Kyatto Ninden Teyandee (AKA Pizza Cats) DVD Review
Posted 12 years agohttp://www.discotekmedia.com/kyatto.....n_teyandee.htm
This is the original Japanese series "Samurai Pizza Cats" was made from. SPC didn't translate Kyatto Ninden Teyandee, but rather made new dialogue to fit the animation, which came out damn funny. An SPC DVD set will be released later, but right now this the original KNT on DVD with English subtitles. Never heard of either of these? Well it's furry anime, so if you like furry and anime, you'll probably like this.
The quality of the video is everything I hoped for. Considering when KNT was made (1990-91), this is as good as it gets. There's no point in going blue-ray for a 20+ year old anime made with hand painted cels. For that alone it's worth the price. If not for this set released by Discotek Media, I would have bought the Japanese release DVD set for a higher price with no subtitles and (I assume) limited to my region free DVD player.
The subtitles...they aren't the best, but far from the worst. I know enough Japanese to where I'm frequently catching the little changes and saying to myself "that's not what they said!". But, really it's close enough. If you don't understand much Japanese you'll never notice. You can follow the story, and the subtitles might not be exactly what was said, but it is usually what was meant (or something close). I guess "Teyandee!" can mean "Listen up!" or "Jebus!" depending on the situation, and "Sukashii" does sound like "Skashee".
There was a glitch with the first release where the subtitles on episode 9 shifted one line early, but the affected disc #2 is being replaced by Discotek Media for free to everyone who bought the first release. The DVD set is currently sold out, but it will be back and the second release will have that error fixed.

This makes my whole year. it even makes up for some of how much last year sucked. I'm a happy bunny.

October 21 is "International Day of the Nacho"
Posted 14 years agohttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nachos.....y_of_the_Nacho
One day in 1943, the wives of ten to twelve U.S. soldiers stationed at Fort Duncan in nearby Eagle Pass were in Piedras Negras on a shopping trip, and arrived at the restaurant after it had closed for the day. The maître d', Ignacio "Nacho" Anaya, invented a new snack for them with what little he had available in the kitchen: tortillas and cheese. Anaya cut the tortillas into triangles, added longhorn cheddar cheese, quickly heated them, and added sliced jalapeño peppers. He served the dish, calling it Nachos especiales - meaning "Special Nachos" in Spanish.
International Day of the Nacho is celebrated by- eating nachos!
And, yes, I will post this every year. This is important!

My favorite holiday is coming!
Posted 15 years agoNo, not Halloween, although that's fun too. Halloween doesn't need me to promote it.

Violet's Recipies: Honey Bunny
Posted 15 years agoThis one is really easy, requires no cooking, and only 2 ingredients!
You need:
Bolillos (A type of Mexican bread roll. If your store doesn't have them you can substitute a baguette and cut it into hand sized parts.)
Honey
A knife
Cut 2 parallel cuts down the side of the bolillo, like you are making a 2 layer sandwich.
Spread a bunch of honey all over inside the 2 slices.
It's very good with some tea or milk.
The key is using the double layer of honey. I used to do this with one cut, but the bread was covering too much of the honey's flavor. By doing a double layer, it balances it out.

Violet's Recipes: "Usa Hime" (Cocktail)
Posted 16 years agoI can't believe I'm the first person to come up with this drink, I'm sure some people have tried it before me, but searching the internet I can't find an official name for it, so I will take credit and call it the the "Usa Hime" (Bunny Princess).
It's quite simple; one half sake and one half cola.
I'm having one now, and I'm feeling quite pleasant.

Posted 16 years agoPancake Cookies:
*Pancake mix
*Milk
*Sugar
Mix up the pancake mix with some milk until it's "soupy", then add some sugar. How much sugar is up to you. Heat up a frying pan, add a little butter if you want, just to keep things from sticking to the pan. Use a table spoon to dump a cookie sized portion of the mix on the pan, and cook until it's not liquid any more, flipping over as needed. If you have a large pan you can do several at once. Repeat until you run out of mix.

Violet's Recipes: Macaroni and Big Cheese
Posted 16 years agoMacaroni and Big Cheese
Make some regular boxed (or use some of the newer microwaveable types) of macaroni and cheese.
Right before serving, while it's still real hot, toss in a slice of cheese and stir it in as it melts. This is best done while the pot is still on the stove, or if using a microwave, as soon as it stops cooking. Add another if you like (depending on the size of your serving).
Optional: Cook up some ground beef while you are cooking the macaroni, then stir it in too.

Violet's Recipes: Reverse Float
Posted 16 years agoThis is one of my favorites, and it's so easy!
Reverse Float:
*Ice Cream (vanilla is recommended, try other flavors at your own risk)
*Your favorite soda (I prefer a cola) Make sure it's cold.
Fix yourself a bowl of ice cream, then dump a little soda on it, slowly pour it around until all the ice cream gets some on it, then stop. The soda will freeze to the ice cream. Eat that part, then pour some more soda on when it's gone. You need the soda to be cold too or it will just melt, but it would still taste good.

Violet's Recipes: Nuked Cheese Sandwich
Posted 16 years agoNuked Cheese Sandwich
You'll need:
* 2 slices of bread
* butter or margarine
* 2 slices of cheese (American cheese works best, but you can try it with any cheese)
I like grilled cheese sandwiches, but to do it right, you have to grill them. That can be about 10 minutes of work! Then you have to wash the skillet or whatever you grilled it on. Now I've found a way to get that grilled cheese taste in 1 minute!
First, put a light coat of butter on one side of each slice of bread, then put a slice of cheese on top.
Don't put the two halves together yet! Put them in the microwave, I set them on an old empty TV dinner box with a paper towel under the bread, this raises the sandwich halves off the bottom of the microwave a little so they cook more evenly. Feel free to use a microwave safe plate instead.
Cook for 45 seconds or until you see the cheese is starting to melt.
Quickly (because they are hot enough to burn your fingers) slap the 2 halves together. The heat they have built up will melt the 2 cheese slices together into a wonderful gooey, cheesy mass! Mmm! Allow to cool for a moment so you don't burn yourself trying to eat it.
The bread won't be toasted, but it tastes just like a grilled cheese sandwich, and because the bread is still soft, there are less crumbs.

Did you have nachos today?
Posted 17 years agoOctober 21st is "International Day of the Nacho".
!943, some wives of American servicemen were on a shopping trip in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, just over the border from Eagle Pass, Texas. They stopped in a local restaurant owned by Ignacio "Nacho" Anaya. Ignacio had been getting ready to close, and had little food left, so he came up with an idea to use what he had left. tortillas and cheese. He cut the tortillas into triangles and fried them and added the cheese, calling the dish "Nachos Especiales", or "Nacho's Specialty". The dish spread through Texas, and later to the rest of America.
So here's to Ignacio Anaya, a true hero of Tex-Mex cooking!
