Posted 17 years agoI'm actually getting into anime.
If you know me in person you would (Or likely wouldn't because I never tell ANYONE) know that I have a secret disdain for anime groupies and their ilk, and of course the subject of anime itself is often caught in the crosshairs of my disapproval.
HOWEVER. Lately I've been seeing a rather radical change in my behavior. A week ago I bought a manga from Barnes and Nobles called The Third. Watched Utawarerumono and Elfen Lied when my friend lent me them. And just today after I helped him move some SHIT I decided to watch Gravion Zwei (I saw boobies on the cover and we had nothing else to do so I COMMANDED him to put it on at once). This striking course of action on my part may have several consequences, including disrespect for myself in falling in with something so common these days (Though the sage Lin Chi once said "If you despise the ordinary and live the sacred, you are still bobbing in the Sea of Delusion," and now more than ever do I feel the truth in his words), AND some of money may be poured down the drain to sate this new interest.
That said, I believe there may be some pro's to this recent event, chief of which would be that my art would improve through constantly watching characters drawn in a style that may compliment my own, however this may not be that great of an achievement since there are quintillions of professional anime style artists out there and I would not be innovative in the least.
Regardless! Drawing better for myself is always a good thing, and since the ammount of kemono-influenced artists out there have yet to make a dent in the armor of popular culture, I can still feel as if I'm on the tip of the spearhead.

What do you want me to draw!?!?!
Posted 17 years agoOk, so as of right no I lack inspiration, but I want to keep practicing with what time I have left. So we're doing this the hard way, tell me what you want to see! I'll probably do like a dozen sketches on a single canvas just to practice.
It can be anything guys, but avoid anything simple, I want to improve. It can be a species, a gender, a type of clothing, a class from an RPG, an object, a titty, an original character (I smell alot of these for some reason), I just need something to do!

I just can't get faces down....
Posted 17 years agoGuys, do you think the heads and faces I draw are decent? I mean, not in relation to what other people draw, but relative to how well I draw other aspects of anatomy and whatnot? They feel like the most strenuous part to draw for me, even in the sketching stage they always feel off to me.
I don't know what it is :P

Commenting on this journal will cause me to:
a) tell you how I know you
b) associate you with something - fandom, a song, a colour, a photo, etc.,
c) tell you something I like about you,
d) tell you a memory I have of you,
e) ask something I've always wanted to know about you,
f) tell you my favorite pic of yours,
g) in return, you must post this in your journal.

Totally random, but it gets me mad...
Posted 17 years ago...when people (Usually who know me to at least some degree) threaten to beat me up after I do something (Disregarding the just value of my actions....those are unimportant). That in itself isn't wrath-worthy, but when they go on to say "Ok dude I know you practice Kung Fu, and I know you won't go down without a fight, but if you ever do that again I will find a way to kick your ass."
Ok, so let me get this straight, anger > years of training, pain, skill and hardship? Right, I got ya, keep talking n00b.

Animal cruelty, fur farms, etc.
Posted 17 years agoOk, I was scowering YouTube, and I stumble across some general animal cruelty PETA vids, among which was a segment on fur farms, places where animals are quite literally skinned alive and left for dead. Being in the furry community, I'm sure we all have at least a slightly above average sympathy for our lesser cousins. However, reading the comments on the videos I begin to see more hatred among the people who are supposedly against such horrors than the people actually holding the knives. Now I'm not saying I wasn't appalled or didn't nearly lose my lunch from watching the videos, nor am I defending those skinning the poor creatures, I instead simply would like to state that I believe the hatred many of us would often cultivate towards such people is the wrong attitude to approach this matter with.
Understand that the people in the video are not necessarily heartless (At least I don't believe there's an industry in this world geared towards hatred), but are instead simply trying to make a living in a morally devoid way (Again, by our Western/developed country standards). Yet the wealth they gain from such a business COMES FROM THE WESTERN POWERS. Ironically enough they probably resort to such quick and easy money because their countries were stopped from growing and improving internally by WESTERN imperialism in the earlier days.
I see nothing but far more cruel threats coming from the "pro-life" individuals than are actually committed towards the animals. Although I don't necessarily believe killing begets killing, I do believe that killing people who are just doing their job for the sake of your beliefs and values will get us absolutely nothing but more killing. Besides, as a priority we should not value the lives of lesser animals than the lives of our fellow men.
Basically, I don't think we should approach such problems with malice in our hearts, but instead try to get these people to understand that in this day and age the lesser beings of our world need not die needlessly anymore thanks to modern innovations (100% cotton). The time of living off the land is essentially gone and such cruelties should not exist on such a massive scale. Early on I think it should at least be made illegal in most countries (Yes, you too China), this would at least hamper this business of death until, hopefully someday not too long after my lifetime, appreciation and respect towards the history and beauty of life will be instilled into billions more people than exist today.
If I can invigorate the compassionate spirit inside at least one person with this rant, then it will not have been in vain.
With respect

