Posted 10 years agoHI yes it's me talking about studying again i am a very exciting gal you see
just curious, what do you guys find most helpful.. studying one topic for an extended period of time until you get a decent understanding, or alternating between a few topics so you get a more rounded understanding?
I've been studying via the activities from my classes and it's been really helpful and increased my productivity but sometimes i'm like "i don't WANNA study proportion i wanna study FEET but that's not until next week" etc ~__~ how are you guys doing in your artsy journeys? any cool study techniques or activities you've been doing that you've found helpful? any tutorial recommendations? or anything really LET'S JUST TALK ABOUT ART

Video Editing Software????
Posted 10 years agoGOD I AM SO FRUSTRATED
i am trying to do the youtube video thing and I've got the .mov video file ready to be edited but apparently my computer doesn't meet the system requirements to use windows live movie maker (my processor is 2.20GHz rather than the 2.40GHz minimum) so downloaded the old movie maker v2.6 and that also doesn't work. NOTHING IS WORKING WHYYY
do you guys know of any FREEEEE video editors?? that aren't ezvid because while I can import the video, the stupid thing doesn't let me use my own audio in the video and it gets overwritten by their godforsaken sample music v___________________v

What would you prefer?
Posted 10 years agoHi c:
SO I really love to teach art... I actually think it's my favourite thing. I'm beginning to think that teaching is what I would love to do full time. I don't mean at a school or anything necessarily but offer private (online) lessons or I've been even thinking about making a Youtube channel (although I'm terribly awkward infront of a camera, so I need to work on that).
I find teaching helps me learn best too so it's really a mutual experience which I love. I just need to figure out the best way to go about it. I would love to hold classes (like I have with Anatomy, Value/Colour and then Composition this month) but I'm thinking I would either like something of a longer term (like 3-month long classes) or just really going indepth on subjects in a PDF file and making it look super pretty with a bunch of graphics and then selling those as individual packages or all together like a little book or something. What would you guys like?
Here are your options, I would appreciate if you voted! (several different options is ok)
a. Youtube channel where I post streams, tutorials, process vids where I talk about my process, etc.
b. Bunch of pretty and detailed PDF files on specific topics for you to tackle one-by-one so you're not just overwhelmed by the millions of tutorials/information found online. Can be sold separately or together in like an "e-book" format.
c. Visual tutorials, like a .png that I can send that contains images a little footnotes explaining the information. Could include anatomy tutorials, shading tutorials, a walkthrough of my process, etc.
d. Personal one-on-one lessons where I help you tackle on topic, price depending on how long you'd like to work together.
e. A 3-month long mentorship one-on-one.
Let me know what you think! :3

ART CLASSES... Start Next Week!
Posted 10 years agoHey guys! I decided to host next months class (after a lil break for personal studies) on Composition! It starts next Thursday, the 1st of October.
During the month of October, each week I will email you a course relating to composition. In these emails contains a bunch of information I've gathered, helpful resources, personal tips and techniques, and a variety of different activities to help you improve. The completed activities are sent back to me the following week and I give you personal feedback on what you're doing right and what you can improve on.
This course is going to contain information on how to place subjects on your canvas to effectively move the eye, how to use perspective and different camera angles to enhance the action in your work, and how to create compelling backgrounds.
If you are interested in learning more about Composition, the course is only $20 and it gives you access to a Skype group of fellow students. To join, send $20 to kaitycuddle[at]hotmail.com and include the email you'd like me to send the classes to.

