General | Posted 10 years agoI'll see you guys when I'm back! Just finishing the last picture now. If you haven't seen your image (one in particular! I've sent it to your e-mail!)
Thank you guys so much for letting me draw you guys this round and I'm off to take a few weeks break and spend time with my family. =)
Just so you know notes have been disabled here on FA so I don't come back to a load of "Are you open?" messages. I wont be open until I return home.
See you guys later! :D!!!

Back online for a few days!! And mail update!
General | Posted 10 years agoWhile waiting for the net to be installed, and being sick of using a dongle (USB stick that connects to the phone networks, thing) I'm at mom and dads for a few days house sitting, because why not. My "office" looks so sad. XD But huzzah! I'll be back at mine by next Monday as the internets being installed.
I can't believe its been over a month without being online normally and having to watch what I do with bandwidth. Hmph, I'm happy. Youtube subscription catch up here I come. (I'm a sad watcher - I watch organizing videos, cleaning and gardening things. >_>; )
EDIT: I should add to this, I have a few sketches I promise a few folks for the last batch of commissions. I haven't forgotten, I've brought all of my drawing equipment with me so I can do them while I'm here in the peace and quiet. =) Should be out this weekend. <3

Closed.
General | Posted 10 years agoEDIT: Two slots left and then officially closed and back to normal pricing once I reopen! Thanks guys!!
Evening guys! Just finishing the last of my commissions as I type this and I'll be reopening for new work tomorrow and responding to the remaining notes tomorrow as well.
I'll leave myself as "OPEN" officially now, BUT I wont be able to respond to anyone until tomorrow.
I am taking on Platinum Artist pieces at the moment. Normally they are £90 per image (GBP) but I am lowering them to £80 GBP at the moment due to my internet fiasco making it difficult for WIPs and back and fourth with commissioners with questions.
Easiest way to see a good list of platinums is to go into FAs Search area and search "Lapres Platinum"
Gives you a TON of them all in one area since I can't show you a folder or anything. D:
If you are interested in a platinum piece please message me with the following information preferably via NOTE at the moment instead of e-mail.
FA Username:
Paypal E-mail Address:
Character Name:
Character Species:
Sex:
Platinum One Word Theme:
Reference Image Link(s):
I use paypal invoice only - the price is GBP (Great British Pound Sterling) not USD or Euro. You are not officially on my art list until payment has been made.
Platinum images require no back and fourth, so it really helps me during this time.
I will take on other work as long as you understand my situation and don't need me to discuss an image with you. I don't mind doing a quote and saving the information, but I won't be able to continue the back and fourth to discuss what you're after, so short and simple - straight to the point is the best thing for me to follow. - http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/6717955/
It has my TOS, my price sheet and form for note.
Side Rant: We gave up Talktalk, with written confirmation of course, and moved to a smaller provider. Talktalk couldn't give us any answers and we've learned a ton about how the internet works here from talking about it with other providers and everything we've been told and promised through TalkTalk as a company has been a load of horseshit. They've dragged us around for weeks now with no actual updates, one empty promise after another and a number of people we couldn't understand who would shove us off onto someone else. How many times they said they'd either e-mail or call with an update on specific dates and nothing every single time. Our new company has given us an official date after logging into the database and booked us in properly (finally), we actually have a working account now that we can log into and view, talktalk just told us to check back later. At this point I'm just happy to have a date to look forward to.
Aside from that settling in really well. Incredibly happy with the house and pretty much completely set up aside from the net. We have things on the "to do" list but its all minor stuff at this point that can be done over the next year.
On well, enough text. TL:DR. XD
Thanks again guys for all of your comments and the help with the internet. It's been really helpful in discussing what to do and making the jump with confidence. Also a HUGE thank you to my previous batch of commissioners. You have all been incredible, very friendly and super understanding. I've got a mass batch of images to upload but I'll finally do that tomorrow once I'm back at the parents place.
Cheers lovelies!

