comedy is such a fun approach to take. And part of why I tend to go for some amusement in art. Similarly why I enjoy some of the antics in Deonwolf's art such as Deonpup interacting with characters. And Deon I've likewise known of for a long time. Same with Tani Da Real, who I've known of longer than most of my characters have even existed when I still mostly browsed SFW art.
It's also a reminder in some ways of how long I've been in the fandom now. My longest-running character, Rachel, will have been around for 18 years this August. Though in some ways her character had versions that predate even that. Kinda nuts how much things have changed in that time. I was still using Windows XP at the time in 2007. And for added context, the PS3 and Wii had only come out the year prior.
I haven't done my own art as much these days but at some point I'd like to get back into it more in addition to the commissions that I get. In the meantime I've been helping some others learn with their own art which is a satisfaction of its own. It's interesting being an inspiration to others. Never thought of myself that way but it's neat, heheh.
With this quick look back to the past, thanks for all the great and entertaining art you did, Doug. And for being such an inspiration even all these years later to so many others.
Also heck it's been ages since my last journal.

Where I've been
Posted 7 years agoBeen an age since the last journal, eh?
Well, I've been keeping busy. Spent the first half of the year occupied with finishing up school and finally, finally graduated in May. Much happiness for that~ Then in recent months I've been job hunting, which I managed to land one and will be starting soon. Looking forward to getting some money for projects and art again.
Did have some health issues crop up back in July and August, which led to gallbladder surgery, so that was fun. /s But mended up now and back to normal.
I've been trying to get back to sketching and working on art, but art blocks have been bugging me. I'll see what I can do during downtime between shifts.
So although quick, there's a quick summary of the past few months. Back to my quiet art corner to ponder ideas. owo

Another year around the sun
Posted 8 years agoYep. Today's my birthday again, and crossing another decade mark. Feels odd since I don't feel 30. But that's okay with me. X3 But yeah, figured I'd send a journal up with the mention, heheh.
Been enjoying playing the SNES Classic. So worth the time to get one and revisit years past. But I'll keep that brief since YouTube has reviews a-plenty about the system. >w> Hope everyone is enjoying the changing seasons so far. ^^

Rachel Ravenwood -- A brief look back
Posted 8 years agoBusy possum lately, heh.
Anyway, a bit more of a special occasion this month. Rachel has been a long-lasting character of mine as some have seen. But this year is a bit more special in that regard in that it's been 10 years since I first drew her. Yep, back in August, 2007, I drew a lady foxy to go with and be a love interest to my then green haired fox sona who has been retired as a character for quite a while now. But the charming vixen has continued on and is as charming as ever~
I say this because I plan on posting a sort of then and now set to show not just how she's changed but my own artwork differences as well since then, as well as catch up on some art I've been meaning to upload. And I hope folks find it enjoyable. ^^
As for the vixen herself, I count her birthday as being on the 8th, if anyone is curious. Why? Well, that might be answered soon as well. >w> Stay tuned.

So, Mayternity is a thing
Posted 8 years agoYeah, I realize I'm about two weeks late for making such a journal but I figured I should at least acknowledge it since I did change my icon for the occasion. X3 Tis nice to see the art that gets posted this time of year~ I do have at least one relevant image to upload sometime for the occasion as well. Also, a belated Mother's Day to all the moms out there. ^^
One additional thing, a thanks to all the recent watches and faves. I may not personally thank everyone, but I do appreciate the support. ^^

Journal bump and a PSA
Posted 8 years agoSince it's now April I figured I should probably nudge the Christmas journal away. >w>;
Also, thanks to all the new faves and watches in the time since then. I'm glad I have art uploaded that's of interest to folks. X3
I'm gradually working on gathering more images to upload, as well as planning out projects for other works. School and motivation being the main issues, heh.
Also, a bit of a PSA since it's come up a few times in the past. If you like something from my gallery enough to want to share it and/or color it, I would appreciate being asked first, or the artist I got an image from. And I would also like credit to be given to the source so I can be found by those people who genuinely want to show appreciation with their efforts. I'm not asking much and generally I don't bite, honest. As long as you're polite about it I probably won't mind if I'm asked. But being sneaky, intentionally or not, is more likely to make me mad about it. There's a reason those big ugly watermarks show up on some people's work is because they get tired of the sneaky sharing.
"Hey, I really like this image can I share it on (site)? I'll be sure to link back." That's all it should really take.
Anyway, that's all for now. I'm trying to be nice about it so I'm mentioning it publicly. I don't want to have to be "that guy" about such things. Just show some respect and courtesy, please.

