RDR Spoilers
Posted 15 years agoSo I finally beat red Dead Redemption, and I'm not happy. Jack Marston is a sorry replacement for his father. He still has that annoying teenager voice, he doesn't have anywhere near the presence his father did and, worst of all, he's mean to my horse. I went through hell to get that horse to the end of the game, and I'll not have some longhaired pissant calling him names and yelling all the time.
Attantion Artist's Alleygoers!
Posted 15 years agoWhich of you will be selling prints at AC this year? I'm curious :)
Just Curious
Posted 15 years agoIf, hypothetically speaking, I were to start selling prints/HD downloads over on Inkbunny, what pics would you folks be interested in seeing? I'm curious as to which ones people have a soft spot for :)
Je suis un crétin.
Posted 15 years agoMy old keyboard needed replacing, so I went out, picked up a new one, brought it home...And it;s too big for my setup, the shape hurts my hands, and it's in French. Fantastique.
A Con Question
Posted 15 years agoYou're at a con, browsing Artist's Alley. You spot an artist you don't know selling single prints. How much do you expect to pay?
Cougars are the Devil.
Posted 15 years agoAm I the only person out there who goes out of his way to keep their horse alive in Red Dead Redemption? I like my horse; he's fast, he has a different colour than most other horses so I don't steal one by mistake. I like the thought of "My horse."
I think the game disagrees with me, though. Horses can take almost no damage, and the game seems to be treating them as more or less disposable, despite the little loyalty mechanic where the longer you've had a horse the faster it can go. This is becoming a serious problem now that I'm up in Rio Bravo looking for red sage, which sucks because that's cougar country. I'll fight a whole pack of wolves before I'll fight a cougar, because wolves have the decency to announce their arrival. They don't shoot out from under a bush, run beneath your horse so you cant shoot them, cut your horse's legs out from under it (killing it and wounding you), then swinging around for the kill, all without a sound.
So yeah, am I putting more narrative weight on the horse than I ought to be? Am I right to be reloading a save every time it dies, or am I supposed to suck it up and skin it like I do any other dead animal?

Honor -50!
Posted 15 years agoAm I the only one who can't get used to the second level of Dead-eye, and keeps accidentally hitting the good guys because the game is painting targets on anything that moves?
Looking for a 3D model
Posted 15 years agoDoes anyone know where a dragon can find some good human models? I'm looking for something in the 1-3000 polygon range. I found a couple on Turbosquid, but they all use triangles and I find those a pain to work with.
Ow, my brain
Posted 15 years agoThe reading of fan fiction is always a risky prospect. I typically have to be really desperate for a continuation of a story before I consult the amateurs. I'm talking about serious stories, not porn lemons, which hold a special place in my...heart. <_<
You run into a lot of problems with fan fiction. Three quarters of them revolve around really obvious author surrogate characters who swoop in to fix everything the author didn't like about the story, or taking two characters who never so much as spoke and making them date. But there's another level of madness, and it can be found in bad Temeraire fan fiction. Because not only do you get all the normal trappings of bad fan fiction, you also get the authors butchering the nineteenth century English. Most of them end up sounding like someone ran over a copy of Lord of the Rings with a monster truck.
And dammit, not one of them involves dragon porn, and that's all I'm really looking for anyway :P
PS- Fanfic reading pro-tip! Try to avoid any story where the summary contains any of the following:
1. Blatant spelling errors, especially mistypings of the characters' names.
2. An apology of any kind. If you feel the need to apologize for a new piece of artwork, you need to go back and fix it.
3. A description of the original plot transplanted into a high school. It just...it never works.

Is anyone else staring at an empty inbox while FA tells me I have one unread message?

See You at the Party, Richter!

Why didn't anyone tell me??!?!