Lappys internet fiasco - and Plat comms to reopen next week
General | Posted 10 years agoSo another update on whats going on. We're dealing with our chosen provider Talktalk for the internet here and they've been VERY hit and miss in regards to the internet. We luckily have it in writing that we were supposed to be fully set up on the 29th of June. No one from the company made any attempt to contact us aside from a text message that said it was canceled so we've called a number of times for an update and all we get is "You'll have an update on the 7th" then "the 13th" etc etc. So we called BT to order from them instead as our providers all use BT Openreach and the Telford area person is a family friend (hah who knew) and the gist is we aren't connected to the exchange. The houses are now wired but he can't do anything with out an order from the higher ups and BT finally gave us an installation date of the 31st of July. Needless to say I shit myself, but if thats the earliest BT can install, talktalk will be no faster. So we called to cancel talktalk and finally spoke to someone here in England who explained what was going on and compensated us with funds to put towards a decent internet dongle. I've tried to be as sparing as I could be just getting what information I needed to work offline and have been doing so last week until now. I'll still be hit and miss as this dongle needs to last until the end of the month, but at least it's something better than what we had. I've tried using my phone but I'm pay-as-you-go so I'm limited until it rolls over. T_T I feel like a crack addict needing their internet fix.
The good news is we're pretty much completely unpacked except like 2 small boxes in the garage. I have an office again! A real deal office! I missed this feeling since being up in Pudsey. Loads of space on my desk now for it to be a crafting space as well, so I'm stoked. ;_;
I have to apologize again to those waiting for artwork. I've gotten bits and pieces out today. The final three that haven't heard from me, your sketches will be with you by tomorrow and the last platinum will be finished shortly after. @_@!
With that, I should be reopening for work next week BUT due to the problem I'm having, I'll be trying to ask for only platinums as all I really need for that is a reference and a one word theme. Due to this, I'll be discounting platinum from £90 down to £80 per to hopefully gain some interest so I can keep working without too much back and fourth, so I'll be taking a few of those on.
I need all artwork to be completed before August 14th as I'll be totally MIA until the start of September from visiting my parents and boy in the USA. Only thing I could offer whilst out there is sketches and mail them out as I travel around via the post.

Move Complete - No internet but back to work
General | Posted 10 years agoHuzzah!
I'm using
slatons laptop with a dongle at the moment but its painfully slow. :( So please forgive me for not answering notes at the moment. I figure the best thing to do is to respond via a journal to everyone who is waiting for artwork.
The computer has finally been moved yesterday after getting a chance to reassemble the office furniture, it's still box-land in here and Ellis's computer hasnt even been touched yet. So I might not be quick to respond to messages just yet, or e-mails, or any form of contact that isnt now my phone. Theres been so much going on I havent been looking at it at all .
Overall it's been a nice week but absolutely hectic/manic/whatever word you really want to shove in here. Everything was finally moved out yesterday due to everyones time frames being different so its taken an entire week to finally make it. We lived here properly since Friday and been unpacking ever since. @___@
Two leaks to deal with but we're under warranty so I'm not too fussed especially since I work from home. XD! Just hope whoever does the job doesn't mind me drawing fuzzy animals.
So yes, even though the internet hasnt been installed (thats a whole different story of hell but at least we can be compensated) we should get up and running asap. Miss sold shit and what not. >:| Not ammused.
Back to work, back to art, so expect some art being fired out as soon as I can. x