Merry Christmas. ^^
Posted 9 years agoFigured I ought to do a journal before it becomes the 26th in my time zone. >w>;
But yeah, Merry Christmas and happy holidays, everyone. ^^ I hope it's been a lovely day for you all. We even got decent snow all day in my area for the occasion, which hasn't happened in a fair number of years. X3 Nice to get a traditional-feeling Christmas Snow this year.
Time to enjoy some more warm music and treats. ^^

Uploads complete and added discussion
Posted 9 years agoYep, with the most recent image I'm pretty much caught up on images for now. I do admittedly have a couple more sketches, but they're convention ones and I've not gotten around to scanning them yet. ^^;
I've also done some of the gallery cleaning that I said I was going to do. Again, nothing major but a couple of sketches way, way back that I could do without cluttering things up back there. Might do some more tidying later™.
And on the subject of galleries, yes, I've seen the new update. Do I care for it? Not particularly, but I don't actively loath it, either. My main issue is that I think it unbalances the visual weight of submissions far more than should be acceptable for an art site. Some of the outcry-induced tweaks have made it a little better, but it certainly should not have been rolled out across both the Beta UI as well as the Classic UI all at once with so little warning. (Though I partially blame Twitter in that regard for skipping that one notification sent out about the update despite me following the FA feed. That sure put the "twit" in "Twitter", that's for sure.) Something like that was better left to the Beta where it fit better inherently, much like how a similar UI is part of Weasyl but was built in from the get-go and thus feels part of it (and some dislike its UI for the same reasons folks haven't liked the change here). Or have it be optional. Frankly I think it ought to be rolled back and separated to have each UI get its own respective format/default option. After all, the site already has to check what style is selected for each user, light, dark, beta, and so on. Just one more small check to tack onto the list and then pull the relevant data that it's already having to load and retrieve the specified entries from.
Some have compared the update to the rollout of Windows 8. I don't think that's entirely fair to either Windows 8 or FA. I would say it's more like Windows 7 versus Windows 10. Some prefer the previous UI style, and others prefer the new style. For some using the older version (in this example FA's Classic Mode and Windows 7), the new setup has a couple new things and some layout changes, sure, but overall comes off as more a pointless "meh" for folks. Change for the sake of it and not really adding much that they care about when what's under the hood isn't really all that different, more-or-less.
Anyway, there's my 2¢ on the matter and kind of a look at the sides I'm seeing. Let it be an option to select from. Then regardless of which style a user preferred they could have it. Like the classic style? Alrighty. Want the more Metro-type version? That's fine too.
I'll go ahead and wrap up, though. My idiomatic 2¢ is probably closer to 12¢ by this point with the rambling. X3 We'll see what happens from here. I'll see about working on posting more art once the semester winds down, or something.

Updates and uploads -- Part 2 The De-loading
Posted 9 years agoThat added part to the title seemed better in my head than it turned out. Ah well. ^^;
Anyway. So, I've started with the uploads mentioned in the previous journal, but there's still a fair bit more lovelies to come through the rest of the week. And a pretty good variety of themes going on, too, with sketches I've worked on over the past several months on and off. ^^ Some touching on hyper themes, which I feel I've improved quite a bit with since my last posted efforts from quite some time ago in a few cases.
And on the subject of "quite some time ago", I've also been doing some thinking and feeling that I really ought to do some pruning to my gallery. Mostly some of my more subpar (even for the time), photographed sketches from like 4, 5, or more years ago. I am working on archiving them first, though, so they won't be completely gone if someone wants to see them at a later date.
It pretty much feels like when a person looks out their window and realizes "Dang, I really should trim that rose bush and pull a few weeds out of the garden". X3
But there's the heads up on that. In the meantime, enjoy the holiday week if you're in the States. Otherwise, enjoy the upcoming arts as they are posted. ^^

