Thoughts on Mario & Luigi: Brothership [SPOILERS]
Posted 8 months agoSo, I doubt a lot of people will read this, but this is something I gotta get off my chest. The new M&L game, Brothership, is a great, humorous, entertaining throughout it all, and yet, while it did make me smile a lot with some of the jokes, and the ending did make me cry...
The game itself is just not great? I dunno, it just feels like a very weak link in the M&L Series. The introductory islands last far too long; I personally like to explore everything, but even some friends of mine have said how tedious it is to get through the first part- But it's a situation where the game itself wasn't worth going through it all.
In comparison to the prior games, it's so different and changed so much that it's very out of place. Now, these might be great things for new people to the series, but I think the game just felt sluggish. Not only in the story and progression, but in the battles as well. Now, there are plenty of bosses and enemies that tripped me up even with these 'easier' reactions, so I'm not saying it's entirely bad. It's just slower than usual.
In fact, on the topic of bosses, a bit of a rant. While Brothership follows the M&L formula of the final battles being the main minion, the 'main' boss, and the 'true' boss.
Superstar Saga - Fawful to Cackletta to Bowletta/Cackletta's Soul
Partners in Time - Princess Shroob to Elder Shroob to Shroob Bowser
Bowser's Inside Story - Midbus to Dark Fawful to Dark Bowser
Dream Team - Antasma to Giant Bowser to Dreamy Bowser
Paper Jam did a bit more, having the Kameks, all the Koopalings, and Shiny Robobowser, but it felt deserved.
And of course, the newest, Brothership - The Extension Corps, Zokket, and Reclusa
Now typically in all these games, you mostly have all these 'minion' fights being introduced to you near the beginning. You fight Fawful near the beginning of S.S., Princess Shroob moreso taunts you throughout your whole journey, being so close but so far, Midbus is shown as a threat from the first few minutes playing as Bowser, eventually getting his in with not one, but two fights. You get the picture; they build up something greater before they throw you into their 'real' fights.
Brothership does do this.. in an odd way. Throughout the game, you're taunted by the Extension Corps- Ecks, Ten, and Sion- all three of them seeming to want a piece of you. Yet until you get to pre-endgame (where you typically beat the final minion before the final boss), you don't get to fight the other two, only the leader, Ten. When you do get to fight all three of them, however...it's rigged. Not that it's impossible rigged, but everything is set no matter what damage you do, or who you decide to hit.
It's a glorified challenge that is literally just dodging. You might say, well, Shroob Bowser did that, yeah? Having to only counter and hit him with a certain number of attacks before he's KO'd. In my opinion, great fight that tests your skills of the game one last time before you close out (and maybe shocking those daredevil boots users, you know who you are). The Extension Corps, on the other hand...
It's like I said, your damage and counterattacks mean nothing. At least with Shroob Bowser, a good counter meant progress. Countering these guys does nothing. Then there's the last section of the fight. Where Shun pulls out a plug that will- Not even kidding- kill you, no matter what your build is. How do you beat this, you may ask? Just by equipping one very specific plug that negates all damage for that turn. A boss fight, especially a climactic one, should not be won by a cheat code.
Then after you beat the big boss, Zokket, you find out- despite Shun literally saying they'll explode using that plug, which they obviously did- they're still alive? And suddenly, they have a new lease on life and are being kind to people instead of being evil. Now, this is hinted at by some funny moments earlier in the game...but it still is such a sharp turn on their characters that it doesn't feel right.
Zokket, on the other hand, great boss, wonderful antagonist, I love the way he calculates every little thing, it's a detail that really shows you how he works, how he studies, how perfect he wants his plans to go and how he won't stop until they work perfectly. You find out after beating him that he's actually the brainwashed mentor to your main ally in the game, Connie; named Cozette. She tells Connie and the Bros about Reclusa's big plan to make literally everyone in the world a recluse by putting them in their own fantasy worlds where their bodies are alone, but they're experiencing the best version of their lives over and over again, a trick that Reclusa actually tries on the Bros., but it simply doesn't work, he can't keep them from going on.
As far as Reclusa's boss fight goes, however, it's great! Great music, great methods of attacking and defending, usage of the multiple different battle mechanics, including a starting chase sequence where you have to shoot him down with fire and ice flower power riding on top of a giant plug. Yeah, it's weird, but it's great. Second phase, he literally merged with the Uni-Tree that you've been trying to keep safe this whole time, Weeping Reclusa-
Weeping Reclusa is...odd, because he's not a typical boss fight. It's a puzzle. First things first, get Snoutlet back from the Doom Blooms, who can juggle him around and hit you for a lot of damage. Once you get him, and Luigi's got his Logic, you go into another plug riding minigame to try to attack the real Reclusa inside of the tree. He's waiting in a shell of some kind, and to get to him, you have to break it. Simple.
Not quite. You see, Reclusa brings back a mechanic from Inside Story's Bowser X Superboss. Not quite disabling your Bros. Attacks entirely, but making them weaker the more you use them, two uses (one for green/red shell and 3 for Conductor Connector) and he guards it for the rest of the fight. Yes, even after you break the Weeping Core surrounding him, he's analyzed your attacks so well that he continues to guard those spammed ones on him, giving you a reason to vary your attacks rather than just using the same one, it's really intuitive.
The last phase is nothing too hard, a last-ditch effort from Reclusa to end Mario and Luigi once and for all, even having a rage phase at half health. All the bosses do have this, but Reclusa's is much more manic and ruthless than the others. As is tradition for most of the games, you get one last big attack on Reclusa as you fall down from the Weeping Reclusa, charging up power to literally smash Reclusa's head in with your hammers pressing on both sides of his head (metal as fuck, by the way.)
After that...that's really it. An amazing boss fight to end the game off, and that's fine, I don't mind that being the finale. Yet, unlike most of the other games, there's no postgame whatsoever. Yes, there are superbosses, but you can beat them before you ever step foot near Reclusa, and you only get three? Which are the Great Lighthouse bosses. Technically the first one gets a superboss too, but it's weirdly a story event? So technically four but it's still a low amount.
Once you beat them, you get some great gear from the guy that gave you the quests to beat them in the first place- Definitely worth going for. Unlike Challenge Node or Battle Ring, you don't get another chance at them after you beat them. They're just gone. Not even a special Superboss at the very end like Bowser X, Bowser Jr. or Dry Bowser. Missed opportunities for how long we had to wait for a new game in the series.
Am I saying the game is bad? No! It's a great game for Mario & Luigi beginners, and a fun time for the ones who've played before. Just in comparison to its older siblings, it leaves a lot to be desired. That's my opinion, anyway. Part of me feels like they were trying to pull more from Superstar Saga than any other game, despite having a ton of references. Heck, even most of the Bros Attacks you get are ones from previous games; like Bomb Derby and Yoo Who Cannon, just with some notable upgrades; and the overworld abilities of the classic spin from every game and the Bros. Ball, straight from Inside Story, with an added dash feature.
In that way, you could see Brothership as less of a newfangled Mario & Luigi game that's way better than the last one, like how a lot of people consider Inside Story the best game in the series (me included), and more of a celebration of the history of the series, similar to Breath of the Wild (except, you know, you had LOTS of options there). I can enjoy the game seeing it in that way, but if I don't, it's a funny yet bland experience, the replayability is far lower than any in the series because of those lack of boss rematches. At the end of the game, you can fight the final boss, and that is it. Again, Superstar Saga did the same, but remember, it was the first of the series, they had to start somewhere.
Anyway...if you did read this, tell me what you think! Please don't be rude. It's ironic to say, but the moral of Brothership's story is something that I think we all could use. Before I go, I'd like to send you some words from one of the NPCs that really struck me when I played. I think it's something everyone needs to hear at some point.
"It's high time that I share something that's actually pretty serious. Our world has broken apart and that puts us all in unprecedented peril. What we used to take for granted is falling through the cracks. Like people that used to say hello in the morning. Or laughter among friends throughout the day. Or those little arguments among friends too. I mean all of those things that exist because of connections with others. It's ALL in danger of being taken away but that which rests here. We can't let our world fall into one where everyone is imprisoned in solitude... Please... This world is..." He goes into a psych moment, passing it off as a joke, but there's something so deep about it.
With technology keeping us distant, so easy to hole up in our homes... We've lost a lot of companionship between our fellow humans or otherwise. People who just seem so angry at the world for no reason because it hurt them. So, do me a favor, if you will. Spread some joy. Make some new friends, let your ear be a welcome respite for someone.
Just don't let those bonds go.