General | Posted 10 years agoThe move has begun last Friday! What a birthday present, keys to a new house! XD
Through the hectic problems faced at ass o'clock on Friday with our sofas attempting to be delivered before we even had the keys to the place, I have a lovely scuffed wall and one couch taken back to the store. Totally a story in itself, not amused but it could have been worse!!
I haven't had any time to sit down until now (3 days after the fact) to attempt to respond to notes and/or comments left. I appreciate all of the birthday wishes, thank you guys! ;_;
As far as the house goes, floors finally being laid so I'm at the house at 7 in the morning. I haven't taken my PC up and I'm stuck between having to be at the new house while my work things are here at the old house. The office is slowly getting rebuilt and unpacked. The internet was supposed to have been installed today and Ellis got a text at 11 am, while I'm at the house waiting mind you) that they rescheduled due to engineers testing or some bollocks which would have been sorted already. We had a text a week ago saying all systems were go for the scheduled date, so quite a surprise on the day. -_- So we're putting some internet on his dongle and I'm going to be using his laptop to get my google docs up and can finally get back to work normally Thursday/Friday. Friday is scheduled to be the first day actually living there. ;^; 7 Months of planning and a few days to go.
I am extremely sorry to my commissioners, I've got sketches coming out of my ears at the moment (the hardest part is sketching, so I've tried to make that my priority so I can crank out line art and then colour them. I'm stuck at about a week behind how quickly I usually do things. :( I'll do my absolute hardest to get back on schedule, and try to compensate you guys somehow even if it means allowing me to mail you a goodie pack in the post as a token for putting up with me. T_T
<3
Tomorrow the floor should be finished being laid and then Wednesday we can finish the downstairs by sealing the floor. At least we had the option to save some costs by doing some of the manual labor ourselves. I guess it puts our mark on the place. XD
Besides that, I am so happy. Its really hitting me now that this house is mine, and it's not going anywhere. ;^; *Scream*

Start of the Changes!
General | Posted 10 years agoCommissions are still going as normal at the moment. One that I've worked on over the last few days has been finished but can't be shown for a bit! Couldn't finish todays yesterday so just did that one. Starting a few platinums Monday having to take the rest of today and tomorrow off to start packing as best I can.
The office I'll try to get sorted as fast as I can. We get the keys friday so it's going to be all over the place for most of the week (aside from Wednesday, I'm helping on a school field trip. Woo, screaming kids on a bus,) but I should be straight back onto work as soon as I'm home. @_@!
\o/ I'm still on time with my commissions as of now, so I'll try not to let this move get too much in my way, but I may need a few days next week to reset up the office/computer/internet system. ;__;!
I don't want to make anyone wait for anything, I'm impatient myself when it comes to art, so like I said, I'll do my absolute best to not let this affect my usual work flow. (I like to think I'm timely anyways, but I ALWAYS WORRRRRYYYYY.)

Lappys Brief Life Update!
General | Posted 10 years agoTo be honest this is just a small update on little things that I've talked about previously in various journals, to various friends and thinking about it just want to get things out there! And I needed a new journal anyways!
Family Update:
So, I found my mothers side of the family and the only person I felt comfortable enough with attempting to contact was her sister (who was present at my birth) and tried sending her a message through Facebook. I know she uses it because I may have stalked her page, but she never made any contact back. I'm just happy that I found them, saw what they look like, know that they're pretty good people so I can't complain.
Health Update:
So I've been to the doctor and made them do tests and tried different medication for how bad my tum can be. It was getting to the point I was getting so frustrated. It was happening every day and I've since been diagnosed as wheat intolerant (not coeliac) and an allergy to dairy. I always suspected that I had problems with both of them, but having done the elimination diet I'm doing alright! It's been interesting so far! All of the studying I've been doing about the digestive system and IBS sufferers, I highly suggest the low FODMAP diet. It's been helping a load of us. I've got my little support group and we're always bouncing off eachother.
\o/
General life update:
Off to the US in August! Mostly Northern CA with my parents and a day down in LA/Orange County when we head south again. Working on dates where/when and hotels. Mostly sorted.
Then house! House house house! I'll snap photos when everythings moved and do one of those "this is my office" things. XD I miss having a dedicated room to work in that isn't full of crap everywhere.
+_+) ITS THE FINAL COUNTDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWN

Outputt is having a Birthday art raffle!
General | Posted 10 years agohttp://www.furaffinity.net/journal/6800781/
Marking her own birthday, she's happily raffling off a piece of artwork tomorrow. She's a darling and is drawing for others rather than herself on the day. ;^;
Give her some love or at least say happy birthday!

