Pool
Posted 16 years agoIf you're into art, music or video (and make your own), why not try Pool, Pool is a place where artists meet to show off their work. It's run by people you might know... ABC, RMIT, The University of Technology - Sydney, University of Wollongong and Drupal.
And no, you don't have to be an Aussie to join.

Beautiful Kate - Released
Posted 16 years agoBeautiful Kate, has been released... and is getting amazing reviews from critics, many have said that it may be the best Aussie film for some time. ABC critics, David and Margaret gave it a whopping 4 1/2 stars out of 5, each. You can read their review here: http://www.abc.net.au/atthemovies/txt/s2631067.htm
Although I only had a tiny part in it, blink and you'll miss it, it's really nice to have been involved in such a daring movie which is doing so incredibly well.
Here's the clip showing the bit I'm in, notice the blue mohawk?

Blowing my own trumpet
Posted 16 years agoIf you don't mind, let me rub my own tummy and give myself a pat on the back hehe..
When I first walked into secondlife, many in the general community didn't seem to "get" furries, had heard the worst and thought furries were "disturbing" in some way or other and didn't like them.
There was very little, to no explanation to the general community of what furries were, and furries were media shy, possibly with good reason, though i feel that if you don't speak up, you don't get heard either... this "don't speak to the media" party line, needs to die.
While on Secondlife, I endured (though it wasn't hard) griefing and some abuse over group chat. I had become known to the Aussies on SL as I'd been working closely with the ABC, a TV/Radio network in Australia who had bought themselves an island. Some people didn't know how to take furries, the information most people had was scant at best.
Over the months, I developed a good position within the general Australian SL community.
and they began to understand what furries were, especially as more joined me in helping ABC.
Furries and everyone else, Robots, Humans, Aliens etc, now enjoy a peaceful co-existence on ABC Island and within the Aussie community.
The fur haters either woke up or went home, the island isn't griefed anymore, I guess they think there's no point looking like an idiot.
The general Australian community aren't afraid of furries in the least and doesn't listen to nutters.
A good thing right?

Released, sort of...
Posted 16 years agoThe documentary I've been talking about has sort of been released... Shelley has made a smaller, re-edited version of it for viewing online, and you can watch it from my blog, it's called Peter and the Wolfie. (if you've just noticed this weeks after I've posted it, then you may need to search the blog o at least scroll down): http://wolfiesworld-oz.blogspot.com don't forget to write a short message to me after you've seen it, I'd like to know what you think. but do remember, it's the short version, there's a lot more detail in the tv version.

Money
Posted 16 years agoI won this $100 visa card recently and spent about $60 on something for my macbook, a protector thing. anyway I have about $40 left on it. which really should be used.
What I'd like is an update on my sketch by Poop, and to pay someone the $40 (roughly $40). it's not much, I know.
If the idea is ok with you then perhaps we can get out heads together.
You must have a way for me to send this to you (Paypal would probably work) and artists who draw in the Anime style need not apply, simply because I don't like that style (that's putting it mildly).
* $40 is $40 Australian, Not US.

Dreaming of a Werewolf Moon Phase Widget for OSX
Posted 16 years agoWhat is you could get a really well drawn OSX widget which is to show werewolves when the moon is full? I know there's some widgets out there now, but they're really bland and uninteresting, and certainly not as furry inclined as I'd like.
Any programmers/artists out there who'd like to take up the challenge?

Of course it's entirely up to the producers if they like what we've done or not, but I'll do my best, can't do more than that.

Rockit is still going stong, and you're welcome to come and play. It's on ABC Island on Secondlife.
The only [AFAIK] Commercial Island which is practically run by Furries.

Furry Documentary in Progress
Posted 18 years agoI had written an article on Furries for www.sloz.info... not a great
one in my book, but nevermind.
Then I had an IM from Shelly who works with SBS, She made the Podlove*
documentary on the Aussie couple who work in the club on SL.
(these two were also later seen on a similar story by Aussie 60 minutes)
She wants to do a doco on furries, so... we made plans to meet in the
city.
We had lunch together in Degraves street in Melbourne and talked about
Furries, the Culture, Art etc as we had a lovely flat white.
It looks like she wants a very even account of who we furries are
both on SL and in RL, with possible RL meetings, visits to cons etc.
Budget for the doco is *fairly good* :)
It was suggested that overseas trips may be Involved with me going to the US or people from the US coming here.
Interstate trips to meet friends or go to cons, gatherings may also be done.
At one point I mentioned fursuits and said that although a lot of furries have them, that I don't personally have one.
She said that there's probably enough in the budget to cover the cost of having a fursuit made if I wanted to explore that, which is amazing as
they can cost upwards of $2,000au
She wants me to keep in close contact and e-mail her so that she can gather ideas together and start the ball rolling.
I had no idea it would be like this, I expected the entire doco would be for five minutes, as the previous "podlove" was, I thought I'd merely
speak for two minutes and go home. but this looks like a fairly long-term project.
I'm a bit shocked.