Updates and uploads
Posted 9 years agoFirst, a (very) belated thanks for birthday wishes last month. ^^
You'll have to excuse my keeping a low profile recently. Been busy with school as well as avoiding election talk. That's all I'll say about that.
Anyway, I'm on break this upcoming week, so I'll be trying to gather up and post a bunch of art, both recent and not. Some commissions and some convention sketches. The con sketches will probably be done as a collage to keep the amount of uploads reasonable. Both for me and those who watch me. X3 Though that's not to say I won't post them individually if folks ask enough.
Anyway, that's the plan for the upcoming week. I ~might~ try a stream at some point as well, if the motivation strikes. But no promises on that. We'll see. ^^
In the meantime, off to gather up the art and sketch. Should be fun. X3

My how time flies
Posted 9 years agoAlready coming up on another birthday, this weekend. This has been one interesting year, for better or worse. ^^;
Still been busy, but I'll see what I can perhaps post soon. But I have still been trying to sketch here and there. I'll also try to get to posting some more things sometime soon™. School has just managed to keep my motivation preoccupied or in "meh" territory.
I wonder if I'll actually get a cheesecake this year instead of a more "traditional" cake. I guess I'll find out this weekend. X3

Hoo-wee!
Posted 9 years agoSo, this journal is a bit late since things have been busy lately. X3
The convention was quite enjoyable. A few hiccups here and there since apparently it was a new venue, but overall I had a nice time. ^^
Didn't take long to have more going on when I got home, though, as my friend JSfreeman came to visit that following week. We had a great time, and I showed him many of the sights in the area, and there's lots to see the next time he's up here as well. It was his first time this far north, so quite the adventure to share seeing parks and monuments with someone who'd never seen them in person before. ^^ I'll link to his journal when he posts it, so you can read all the details and his impressions of the trip.
After he headed out of town to head home, I had to get ready for my next semester. It's been fairly mellow, but keeping busy due to dealing with office politics at the school. But it also means that art will continue to be hit and miss for a while. I can try and post sketches if folks are interested. I do have some commissions I've bought that I'll be posting before too long, though.
Anyway, there's how the past several weeks have been. Little hectic, but definitely not in a bad way. X3

Con prep and update
Posted 9 years agoDental procedure went well. Already starting to feel better than how I felt last week with the tooth.
Anyway, Going to be getting on the road to RMFC in the next day or so. Should prove to be an interesting weekend having furs and non furs on the trip. X3
I won't be doing much in the way of suiting though I'll have my possum tail with me, at least. Feel free to say hi if you see me there. I'll try to be around to check messages from time to time, but I can't promise too much until I get back at the end of the weekend. ^^;
In the meantime, have fun. ^^

Slight update on things
Posted 9 years agoBeen a while since my last journal but I thought I'd get folks up to speed on where I've been the past several weeks since the last journal.
Once spring classes finished up I had an internship which took some time away from doing art though I did get some stuff worked on and posted.
But in the past week I've been feeling way out of it and not up to doing much. See, I recently I damaged a tooth of mine quite badly somehow (I still have no idea how) and despite efforts to keep it fine until it can be addressed it's been hurting quite a bit this week. As a result, the medications I've been taking to keep the pain at bay have left me feeling tired a lot and just "eh" in general. So if I've seemed less outgoing at times in conversations than usual lately, that's partly why. I'll be getting it taken care of on Monday, which will also probably have me out of commission through a lot of that day, as well. After that I should hopefully be more-or-less back to normal.
As an added mention, I've been invited to tag along to RMFC the weekend of the 12th for some folks who've not been to a con previously. So there's a chance that if anyone is going to be at the Denver area convention you might be able to spot me there then. I'll be curious if anyone else might be going.