Moving Update! - Commissions To Reopen
General | Posted 10 years agoGood afternoon guys!!
First, Commission Update:
I've been getting closer to the end of my queue. I took a few commissions privately on while I was at CFz, and I'll be seeing to those asap. I've been asked to do Anthrocon styled badges for the theme this year. I'll be offering those once I finish the background design. These will be DIGITAL ONLY for £30. Due to not having catered to another convention before aside from the ones I attend personally, I'd like to expand out a bit and get some other themes going for you guys! I was happy to be asked to do this one, so here's to a new badge type!
I've got one picture I'm shading, and two more to finish up, which I hope should be close to being done this weekend, if not Monday. I've taken a few pieces on while I was at CFz so I'll be doing those and reopening in the next week.
So.. this part leads into the next bit about moving!!
Second: Moving!
Should be moving at the end of June! Floors ready after shitting ourselves, and the kitchens ready. Just signing off at the end of the month and becoming a whole lot poorer. I've worked my ass off to save for this and to buy all of the things we need for a home, and we're finally there. I'm so excited to be able to do this, to finally have a home. My home. I haven't had that feeling since the last day I lived with my parents when I was 17. I'll be 31 the day we sign, talk about a coincidental birthday present. I fall to pieces whenever I start talking about moving, I don't know how I'm going to cope with signing and getting the keys put into my hand. Our poor lady who has been helping us through this entire ordeal is going to finally see me break face. I think those of you who have known me for many years will know how much this means to me.
I've got my home country. I've got a home. I've got a happy family life. I've got work I enjoy. I'm healthy and my stomach problems are being sorted (thank God for the Low FODMAP diet if you have IBS!!!!!) and all I can say is what a difference a year has made.
The life I had been living was so happy on the outside, but horrific behind closed doors and it had taken a severe toll on me that will now never be 100% fixed, but I don't want to fix it. My life has changed so drastically so quickly. I've really started becoming my own person. I've found the fashions I like, I've found past times I want to enjoy, and no one else is going to tell me what to do, how to do it and how to live any longer. I'm starting to be more talkative again, after CFz I really rekindled my love for the fandom.
All of this being said, with moving I have the internet people coming to set up, BUT I don't know when I'll be back 100% to arting full time as I'll be setting up an entire house. @_@ Loads to do, so if anyone is after time sensitive pieces, it may be best to pass on me this round unless youre an Anthrocon badge. I'll probably be doing those in one big batch once I get the design finished.
;___; Yay. I'm a happy Lappy.

Home from CFz!
General | Posted 10 years agoA pretty short message as I'm throwing myself back into the Commission grind! :D
Thank you guys for a FANTASTIC weekend!!!! It was a blast running around and being a nutter. Fantastic room party put on by the amazing
bhavfox, so sad it got moved but to know that it was moved because of Mark Knopfler, pretty cool. XD; He's a singing hero. Haha! Thanks for letting Ellis and I take part with you and for always being a darling to talk to! Have to meet up in London!
The amazing
resine for being one of my favourite people. He really made me feel welcome and loved. I absolutely adore that Snow Mew in and out of the fandom. xx Have to see you well before CFz next year. Once a year is too few. :(
Finally got to meet
xantouke IF YOU DON'T KNOW HIS ART OMG. He's fantastic. Seeing his work first hand, I'm super jealous of his skills. He and his partner Klone are lovely! Sorry it was such a short meet!!!
Thank you to
stefi_heartlilly
outputt
binturongboy
sketchkat
sewpoke to name a few artists that let me say hello. ;^; Thank you for the gorgeous badge Stefi, and the lovely gem/lavendar Katie! I'll sniff it until it loses its potency!! XD
I finally have the inspiration to finish the Kalin head after getting to suit for a little bit as Ellis and I really missed it.
Got to meet
scappo but I worry about verbal vomiting all over people. :/ He was really nice to talk to and happily picked up two books. Hopefully observing more artists styles will help me progress. I seriously am stagnant in my art and I need to improve significantly to even be near a level like his. LOTS TO IMPROVE. This is my goal this year once I'm settled back down.
A huge thank you to Wally, Ferdy, Hastur, Geo, Martin, Klouku, Al-Sox, Monkeh, Frostbite and Diago. Loved getting to see you guys. To my friends up in Leeds and my friends in Birmingham. For getting to spend some amazing time with Guy and just getting to be a derp. It was nice for a bit being a friend rather than an artist and that helped me immensely! I like being a friend first and an artist second, so its been lovely. x
Fioxy needs pictures of himself next year. I felt like I was missing something. :<
Also, congratulations to my dear
Wierdgoku on winning a Faruku partial! :D You deserve it my dear. xx
Only last thing to report on is the pup. Went in to be snipped yesterday so shes quite sad today. Time to pamper her and work at the same time. XD;

