Livestream Times + Improvement + Cons?
Posted 8 years agoHey guys!! For those of you who aren't on from 7:30am-2:30pm Eastern, I've been streaming every day for the past few days on Picarto! I'm actually finding it's improving my workflow a lot and it's nice to have some company to keep me on my toes. :) Tomorrow I'll be streaming from 7:30ish-2:30ish as well as most likely at 6:30pm (eastern), so if you can't make it to my early stream, try to come for my evening one if that's something that interests you :3
Also had a bit of an art revelation recently and I can see it already making some pretty drastic improvements in my art (imo, anyway). I've started really taking the time to try and fix shit that's bugging me rather than comprising, whether that's via referencing myself, a pic, or just messing around with it until it looks right. I've found that taking the time to fix all those tiny flaws here and there really add up in the final piece. SO to ppl looking to improve, quickest thing is to just try to improve by studying things and applying them to a pic you're currently working on rather than JUST doing a bunch of separate studies and never learning how to apply them to your actual work flow.
ALSO also, been really wanting to try going to a big convention (next year obviously). What have your guy's experiences been with them? I was thinking about maybe Anthrocon or one of the bigger ones in the US. Just out of curiousity what does a day at a con typically look like from your experience? THX!!

I've recently updated my 'Commissions Info' tab, so form now on I'll be referring to that for what commission types I'll be offering along with their prices.
I've also made sure to include the 'disclaimers' at the top as it wasn't very accessible before, so check those out before commissioning me just to make sure we are on the same page! <3
I'm also offering one "STYLE WINGIT" slot if anyone is feeling crazy!! It will be a fullbody, fullshaded single character for only $65USD (a savings of $10usd), but the catch is that the combination of lineart and shading techniques will be randomly generated based off of THESE variations. So the art of your character will be totally fun and experimental.

Posted 8 years agoafter taking a leave from commissions for like 7-8 months I am feeling SO blessed to be able to return. I think that break was exactly what I needed because I'm coming back refreshed and somehow feel like I've made some pretty significant improvement in my art, too.
last time around I think I got so burnt out because I never gave myself an opportunity to draw for myself, but now that I've been incorporating personal art on a pretty consistent basis I am really enjoying the balance, and I think that enthusiasm is going to be evident in the quality of artwork I produce <3
just really wanted to thank you guys for being so patient with me and sticking around throughout my absence, I really appreciate it!! *hugs u all*

WELP just finished my last class of the school year so other than 2 exams I am in the clear. <3
This meaaanss that I am back open for business! I am going to start slow and get a feel for how much time things will take me to complete now that it's been a while and my method has changed a bit.
I am open for three painted mini-scene slots (as seen here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/22993460/).
You can choose between a full-body character with a simple background for $70USD, OR a bust (head to upper torso) with a simple circular background for $55USD.
**Prices are subject to increase if your character is overly complicated.**

Posted 8 years agoin regards to last journal thank you all for being so honest and patient with me and my never ending struggle between art and fitness haha.
I've actually come to realize that I love both art and fitness for the same reason-- the personal improvement. And the factors that made a career in fitness appealing was simply helping others improve and surprise themselves, and now that I realize that, art (and teaching specifically) just keeps making more and more sense to pursue. That being said I am going to continue school (as much as I am disliking it atm) and see what happens.
As it stands right now I plan on returning to commissions this summer and see how I feel when I'm actually out of class and actively doing art for other people again.*** HOWEVER!!! I highly doubt anyone is in the area but I'm seriously considering opening up a booth at Animaritimes this summer (June 30-July 2nd)!! It would be my first ever time at a convention so I will probably just do the one in Fredericton NB, but yeah, if you happen to be going, lemme know!***
Despite all the bumps in the road and uncertainty I still feel like I'm on the right path. I've missed you all so much ;w;; I return in need of a little advice
For those of you who know, I was a living off of commissions for around 4 years. It was great, but during that time I drew so little for myself that I became burnt out and lost my passion. I just didn't want to do it anymore, I was exhausted, as grateful as I was for the opportunity. I really began to question whether or not I was even a true artist.
I've been passionate about health/fitness for quite a few years, and I was absolutely convinced that this was the right path for me. I was going to go to school to pursue SOMETHING fitness/health related, and art would be a hobby again. Fast forward to now, I'm 6 months into school, and I'm questioning everything. I miss art, and just doodling as a hobby hasn't been cutting it for me. I'm itching to dive into studies and work on developing my art. I want to become good enough that eventually I can really be a competent teacher and share my progress with the world and I want to create work good enough that it gets featured in ImagineFX.
I'm just so unbelievably frustrated. I'm terrified that I've made the wrong choice to go back to school, and I'm terrified that if I quit then I'll regret it later. I have one foot in art and the other in fitness and trying to divide myself has left me feeling so incredibly exhausted, and it's effecting my grades and the quality of my artwork.
I know ultimately it's my decision, but I'm just so mentally drained, I would really benefit from a fresh perspective. Thanks so much in advance.