I'm feeling like....
Posted 17 years ago"Once there was a Nightingale,
with no voice at all to hail.
Other birds would laugh and sing,
while she cried behind her wing.
One sad day she flew away,
to the woods alone to stay.
Lost there was a little boy.
Seeing him home again would bring her joy!
Silently gliding she led from above the trees.
He followed her with ease.
To the forest edge.
There a hunter saw the bird.
Aimed his gun with nary a word.
Shot her down from out of the sky!
And the boy began to cry.
He returned where he'd been found.
Laid his friend within the ground.
Since he made that noble choice,
he was blessed with with a fine singing voice!
From within, came to him, the Nightingale's voice."

Considering Leaving
Posted 17 years agoSo I've been thinking about alot of things as of late. Chief among them is why do I even draw in the first place? Specifically in the furry fandom.
Lately I've been at a serious lack of artistic inspiration of the visual variety, and I've been trying to figure out why. Honestly, I feel as if I'm not getting from the fandom what I had originally intended when I became a more blatant member of the furry community. Let's be honest, I learned of furries when I was around 14 or so, and my interest in it peaked at around 15 or 16. Being male, I'm positive I was very hormonally influenced and soon after became a stereotypical yiff addict. After hobbling around the community, I came to the realization that many members would often have their character(s) engaged in sexual activity with the character(s) of another. It seemed like a free trade, something that I just HAD to be a part of, and being the teenage virgin I was, I was immediately intrigued.
That fantastic ideal never became a reality for me.
It seemed that, in order for such events to happen, one would have to flirt or hint or ask around constantly and towards a number of different people to make those things happen. Or one would have to pay cash or return the favor with a drawing of one's own. Not having an online bank account and no real friends who would do such a favor unto me, I decided that my last remaining option was to learn to draw. So I spent hours and days and weeks figuring out just how to create those magnificent pictures I'd seen so commonly around the net. And to a certain degree, I succeeded. Then along came Yuuri (As I'm sure so many of you know) and I suddenly lost interest in the glorified free love of the fandom, and embraced whole-heartedly my monogamous relationship. Unfortunately, after a year and a half or so into the relationship, I began having desires for my original purpose in the fandom; To, essentially, get laid in pictures. Of course this did not fly so well with Yuuri (And I honestly do understand why), though I was selfishly motivated at the time and as such her restricting me from asking for such pictures from other artists angered me.
So, after several not-so-glorious years I've come to this point, and this question: Am I in it all for the wrong reasons? Is my once-believed passion for art just an immature little desire for something incredibly inconsequential? Admittedly I did get rather good at drawing, far better than I possibly imagined, but it just doesn't feel....passionate to me. So now I believe I was in it for all the wrong reasons, and being in the honest and respectful relationship I am in (Ignoring a mistake I made rather recently), my original fantasies can NOT become true if it is to be maintained, or if I even wish to maintain my own sanity.
A spot of good news, however....check your local book store in 5 or 6 years, you just might happen to see a familiar face :)

Happy Birthday to Me!
Posted 17 years agoYup. 19 now, though I still feel like I'm 18 and I'm far too lazy to go around changing my profile to say I'm 19. Anyways. Went out to go eat at Red Robyn's and I had people sing me Happy Birthday and they gave me ice cream! Hahahah it was great. Got a 108 Mala as a present from my parents, it's really cool and it's more compact than the one I have now, so now I have something a bit more conservative to wear in public. Had some friends call me and wish me happy birthday too (well one anyways, and Yuuri sang to me last night at like 1 in the morning so she got that taken care of lol.
All in all, this was a good birthday.
All in all, this was a good birthday.
I'm such a n00b.