Mayternity
Posted 9 years agoParticipating in it this year. So I've set my icon to be the one of Rachel. And I'll also see about uploading a few relevant images that I've meant to upload. So there'll be a few things to look forward to. ^^
Good to do some art again
Posted 9 years agoWhew, it has been a while since I posted an image. ^^; Though I have been trying to sketch here and there. I'll see about trying to upload a few things after the semester is over.
Forwarding a journal
Posted 9 years agoOn being given a mention, helping spread word of someone helping a person out. http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/7469450/
Also, pardon my lack of posting much. Been busy trying to keep up with classes and haven't posted many of the doodles I've been trying to do in between.

Merry Christmas~ ^^
Posted 10 years agoIt's been a crazy season, but I figured I'd post a quick journal to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. ^^
I hope you all have a fun and safe one with who you spend it with, be it family, friends, or significant other.
And in the spirit of the holiday, here's a special I used to watch a lot as a kid. The Berenstain Bears' Christmas Tree. Charming special and worth a watch. ^^

Posted 10 years agoThanks for all the birthday wishes yesterday, everyone~ I'm happy to see y'all also enjoyed the batch of images I posted last night as well. ^^
I'll see about working on a few more things to post sometime, as well. Still getting a few things taken care of with my new computer, like getting my tablet set up again, but things are coming together well overall with it. A rather fun way to finish out the latter half of the week. X3

General update
Posted 10 years agoSo, I was reminded that my birthday is next Thursday. X3 I barely even noticed how the time has gone with how much has gone on this year. Crazy to think about.
And while I'm still on my laptop due to my desktop computer conking out (mentioned on Twitter, for those who didn't hear about it), I do have a couple ideas of some stuff I can post around then. Thank goodness for backups and the like copied over, heh.
I am starting to also get a setup going to where I can at least try and get back to art more in the meantime until I get a new desktop computer, though I have been practicing traditional works to keep my skills to a reasonable level. Posted a couple of those to Twitter as well.
Anyway, there's my update. I'll be seeing what I can do to post more now that things are settling down and getting set up to where I can do more.

The Trip
Posted 10 years agoMostly back now, so I figured it was time for a journal or two summing it up and what a trip it was.
Left at the end of May and started west with my aunt (who was tagging along to see family), heading through Tennessee, Arkansas, with a bit of a delay in Oklahoma. We had stopped for the night just inside the state line when it was found that there were storms ahead and rather than headbutt possible heavy rains. Best. Decision. Ever. Turns out that the storm we would have gone through tried to spawn some tornadoes... pretty much right beside us. That, along with flood watches and warnings, we happened to be in the one part of the state it seemed that did not have anything major happen.
After waiting a second day to let the roads reopen, we continued on, stopping for a short time along the way in Shamrock, Texas, to visit some Route 66 highlights (among the many we saw along Interstates 40 and 44). And shoutouts again, as I did on Twitter, to the ladies who had the visitors' center open on a Sunday on their own time. Very cool. Side notes, Amarillo was more green than I was teased about at one point, given all the rain in the area. X3 New Mexico and Arizona were nice, though relatively uneventful. And Oklahoma apparently had a sense of humor, such as Lotawatah Rd on a sign beside a body of water.
Anyway, we finally got into California and I met up with
jsfreeman and his family, spending a couple days in the area having fun with them. It was a wonderful time there seeing the local sights and hanging out. ^w^ Also did a drawing for him along the way, which you can see in his gallery here and I'll see about reposting sometime, myself.
Upon leaving California, we headed north to Idaho to meet up with family for the next leg of the trip. She went off to visit folks while I went with family back east towards New Hampshire via an RV. We went up through Wyoming and across towards Michigan, crossing into Canada from the northern peninsula. By the time we got into New Hampshire, we'd been on the road for about two weeks and camping in some rather remote areas at times.
(By the way, for those keeping track, I'm up to about 6,000 miles now on this. And I've not even gotten to the "main" part of the trip yet with this telling.)
From there, we hopped south to Boston to fly out to Dublin, Ireland for a week to see the sights and dig up some family history in the country. While there, we had day trips to Galway on the west coast and Belfast in Northern Ireland, to see the Titanic museum, one of the main highlights of which is the restoration of one of the Titanic's tenders, passenger ferry and now the last White Star Line ship left, the Nomadic. As a side mention, the winged possum I picked up at MFF, and made my travel buddy, was nicknamed Nomad by a few after that day at the ship. But so many would give him whatever nickname they could come up with. X3 Still, it's a cute name for him, and rather fitting. ^^
After Dublin and Ireland in general, we hopped over to Inverness, Scotland, staying with additional family who joined up with us in a cottage a little ways outside of town. A couple days after getting there, a few of us went on a guided tour to the Isle of Skye, seeing a few castles along the way such as Eilean Donan, with a return trip to stop by Loch Ness (no sightings, though, heheh). Absolutely gorgeous scenery. The rolling, sometimes steep, hills and moors in the west capped with misty and wispy clouds, it was very much like one would expect of the Scottish Highlands. And the insight the guide gave us into some of the Gaelic background of many of the town names was cool as well, especially since it's a first language for him.
After about two weeks in Scotland, we briefly headed south to England for a visit to the Bovington Tank Museum, which my brother had wanted to see. Rather neat place. Lots of history to artillery that I'd not have guessed. Even the live demonstrations had some surprises to it.
The trip back to the States was a bit tiresome, though. So many airport checkpoints, holy cow. But at least I made it back. X3 Still don't have my main computer back up and running, but that hopefully won't be too much longer. Once I do, I'll see about putting together an album or something of the highlights. I also want to get back to a few projects I want to wrap up as well as draw. I sketched out a few of the suggestions given in the departure journal and other places, so I might see what I can do to polish and share those as well. In the meantime, it's good to be back more again... at around 16,000 miles traveled. ._.