CFz Notice!
General | Posted 10 years agoI'll be away from the computer for the weekend. I won't be responding to notes/e-mails while I'm gone. I'll be back to a normal work schedule Wednesday the 27th. We're back home on the Monday, but Tuesday I have to go to the vet with Bailey as she's getting the snip, so readjusting the house to make sure she's comfortable and well pampered. Poor babe. x
Looking forward to seeing you guys there!

Reopening Thursday!
General | Posted 10 years agoSmall heads up! I'm on my last piece and will be working on it through the next few days as its a large piece! I'll be opening for more work for next week.
This is your LAST chance at a CFz themed badge for Confuzzled. I will only be drawing up to 6 of them on Monday/Tuesday and after that I will be drawing no more unless its digital only versions. They must be finished and mailed out so that they arrive in time for the convention as I am not taking badges with me for delivery unless we spoke about it prior - but at this point I will not be offering hand delivered services as I am not in the dealers hall this year and don't want people knocking on my door at silly o'clock asking for badges. Sorry!
Aside from that preferably taking on Platinum pieces, but will be taking on a few pieces for May. This month and next might be quite crazy financially so I need to pace myself as well as work my arse off as I continue my preparations for moving.
Slowly but surely getting everything I need (and have a room full of crap at the moment that I feel like I have to climb over to work on anything) as I wait for the move date.
So yes! Thursday! See you then! x

Want a Custom Kigu like Lapres Owl?!
General | Posted 10 years agohttp://www.furaffinity.net/journal/6697593/
Suu is opening Friday for new Kigus!! @_@ Her quality is second to none. I've had mine for two years now and its still like new. It's been through the wash a bunch of times and hasn't pilled or gone wonky. DEFINITELY worth the investment if you're after a custom Kigu.

Temporary Organizational Files
General | Posted 10 years agoThis is going to be fairly quick as I'm still trying to figure out the camera problem. :| I promised to get some files out so here they are with a short write up of each!
Commission Documentation Spreadsheet:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet.....it?usp=sharing
Time sheet:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet.....it?usp=sharing
Receipt Management:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet.....it?usp=sharing
These can be used across the pond on both sides!
Commission Documentation:
This is how I keep track and manage my commissions. I save EVERY image I'm referenced to my computer so that if FA/Weasyl/whatever website used dies I can still finish my work AND contact my commissioner. Why rely on a third party service and then blame them when you have the opportunity to keep your information yourself? It grinds on me when people get angry at someone else for their own actions. (Sorry, pet peeve.)
Save EVERYTHING. Invoicing helps the most, but thats for a different time!
Time Sheet!:
FOR THE UK ONLY (that Im aware of!)
This is a pretty awesome one if you're self employed in the UK. I'm not saying to get out of paying tax, but if you work from home (meaning you work in the place you reside, not you live in the work place - somehow thats different) then this is for you. There was equations on how to determine how much electric/water/gas you use but it's been simplified.
If you work a certain time a month from home you can claim for utilities and the rates are based off of hours used.
The flat rates are as of April 2015:
Hours of business use per month Flat rate per month
25 to 50 £10
51 to 100 £18
101 and more £26
*The flat rate doesn’t include telephone or internet expenses. You claim for these differently.
This means because I work well over 101 hours a month from home I can claim £312 against my taxes. I pay rent which pays for my utilities, space and lodging so its nice to know that some of what I'm paying can come off of my yearly expenses. So, in my opinion you really need to show how much you work through time management. Some people would say its a farce of a job and makes life harder on yourself, but if I get audited I can show them my time sheets, much like drivers mileage and show what days I've taken off.
Receipt Management:
This is a huge portion of my video that I'm working on. I have binders dedicated to managing my receipts, but this is the form I've worked out for my own personal use. Each month I put all of my receipts into a file like the one provided and it allows me to quickly see what my income was, my expenses and what they were for, and I place them in order that they are found in my monthly corresponding binder pockets so if I need a specific receipt to review, all I have to do is see where it is on my list and pluck it out, and put it back.
Any business related receipt... KEEP IT. EVEN IF ITS A PENCIL. Any business expenses (obviously within reason and aren't personal) can offset your taxes. Do things properly and if you get audited you don't have to sweat. Just because you're an artist and you pay tax doesn't mean you're safe from the tax man.
Other bits and bobs:
Coupons are your friend. I've gotten really big into finding deals for what I do for both personal and for business. As an artist I don't make a fortune and am floating just under the living wage here in the UK. I need to stretch my money farther and I do my best to get the best deal that I can. Sorry again for not offering trades, or requests - I just physically can't afford it as I have to live off of what I make, and its really not that much. If my calculation (I dont want to post that until I file) is correct I'll owe £600ish in taxes and National Insurance class 4. That calculation is a different ball game in determining how much you'll have to pay, so I'm trying to be careful saying anything until I know it works. I haven't seen it posted anywhere online in a clear manner and it took 2 months for me to finally crack it. >:|
There will be other things that I'll mention in the future, but this is the beginning! It'll probably make more sense later when I can properly show what I do, or confuse you more. Either way. :B x