Posted 18 years agoFirstly, look at this: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1397.....6fe08353_o.gif
I think that's pretty accurate, I see a lot of people with avatars which look like them and it begs the question of why?.
Remember when you were a kid and you [or a friend] wanted to be a fireman, cop, ballerina, superman, batman, pirate etc? well in SL you can be *anything* you like, and people choose to be *normal*, isn't there something wrong with that?
Did something die when most people grew up?
Heck, I've seen some sims with "fly" turned off because it's "abnormal".
Who wants to be normal? I certainly don't.

Howling
Posted 18 years agoSo, I'm on SL and I have a hot avatar which is a werewolf [with bits] and did I say I look hot? Well I decide that the howls on sl are pretty bad because they're all usually the same howl, recycled over and over... so I decided to upload my own, but guess what? most sites have that same howl or about two others which are off old recordings, probably from the 70s.
Some of you out there have got some great recording gear, so how about we get our own animal sounds happening... especially some bloody sexy howls... clarity my children is the key, not how loud it is, if you're going to do it, do it right!
So go on, throw your head back and give us your best howl. :)

ABC island Hack
Posted 18 years agoI look after ABC [Ausralian Broadcasting Corporation...
Aussie TV and Radio network, big company] on Secondlife..
but they are real.
Yesterday I got there and someone wiped the entire island.
I had to phone the company in Sydney and tell them, and we
got everything moving fast, and the Lindens who own SL used
a backup so that everything came back.
Whatever thing occured, I got part of the structure returned
to me, and I have no idea why, because I don't own the pieces
there.
look at this:
http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitem.....5/s1930123.htm
Expand the lower image, yeah that's me.
also, www.sloz.info
and it made the newspapers too.
The woman who runs the ABC called me "Her hero" although I was
quick to say that others helped, and they did, a lot.

I'd like someone to draw me, but only a few have *sniff*
and there's so much of my wolfyness to draw.
Thing is, nobody has gone further than my original basic drawing
[wolf in the circle logo] and i'd sorta like to know if Wolfie has big
muscled legs and... um... stuff.
The curiosity is I have two woofers inside who are identicle except:
Wolfie! is brown, loves his female mate and is monogamous.
Storr who is white and well, he's *gulp* he's um *blush* well he's
Storr. ;)
So, does Wolfie or Storr have legs and.... stuff?

Posted 18 years agoToday I made a decision about weapons on our sim on SL.
***
Effective immediately... Any person found with guns, knives, bombs and this includes decorative weapons like swords... On Eragon, in it's grounds, the pub, castle or sandbox. will be ejected and banned without hesitation or warning.
There will be no more weapons making in the sandbox.

I know some of you come to Eragon, please take the time to remove any gear before you
enter, if I see a flash of anything, you're gone.

Posted 18 years agoSo there I was in my little cardboard sandbox, building the greatest and most realistic cawk

When all of a sudden, there were bells and whistles and a 15 minute warning that the whole
damn grid was going down.
No No.... I'm just finishing off the frenum you bastards!
You rotten little pus-filled nobueles of gum sucking greaseball slimebuckets...
NONE OF YOU WILL *EVER* *EVER* GET A COPY OF MY GORGEOUS CAWK.
The Throbulator 355
People I've shown it to have either fainted or converted to the monks of phallic worship...
One freind fell over two days ago and hasn't got up, he's still mumbling something about elephants and hasn't stopped drooling.
But you lindens, had to have your TETRIS TOURNAMENT didn't you.
NO CAWK FOR YOU!

Secondlife
Posted 19 years agoRyu and I just got some land in secondlife...
a whole island actually.
We plan to build some very interesting places.
First on the agenda [is that the gay sort?] is a sort of pub venue where people will gather to discuss science and technology.
We will be hosting that once or twice a week, so anyone with a science bent is invited.
That particular area will be PG and moderated...
[griefers will be
made powerless]
But, these are
very early days.
although some of the buildings have been bought along with furnishings
etc, we haven't actually seen the land yet.
But it's coming :)
I am Wolfie Rankin there if

Ignorance is bliss
Posted 19 years agothe program
Posted 19 years agoI have seen some movies made with some sort of game product
on youtube and other places.
Do you think it would be possible to create a furry simulator
program where characters could be chosen and placed in situations
where they could act.
You could get your friends to do voices for the characters,
and contribute character designs, buildings, parks and all the
extras.
I think the system would work best if it was free and open source.
because there would be yiffing involved [of course] and some
level of zoophillia too.
Could we get enough people to get interested in such a thing?
I would prefer people got their brains out of "this is some sort
of game and therefore there will be shooting involved" and get
very creative with it.
The possibility would be that everyones work would look differently
since one person might design or collect work for a forest world
while others might prefer cityscapes or indoor situations.
I know some will say why not
just use second life or WOW
but frankly I don't think it's
got the oomph I can imagine
I'll let you add any other ideas.
Kate Bush sang "even saying it could even make it happen"
so, I'm saying it, is it going to happen?