An August vixen
Posted 10 years agoNot much of note happens in August. However, there is something I wanted to bring up related to my art and gallery. Specifically, it's the anniversary of when Rachel was first established as a complete character. Before then, 7 years back, she was almost more of a one-off without a name. Around this time back then, I gave the vixen I'd drawn the name of Rachel, going for something charming to fit the shy dancer that she was. I think it's safe to say she's become quite the delight since those one-off-character days. Hehe.
So, yeah, August is basically Rachel's birthday month. ^^ Fun little tidbit that I thought I'd share before the month itself rolls around.

The passing of Doug Winger
Posted 10 years agoComing out of the woodwork mid-trip for a quick journal.
I've had friends keeping me posted when word got out that Doug had been admitted to the hospital. Since then, I'd been hoping to hear good news but it became more clear over time that it wasn't looking good. Doug had been an early inspiration to me in many ways. From being one of the artists who indirectly led me to join the fandom and doing more art, to being one of the first sources who helped inspire an interest in hyper themes as I kept revisiting his works over the years. And his sense of humor that he showed with his works in the various one-liner captions was something I really enjoyed, too. Sexy/sexual art that's also good for a chuckle. That's part of the reason why that overlap shows up in my own works as well from time to time. Being inspired by good ol' Doug Winger's art. Just wish I'd had a chance to meet him. From what I heard, he was just as entertaining a character in person as he was with his art.
Rest in peace, Doug. You may be gone, but you won't be forgotten. Give the folks where you are a good laugh like you did for us here, would ya? Here's to you, man.

Going on a trip -- art ideas
Posted 10 years agoSo, I'm going to be doing some traveling here soon. This is kind of a heads up that I won't be online as consistently for a while, for those who chat with me on places other than here. I'll still check back in to send messages, give updates, check my inbox, and such.
In the meantime, I was wondering if you guys wanted to suggest ideas or themes for me to draw when I have downtime in the evenings. (Keep in mind that these won't necessarily be requests, as reference access would be rather limited on my end. This is just to give me something to do instead of being bored watching television in the hotels) Just comment below and I can read them as I travel if I'm looking for inspiration for sketches. ^^
I'll try and also give little updates on Twitter as I wander (same username handle as on here, IdahoFox), so feel free to check there as well. I have ideas to do a sort of Roaming Gnome type of running gag to make things interesting, in addition to sharing any sketches I might do.
Anyways, should be quite fun, and I'll give a report once I get back. X3