Weight Loss Challenge!
Posted 10 years agoHi guys! So I'm usually pretty good about exercising and maintaining healthy eating habits, but my body's been in a bit of a plateau so I've been looking for a way to change things up a bit. I've got about 10lbs to lose so I've hit a point where my body is super stubborn.
I've found this really fun mealplan/workout plan on tumblr called the "One Month Makeover" which has different meals and exercises for each day, intended to be followed for a month (but repeated as much as you want). I'm normally pretty skeptical about meal plans and stuff but the progress pics looked pretty convincing so I took a chance and paid the $15 for it. :3 Looking at it now it looks really cool and easy (and not restrictive at all thankfully) so I'm excited to try it.
Anyway I just thought it might be fun to have some kind of group on Skype for a month-long challenge for anyone looking to lose some weight! You don't need to follow the same meal plan or workout regime as me, but I think it'd be fun to hear about what you guys are doing. It's not going to be strict or anything so if you lose interest or mess up I'm not going to judge you of course!! Just a super friendly support group.
If you're interested in joining, add me on skype (kaitycuddle@hotmail.com) and I'll add you to the group!!
If you are interested in trying the same plan as me, you can buy it for $15 here: http://fitness-fits-me.com/post/120.....month-makeover
(it uses weights for a lot of the exercises but it shows you how to make your own weights using a bookbag and stuff)
I'll be starting it on this coming Monday the 21st!!
also please DO NOT comment with your nutrition/fitness advice or telling me that there's no need to lose weight.

i am gonna snap omg
Posted 10 years agoedit: thank you guys so much ;w; this is literally the sweetest community in the world. I feel a lot better after venting (and having a mini breakdown) and I'm excited to try some new commission types next time I open!
lol i'm sorry i keep venting here but i literally have no one else to vent to about this stuff. v__v
i've been so FREAKING stressed for these past few weeks and i seriously can't shake it no matter what i do. normally I'm really good at managing stress and finding release but oh man.. I wake up in the morning and I immediately have this heavy feeling on my chest.
I just feel like I am wasting so much time. Even writing this journal I'm like "ugh there are a billion other things I should be doing" but my god I lack the motivation to do any of them because I'm just overwhelmed. I love my job. I love being able to stay home and make art for you wonderful people, but I feel like I've painted myself into a corner. I really want to get back into drawing humans. I love and appreciate furry art but it's not what I'm passionate about... but because it's all I draw, it's always what I get commissioned to do (naturally). Now I've been studying faces and human art but I must psyche myself out because whenever I go to draw something for myself, I just have.... nothing. I can draw it but I'm so fucking uninspired. I've been drawing other peoples ideas for so long that I've totally lost my voice and there's nothing more frustrating than staring at the blank canvas and having all my attempts at a great piece of art turn into scribbles. I still really enjoy drawing furries and I'm happy with my furry art on a technical standpoint but with every furry I feel like I'm getting further away from what it is I really want to do.
I can't even afford to take a break and do personal work or just step away from art entirely for a little while to let my brain chill the fuck out. I stretch, I workout, I eat right, I've been going out and trying to have fun on the weekend but no matter what I do that weight is still pressing down on my chest.
ugh. *curls up into a ball*

Posted 10 years agoHEY GUYS sorry about my absence dfsdfasd this past week alone it's been my stepdads birthday, my moms birthday, my boyfriends birthday and my parents wedding, and my brother came down from alberta for a few days (leaving monday).

I'm gonna try and get some work done today but I'm not 100% sure if I'm seeing my brother today or not. Either way, by Tuesday I should be back on the roll. goodness this month has been crazy between travels, art block and birthdays/wedding... so super sorry for the slow turn out of commissions.

ART CLASS STARTS TOMORROW + Check this artist out!
Posted 10 years agoHeya! Just a little reminder that my Shading/Colour class starts tomorrow. :) It's only $20 for an entire month! During the month, you get a new lesson each week, and you get a week to complete a series of small assignments that you can choose from. You can also join a dedicated art group for the class on Skype so you can interact with the other students.
I email the classes to you and include a bunch of must-see reference material. :)
(If you are interested but can't start tomorrow, that's okay! Just give me a heads up and I can email you everything you've missed and give you some extra time.)
If you missed last month's drawing class, I can send you all of the lessons for $15!
If you're interested, note me or comment here! <3