Posted 9 years agoholy moly I'm so sorry for the delay on commissions, I have had literally zero time LMAO... I wake up at 6am, get ready, go to school at 7 so I can study for a few hours before class, get out around 2pm, gym for an hour, and then literally spend the rest of the day trying to get caught up. I'm working really hard to try and get ahead a little bit so I can squeeze in some art-- hopefully by this weekend I'll be able to catch up with commissions.

Posted 9 years agoImprovement stage has been in full swing. Been working through the exercises from my lesson plans and seeing some progress already, and really falling back in love with art.
Going back to work in retail has reminded me why I stopped in the first place, though. I. Hate. It.
I forgot that working a job you hate is like working 8hrs a day and then coming home and being stressed counting down the hours until you have to go back. Feels like you are literally never off of work because even on a day off you've got that thought in the back of your mind "but you have to go back after this!!"
It's really just solidified for me that this isn't what I want out of life. Spending 8hrs a day constantly walking behind people and cleaning up shit so it can get messed up again later and selling people stuff they don't need is not stimulating for me and frankly it just feels like a waste of my time, I'm sure a lot of you can relate.
Honestly this whole experience has reminded me that even though there were days making art felt like a total struggle, it's still monumentally more satisfying than working a job you dread every day.
I worked out the numbers and it turns out I was actually making more money working with you lovely people than I'm making now, so I've really been considering quitting and coming back to commissions full time. Let the improvement stage BEGIN

incase you didn't read my last journal, I've recently got hired at Sport Chek. It's obviously not as pleasant as being a full time artist and working from home, but it'll give me an opportunity to meet people as well as allow me to work on my art in my spare time. I'll be discontinuing commissions for the next while except for occasional YCH slots that I'll be offering.
I'm incredibly excited to take this opportunity to develop my craft and explore myself artistically. Like I've mentioned in previous journals, I haven't really had an opportunity to do that without the guilt of incomplete commissions looming over my head-- not that I'm complaining. Being a full time artist for these past four years or so has been incredibly rewarding and I'm so grateful for the support you guys have given me.

incase you didn't read my last journal, I've recently got hired at Sport Chek. It's obviously not as pleasant as being a full time artist and working from home, but it'll give me an opportunity to meet people as well as allow me to work on my art in my spare time. I'll be discontinuing commissions for the next while except for occasional YCH slots that I'll be offering.
I'm incredibly excited to take this opportunity to develop my craft and explore myself artistically. Like I've mentioned in previous journals, I haven't really had an opportunity to do that without the guilt of incomplete commissions looming over my head-- not that I'm complaining. Being a full time artist for these past four years or so has been incredibly rewarding and I'm so grateful for the support you guys have given me.

YCH almost up.. ONLY OPPORTUNITY TO GET ART FROM ME
Posted 9 years agoHEY guys! So there's only a few hours remaining on my YCH HERE (the one on the right), and 2 more days on my Rave Girl YCH HERE.
As I was writing this I got a call telling me I've been hired at another job, SO I should make the announcement that I'll be limiting my commission slots just to YCH auctions for the next while. It will depend how many hours I get, but it may be indefinitely if I get quite a few because I plan on working while attending University in the fall as well and I really doubt I'll have much time for art then.
Once I complete my current queue (2 commissions worth, plus the three YCH), I will probably be taking a break altogether from non-personal work for a while except maybe for the occasional collab. It'll be a great opportunity for me to work on art for fun again without the stress of "I should be working on commissions instead", you know?
So if you're interested in getting art from me (especially in the near future), definitely check out my YCH's.

OPEN for Private Art Lessons!

You show me 3 images of yours you'd like me to critique, and I'll red-line and explain anything I feel could use improvement, and then customize a lesson plan for you based on your specific struggles. It takes about an hour and costs $20usd.
Alternatively if you want something more long term, you can decide how many weeks you'd like to study and I create customized lessons for you each week based on what you'd like to improve, assign you exercises for each week, and talk with you one-on-one to make sure you understand the concepts, answer any questions, and to critique/review your work at the end of each week. This costs $40usd per week.

Posted 9 years agoBeen a long time since I asked for feedback from you guys. I've been getting the itch to do something different, whether it's personal art or a different style of commission.
I've been thinking about making photography-inspired commissions, just as something different, wherein you provide me or I supply a photograph and I create a piece for you based on that photograph. Whether it's the atmosphere/mood, colours, or pretty literal translation of your character in that scene. Photography is a huge inspiration for me so I think it would challenge me to develop really cohesive scenes. Let me know if that's something you'd be interested in!
Otherwise, do you have anything you wish I'd draw/draw more of? Any characters or themes? Do you have any suggestions for different types of commissions/commission themes? Are you liking the direction my style is heading (more cel-shaded as opposed to soft-shaded)? Any feedback, positive or critical, are appreciated.