A Probably-Hypothetical Question.
Posted 15 years agoSay the apocalypse happens tomorrow, 2% of the population is left. What's the best way to contact other survivors? The internet won't stay up for long. Phones are useless without a number to call. Morse code? Smoke signals? A megaphone?
A silly question.
Posted 15 years agoWould Carl Sagan and HP Lovecraft annihilate each other on contact?
Attn: Hollywood
Posted 16 years agoHaving an all-star cast won't help you if your entire movie is nothing but a setup to make Ewan McGregor say "I don't understand this Jedi stuff."
Things actually need to...you know...happen.

God, what a boring movie.

Posted 16 years agoBorderlands - Any Port in a Storm
Posted 16 years agoAm I the only person completely unable to play multiplayer on Borderlands? This always seems to happen when I try to play a game over Gamespy. I went to Portforward and followed all its instructions on opening my ports, but it didn't work; even if it did, that's an awful lot of work to play a game.
So I'm hoping that there's some simple, elegant solution that I've missed that doesn't involve opening all my ports and exposing myself to the ravages of the internet. Any suggestions?

RSI Sucks
Posted 16 years agoRepetitive Strain Injury is the worst thing ever. I hate it I hate it I hate it. Every time I think I'm recovering I have a relapse, and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I just want to know how to make my hands strong and healthy again, and how to keep them that way. Is that so much to ask?
That is NOT what a particle accelerator does!
Posted 16 years agoI am pleased to place the GI Joe in the "So Bad it's Good" category. I had a lot of fun with this movie, and even though huge chunks of it make no goddamned sense, you can at least tell what's going on. I look forward to the Rifftrax.
Damn You, Anthrocon!
Posted 16 years agoCon Crud.
I thought it was a myth. A tale told to frighten children. I attended AC last year and escaped without so much as a sniffle.
Not so this year. I've been in bed for three days, trying to breathe through clogged sinuses and doing my best to not cough up a lung.
Next time I drink less coke, more OJ :P

Yet Another AC Report!
Posted 16 years agoGot back from AC last night. Had the good sense to fly instead of driving halfay across the country this time, even thought I'm pretty sure I got hosed on the ticket price.
It's very strange. The whole con was such a departure from mt usual routine that now that I'm back it seems more like a long, vivid dream. Still, though, it was awesome. This poor small-city dragon suffered pretty severe overload when I attended last year. This year I was unable to actually put some names to some faces and have them stick. I got to hang out with some awesome people and you all know who you are. I'll be keeping in touch :)
It's strange to think that I've been home for more than a day now, or that the con is over so quickly after months and months of planning. The normal routine feels weird after a five-day party :P
By the way, could anyone who I did art for in the Alley please send me scans? I was really pleased with the way a lot of it turned out, even the one where I screwed up the genders of the characters :P

AC Travel Plans
Posted 16 years agoI've accepted that I'm apparently the only fur living in Moncton :P However, is anyone else arriving in Pittsburgh via the 9:45 flight from Toronto on Wednesday? I doubt it, seeing as it's a full day bfore the con starts, but I didn't get much of a chance to see the city last year :P I'd still love someone to hang out with, though :)
Failing that, I imagine there will always be people who need a hand setting up :P

Printing question
Posted 16 years agoDoes anyone know a reliable way of counteracting the darkening thaat occurs when you print a piece of digital art? If worse comes to worse I'll just use a Levels layer or something, but I'd prefer something a little more surefire.
On that note, what prints would people be interested in seeing at AC? (Anything but commissions)

Posted 16 years agoIf Iron Man went supersonic to get away from that missile, wouldn't he have outrun the shock wave from the explosion?
You know what sucks?
Posted 16 years agoRepetitive Strain Injury sucks.
I blame the new desk, but I was rawing one day and I got this burning sensation in the back of my hand, then intermittant pain and numbness all over my hand and forearm. I talk to the doctor and he advises me to use it as little as possible until it gets better (Being an artist, this was a problem. Still, better than Carpal Tunnel).
It's been three weeks of tiptoing around my right hand now, and I'm going stir-crazy. I can barely draw or type, and I only have so many movies to watch, you know? Fortunately, it's improving steadily, and I imagine I'll be in workable shape for AC. Just thought I should let you all know where the productivity went :P
