Terrorist attack in stockholm
Posted 15 years agoSo, yesterday evening we had what has been dubbed a "terrorist attack" in our fair Capitol Stockholm. Not that far from where my office is located.
A single suicide bomber got on a crowded street in the middle of the Christmas shopping rush and tried to detonate a bomb he had strapped to his body.
One person was killed ( guess who? ) and two people were lightly injured as the suicide bombers haphazard assembled bomb failed to detonate completely.
Media describes the man as a amateur and not a professional suicide bomber/terrorist ( They actually used that phrasing, can there even be such a thing as a "professional" suicide bomber? )
The government and the media are calling it a terrorist attack, but I think they are jumping to conclusions. This was more likely a depressed and disillusioned man who wanted to make a statement before exiting this world. Do I fear that we now will have to dodge crazy jihadist whenever we go outside or when walking down the streets of our cities? No. Do I believe that more Muslims in Sweden will be inspired by this one sad man who decided to end it with a bang and go out and commit acts of terror? No. Do I believe that this will cause right wing nut-jobs and neo Nazi's to go out and beat up innocent Muslims in Sweden, Yes. And that the government will use this as an excuse to enact the most stupid laws, Yes.
I think Sweden just became a little bit unsafer, not for swedes in general, but for the almost one million innocent Muslims living here.
Anyone who has Muslim friends or co-workers knows better then to believe all the fear mongering about Islam being a "evil" religion. It's a religion like any other, and just like the other major religions, it has it's fringes.

A dream job, if you can handle the pressure
Posted 15 years agoEver dreamt of working as a video game developer? A word of advice, be prepared.
Don't get me wrong, it's a kick ass job. Fun, creative and great co workers from all over the world. I'm having a blast at work almost everyday ( days when deadlines are stacking up, and software issues totally cripple you schedule excluded ) but now I know why developers always gives thanks to their wives/girlfriends ( husbands/boyfriends as well I'm guessing, but I have never seen that in a credit roll though ) for sticking with them during a project.
The pressure is insane at times. Deadlines are set at totally arbitrary dates by people who have no insight into the development progress. A 12-14 hour workday is standard. And you seldom feel that you have had the time to really polish your work till you're satisfied with it before it's yanked from your desk and shipped.
What I'm getting at here is that all my time is being eaten up by work at the moment, and I know I have commissions promised in the pipeline as well. I will try to finish them when my schedule lightens up a bit, but at the moment, I can't see that as a likely event in the foreseeable future.