I also wanted to give

ART CLASSES... Start Next Week!!
Posted 10 years agoHey guys!! The next class is starting next Saturday (the 1st of August) and this month we will be studying VALUE/COLOUR! If you want to learn about how to shade your artwork, create interesting lighting and use colour effectively, note or comment here!
The cost of the course is only $20 for the entire month and you get access to 4 different lessons relating to Value/Colour that I send to you via email, personal review of your work by me, a chance to get promoted on my page, and access to a skype group of other students!
EDIT: FOR THOSE WHO MISSED PREVIOUS DRAWING COURSE.... I'm going to send out the entire 4 week drawing course for $15. I can still give access to the skype drawing group and review your work, but any "points" accumulated with the activities doesn't really matter. It'd be less structured so you could do the assignments in your own time instead of having due dates, but you still get all of the information and all of the activities.

Personal Work
Posted 10 years agoUGH... I've really been inspired art-wise lately. Studying a lot, really investing a lot of time into my classes, but for some reason it's not translating to personal work. I've been steadily doing commissions and I haven't done anything for myself for 6 months. Now when I try, nothing comes out. I just can't produce anything. I'm lacking both ideas and as soon as I know I'm drawing something for myself it's like I completely stiffen up and I can't draw anything.
My imagination must be completely rusty after just drawing other peoples concepts and characters for so long. I think I need to take some time to invest in personal work (mostly human stuff) and really start experimenting with styles and stuff again. How the heck does one improve creatively? I already use themes to generate ideas but otherwise I'm totally dry. I think I need to develop more characters and some kind of world or story that will keep my imagination moving along.
I might take next month off from commissions to focus on that. I might also just open a few slots for experimental pieces if anyone would be interested. UGH I HATE RUTS.

So you want to be a better artist...
Posted 10 years ago It takes a lot of work. It's like a constant seesaw of "yes, I'm finally getting better!" and "I'm not good enough". It's overwhelming to look at your own work and see only the flaws, and then to look at a superior artist and have it feel like that kind of level is just so far away. But it's something that exists whether you're a beginner or a working professional... there will always be a sense of inadequacy. What makes a good artist is whether or not that challenge scares you away or motivates you to become better.
What do you want from art? Be honest. Do you want to be a professional? Then you need to understand you're going to need to draw every. Single. Day. It takes 10,000 hours to become a master at something, so if you're serious about art, you need to be real with yourself.
Look at your artwork. What's wrong with it? How does it compare to the work of the artists you most admire? It's probably a daunting list... but take that list and you work through it one by one. It's hard and annoying and most of all frustrating, but when you look back six months down the road and see how much closer you are to achieving that level of artistic ability, it'll only fuel you to become better.
I know I'm certainly no master, but I'll get there. Just have to grind every day and chip away at that ten-thousand-hour block. So long as you understand that your goal is achievable, but whether or not you achieve it is entirely up to you. That mentality can be applied to absolutely anything you want to achieve in life.
/MOTIVATIONAL RANT
But seriously. If you guys really want to be better, you've got the entire internet at your fingertips if nothing else. Tons of tutorials at your disposal. If you need help with a path or some instruction, I do offer one-on-one classes and personal mentorship so I can help to steer you in the right direction, but it's up to you to do the work!
MWAH luv u work hard & take breaks don't be unhealthy about it

