Night in the Woods on PS4 - Major Mistake?
Posted 8 years agoSo I find myself really wanting to look into Night in the Woods now. I'm in a dilemma, however, because I would rather get it on PSN than Steam as I generally prefer playing things on console and I remember the days when it was going to be a PS4 exclusive. After looking around though I've seen some posts suggesting that the PS4 version of the game features an error which makes a bit of platforming impossible and thus makes 100% completion unattainable. Can anyone verify if this is true or not, and/or if the developers have acknowledged it yet and said that they'll be patching it?
What do you look for in my streams?
Posted 8 years agoNow that I'm in less of an existential crisis, I want to ask a more general question to my audience.
What are you interested in seeing in my streams? Or even the opposite, what might you not want to see?
Vote now on your phones.

The Commissions Strike Back
Posted 8 years agoIt's about time I get some more work flowing in.
This will be opening for ~15K words' worth of stories. There is a soft maximum limit of ~5K words maximum per client, but I may be open to negotiation depending on how busy things get. You can see some examples of such stories below.
Short scene stories (1-2k words):

Here's how the sign-up process is going to work: for the next day, until about 7 PM (EST) tomorrow, I will be open to receiving concepts for stories. To enter, comment below to state your interest, I will then go down the list one at a time and discuss the details in private. Please do not send me notes or other private messages about what you want or getting on the list until after I have responded to you on this journal. After the sign-up period is over, I will evaluate all of the potential candidates and choose which ones will make the cut for the final queue, based on the following criteria:
+How well the word counts fit together into the total amount I'm taking.
+New clients or clients who haven't gotten something from me in a while will receive higher priority, while those who have already gotten something from me recently may be less likely to be chosen.
+Personal preference on my part for whatever the subject matter may be, I'm more likely to be invested in a commission I find enjoyable after all.
Check my commission info for details on what I am and am not willing to do.
As always prices are $8 per 500 words (1.6 cents per word).
Stream work will be done in the evenings, please let me know if there's any preference for availability you have.
Also as a heads-up there will be some slight adjustments to my commissioning TOS, nothing major, just some clarifications that I feel were needed.

So about Learning Curves
Posted 9 years agoYou know. Learning Curves. That one sequential story I was doing years ago. The first MLP story I ever did. I know you all remember and care about that.
I've been in a rut about what to do with this story for a while. Part 4 has been roughly halfway done for a while now, I've gotten myself stuck at a point where I don't know how to continue without it feeling really dumb and contrived. The overall arc of the story is set in stone, but there are a number of details I'm uncertain about, and I'm still really uncertain exactly how to go about doing the fifth part. I've ended up putting the lion's share of development into a tangential side chapter.
I have a feeling that the story is going to need to be largely rewritten from the beginning. First and foremost, Terra Juno needs to go, I shouldn't have a character like that and she only serves to muddle the narrative. The problem however is that at that point I don't know how to put the rest of the story together, the setup for Rarity being put in the situation she's in requires Terra Juno or something of similar power, of which canonical options are limited. It would have to be a completely different situation, of which I know I had other options back when I was planning out how I wanted the story to go but by now I can't remember any of them.
It would probably be better to just drop the project, lord knows I have a bunch of other things I need to work on that ought to be higher priority, but I don't feel like I can do that at this point with how much time, effort, and emotional investment (not to mention money) I've put into it. I'm open for suggestions on what can be done, I know that there are plenty of people who were interested in the story as well, and I also know there were plenty who had their criticisms, I'd be interested to hear anything that could help.

There didn't seem to be a lot of interest this round, I would guess that there's less interest in shorter stories by now after running through most of the previous applicants. I think next time I will have to properly open for 5k stories, depending on how things go I may do that immediately after this round.
ALSO another note that
show~time is taking story commissions too and does even more extreme things than I'm willing to do!
ALSO ALSO in light of that notice about server maintenance and being wary of the possibility that things might not go according to plan, I'll make an advance announcement that later today, around 6-7 PM EST presumably, I'll be doing my usual stream, come by for spoopy Halloween stuff.

The Future
Posted 9 years agoI've been struggling for some time now to manage some acceptable form of income, I have yet to acquire any sort of proper job irl after graduating, which is something that I need even more now that it looks like I'm probably not going to be going for a master's degree. My current income with commissions is a fair amount, but the fact of the matter is that it quite simply isn't enough to make a living off of. I can manage a good pace with writing work, but I need to be opening up and doing a lot more than I currently am if that's going to amount to anything worthwhile, and I'm not sure if I even would want to do that because that would leave almost no room for me to work on anything for myself. I started doing coloring commissions as a way of alleviating that somewhat with a secondary source of income, but interest in that has proven to be extremely limited and I only have a handful of returning customers.
I have considered the possibility of other forms of receiving funds. Patreon seems like too much of a burden, I don't know what I'd offer as rewards in return and I don't think I can trust myself to work often enough to meet a regular schedule of content. The next best option would be exclusive paid content - I wouldn't want to put everything I do up behind a pay wall, but I thought of the possibility of a few special projects that would be used for story packs that can be bought. I want to try doing something like this, at the moment I'm only struggling to think up proper ideas and get the motivation to work through it.
I will probably be opening up for commissions again in the imminent future, and I will be attempting to make it a fuller round without as many of the limitations as before.

Rain check on work stream
Posted 9 years agoUnfortunately I think I'm going to have to call off the work stream I was planning on doing this afternoon, between a rather lackluster mood and being exceedingly tired I don't know if I'm in the best position to write on camera for an extended period of time, and it's looking likely that I'm going to be dragged out to dinner with my aunt and uncle that will no doubt eat up well over an hour.
For my current clients, please let me know if there are any alternative times you would be available to come see your commission in progress. Tomorrow is going to be a normal stream day for me so that's going to be unavailable, starting on Sunday hopefully I should be free and ready to do anything again.