Working on the Taxes/Record Keeping/Questions video!
General | Posted 10 years agoI've been trying to record myself on my phone and its out of space from two bits of the video I've done. Joy! Aaaaand its not connecting to the computer to allow me to delete them and wont let me open my gallery to do it myself!
I'll probably have to find an alternative to recording this. I've been compiling my documents for you guys so I hope to have some of the google docs made available today, and then the video explaining them will come .. well... after. >:|
I SHALL DEFEAT YOU, VIDEO!!!! *HUMPH*

What do you want to know?: UK Taxes and/or Google Docs?
General | Posted 10 years agoJust wondering if you guys want to know a few ins and outs of UK taxes for self employed people. I'm not a tax adviser but I've found a few interesting things that I'm not sure people are aware of that you CAN claim for if you do your records properly. I don't mind making a video of sorts showing a bit of my book keeping and how I manage my reciepts/files/etc.
Any specific questions you'd want answered for something like this?
And obviously NOT for UK taxpayers alone:
Artists!!
Also, I use google docs and invoicing to make my work streamlined. Would you guys be interested in any information like this? If so, what questions would you have so that I can better compile it to your needs? :O

My Beta UI Thoughts
General | Posted 10 years agoQuite liking it to be honest. I'm SO used to the light FA though, so wandering around in the dark is so foreign to me now. It's still simple enough to use, so I'm content and I'm enjoying the control panel being so accessible.
I think the only things I'm not a fan of is the placement of the advertisements at the top right of the page. It really takes away from the banner. :( I do have an ad blocker, but I wanted to see what it looked like without it on.
Not a huge fan of the notes section, rather, the overall size of the website. At 100% it just feels like font is too big, so taking the website to 90% feels just right for me and my eyes. XD;; I use a large screen, so its like "WOAH ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM" But yeah, I'll stick to 90% viewing! XD
Love the search function now. So much easier having a field to do a quick search.
Hiding of favourites - I always have mine hidden anyways. It just felt cluttered when I post stuff. I know it's bad to think of it this way, but hiding favourites now means people won't find other artists nearly as easily. Sometimes another artist catches your eye and you follow their submission to their pages. I feel like there will be less finding of others - I think its how I've found at least 1/3 of the artists I watch.
And lastly the parental advisory logo was great where it was. :< Now it's joined forces with the submission text box making it really feel unbalanced. I do like the keywords are sort of a border above the comments though!
Overall, happy with the new UI. I'll be sticking to the beta so I can get used to the functionality. New tax year, new website year! Heres to the new bits!
Cheers for making progress guys! x
-Lappy
Edit; If you follow scraps and go to "Next page" it takes you back to the "Gallery."