Art Classes STARTING TOMORROW!
Posted 10 years agoHey guys!
So tomorrow marks the first of a new month... and also the beginning of my very first group art class!
tl;dr it's a monthly email-group class that costs $20 a month. This month's topic is DRAWING. If you're interested in joining this month's class, comment/note me with the email you'd like me to use, and your drawing program (if any).
What is it?
The group class is broken down into three month "rounds". Each month focuses on a different topic: DRAWING, VALUE, and COMPOSITION. There are specific sub-categories in each topic that I will make lessons around weekly and assign weekly activities for you to try and show me at the end of the week. At the end of the week I'll privately email you a review of your work to make sure you're understanding the material.
It takes place entirely through an email group. I email the entire group the lessons, and you privately email me your completed assignments.
I understand where this is a furry art site that some of you specifically want to improve your furries, so while humans will be the main focus of the drawing section, I'll have alternative assignments for animals.
What if I don't care about some of these topics?
If you aren't interested in learning about Value, for example, you're under absolutely no obligation to sign up for any month you're not interested in. If you want to study Drawing and Value, you can skip Composition. All you need to do is pay $20 for the entire month of whichever topic you wish to study. I'll be making monthly announcements to advertise when the next topic is about to start, so don't worry about missing it!
What if I get in late?
If you miss the first week, for example, I can e-mail you the lesson to make sure you're not missing anything.
What materials do I need/how skilled do I need to be?
For July's DRAWING class, your materials don't matter. I might mention different techniques I use for Paint Tool SAI, but otherwise drawing can be as basic as pencil and paper. I do the majority of my own personal drawing studies in my sketchbook with a graphite stick. If you don't own a scanner, a picture of the completed assignments works just fine. It doesn't need to be excellent quality. :)
I'm going to try to simplify the topics as much as possible and really focus on the basics so that any level can benefit. If you struggle with the material however I'm completely fine with you emailing me so we can come up with an alternative assignment.
What kind of assignments are there?
Because I don't know each individuals time commitment, I've created a series of different assignments for each topic. Some are easier and less time consuming than others. There will be at least one assignment that I ask everyone to do, and the rest will be assigned a point value. The more of the assignments you do, the more points you'll receive. At the end of the month, whoever has the most collective points gets a promo in my journal :)
What happens after the entire 3 month round is completed?
I'm sure most of you realize that it's going to take you a lot longer than one month to become a great artist. At this point in time I plan on restarting the round every 3 months (making small alterations to the lesson and adding different assignments as I go along) so those of you who like the structured environment of a 'class' can continue to go through as many rounds as you'd like.
Let me know if you have any questions!

Vacation!
Posted 10 years agoHi guys! Going camping for 4 days so I probably won't be able to check messages or upload anything, so don't feel like I'm ignoring you if I don't respond! SEE U SOON
Art Classes/Mentorship OPEN!
Posted 10 years agoHEY GUYS! I was so excited to see that quite a few of you would be interested in learning from me. :) I've done a lot of thinking, and I've decided on three different tiers depending on what you'd like.
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED..... please either note or comment here letting me know which package you'd like to participate in. Feel free to ask if you have any questions!
STARTER - $20 - I speak with you personally one-on-one and review your body of work, offer you critique, and give you some guidance on how to achieve your goals. (approx. 1 hr in length)
GROUP CLASS - $20/mo I add you to an exclusive group via email where I create weekly in-depth lessons to guide you closer to your goals step-by-step. Every week I assign a small project on the weekly topic, and at the end of the week I review it. It has THREE PHASES, each taking a month in length.
PERSONAL MENTORSHIP - $100/mo - I have an indepth discussion to find out exactly what your goals are and together we create a game plan, and over the course of the month (or longer if you decide) I'll guide you through every topic with you one-on-one, helping you with whatever questions you have along the way.

want me to mentor you?
Posted 10 years agoHI GUYS I'm just drinking a coffee from my giant fox mug about to start a commission that I'm excited for and I realized I just hit 7k followers!! AGHH I am so thankful of all you wonderful people. I seriously appreciate everything <3 MWAH
on another note I've been experimenting with new styles and I think I've learned a lot from it actually. been really loving art lately yeeeyy. That being said, would any of you guys be interested in being taught by me? I could make a little lesson plan and kind of do my studies alongside you and offer you critique, share my techniques/tips and give you little assignments and stuff.
If you're interested, let me know! I would probably have to charge a small fee (whether it's a one time fee or a weekly/monthly thing, let me know what you prefer) just because of the time it'll take up, but I would really love to try! I could have a small class or something or just one on one sessions if you prefer. I need to workout details obviously but if I get enough interested I will make another journal and open up a class :)
If you could let me know how much you would expect to pay per month (or per lesson), and also if there's something specific you want to improve, I would sincerely appreciate it! <3 thanks so much guys!