Let's try commissions (CLOSED)
Posted 9 years agoSo I need a little extra cash quickly, and with coloring commissions still at a minimum I think it's about time to attempt to take some normal writing commissions.
This will be opening for ~6K words' worth of stories. I'm working my way up gradually to more complicated plots but let's keep things relatively simple still with just ~2K words maximum per client. You can see some examples of such stories below.

As always prices are $8 per 500 words (1.6 cents per word), HOWEVER I am offering a special deal for this round: with Lugia Day coming up on Saturday, I am offering a 10% discount on stories that feature a Lugia character in some form. It must be a major role, you can't just have them as a cameo and get the discount. :v
I will likely be doing a stream to write these stories on this Friday, September 23, in the afternoon, it would be preferable if you can be available for that time, if not then be sure to mention it to me after you have been confirmed and we can discuss an alternative date.

Commission Stream Tomorrow
Posted 9 years agoTomorrow however I will be doing another work stream for taking on-the-spot writing commissions. These are ideally meant to be short and simple scenes, roughly 500 words at minimum, up to around 1000 or 1500 at the very most, priced at $8 per 500 words. See recent examples below:
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/20580202/
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/20654222/

I only plan on running for about six hours so I will initially only be taking three spots, but if there is sufficient time after those I may take more. Please have some semblance of an idea ready beforehand, you should have plenty of advance notice to think of something. :v I may start in the early afternoon around 2 PM EST or so, but if it's preferable to most I can push that back to the evening. You MUST be present in the stream in order for me to work on your commission.
Ask questions if you have any.
Something Different: On-The-Spot Commission Streams
Posted 9 years agoMy ability to get myself to write has still been extremely limited as of late, the most I've been able to do in short bursts is work on profiles using extremely unorthodox narrative styles. I really want to get back to doing commission work but I don't really know if I can trust myself to do anything more than very short and simple projects. Something I'd considered doing for a long time was streams specifically for taking commissions which would ideally be done during the span of the broadcast. Given both of these prerequisites this would require that all requests taken during this period would be very simplistic, only 500-1000 words or thereabouts (which would translate to $8-$16), basically a single simple scene featuring one character, maybe two. If I were to do something like this, I would also have to be somewhat picky about what commissions I decide to accept, because the most important thing is that something catches my interest enough for me to keep myself motivated. I would consider hosting one of these streams soon if there's enough interest.
Additionally: Commission Info
Posted 9 years agoI have now finally gotten around to consolidating as much of my commission policy as possible in the Commission Info tab on my page.
Now I just need to make one of those fancy images for detailing how I price my coloring.

Query: Posting coloring work done for others
Posted 9 years agoSo I've been posting a lot of the pictures I've colored as of late. Thus far, however, all of the pictures I've posted have been things which were done expressly for myself, I haven't posted anything which I colored for other people as I have on Derpibooru. What would you all think of me posting pictures which I was commissioned to color, or things I just decided to color of my own whim which weren't my own?

Tablet: A whole new realm of possibilities! (Com-related)
Posted 9 years agoSo a little while ago I finally got my hands on a drawing tablet which I've been practicing with and learning the tricks of the trade in order to make my art quality better. A major part of this is that I hope I will finally be able to do inking more reliably, and this will allow me to have them as a full fixture of my coloring commission work. I am considering charging $10 per character for inking a sketch, although I may necessitate more if the drawing is particularly complicated, or if the original sketch is especially rough and hard to work with. As with my writing commissions, this is something that will require me to go through a number of bumps along the way so my policies are likely to change over time. So if you want to get something, it's probably best to get in sooner rather than later; for all you know the prices will get more expensive later on. :p
Thank you to everyone
Posted 9 years agoI want to thank everyone again for the birthday wishes that have been offered to me throughout the day, I appreciate each and every one of them, and in general for the support which you provide to me on a daily basis by perusing my content here. Today (well, yesterday) marks seven years of me having an account here on FA, and just a little earlier this week I also at long last achieved the milestone of 1000 watchers. There have been ups and downs along the way, but let's look forward to continuing for as long as possible.
Big Stream(s) Tomorrow
Posted 9 years agoTomorrow I plan on doing some particularly big things. The events will start sometime between 12 and 1 PM (EST) and then go for roughly six hours until I have to leave for dinner, then it will be continuing whenever I get back.
Journals will come up at the appropriate times to announce again.

Regarding prior journal: tags and thumbnails? And site stuff
Posted 9 years agoIn response to the previous journal I posted, I appreciate the feedback, and the understanding even from some viewers who aren't fond of all of the things I've been posting. The overall thing that I take away from it is that it's simply important to make sure that people know what they're getting into, not to have any unpleasant surprises popping out of nowhere. I thought that it might help if I had some more thumbnails to put on submissions - including images - and make them more detailed, just to have little blurbs to say what kinds of content are going to be involved. Only problem with this though is that I know it doesn't work for images unless you're looking at them on the front page of a gallery, not when it shows up in your message inbox, which is kind of the most important point. Does anyone think that it would still be worth going through this even with that limitation in place?
Also regarding the problems that have been plaguing the site as of late, I'm still not leaving FA anytime soon - mercifully I didn't lose my account - but given how things have deteriorated it's abundantly clear that one needs to have backups. I still have my tumblr that I never use http://nonuberis.tumblr.com/ but in the event that FA dies again and I haven't specified anything else I will probably be there with new content or updates.