Hey y'all! Gonna do a bit of a raffle here
Posted 11 months agoDecided I wanted to get writing more aside from a big story me and my buddies are working on, you know, some more fun stuff here~
So! Free to enter, and you get a limit of 1000 words for the story but you do get to choose the topic (likely TF mostly, but not limited! Just ask~)
And all ya gotta do is comment on this if you'd like in. I'll be tallying up the votes by Oct. 2nd, just to give some time for it. If I do more they'll likely be last week of the month.
So, hey, why not right?

Paper Mario TTYD Story YCH
Posted a year agoSo, in celebration of the TTYD Remake coming out, I thought I'd do something fun and make a YCH story for the partners of the game.
In short, the story will be about a group of friends (the victims) excited to play TTYDR but they get sucked in instead- Classic Jumanji 2 style. Each person will get at minimum, two paragraphs, and those who take the slots can give me examples of how and why they TF into the character
i.e. Identity stolen by Doopliss, so the Shadow Sisters make you into a new sister (Vivan)
Currently all slots are taken except for two, Goombella and Bobbery. All I'm asking is $5 for each, and obviously, feedback on what you'd like with it. If nobody takes them in about a week, I'll be raffling them off. Thanks y'all!

Comms are always open!
Posted 3 years agoI'll admit, I'm a tad bit short on cash at the minute, so I'm letting y'all know.that my comms are always open and run at a rate of one cent per word (i.e. a 1,000 word story is $10), so it's a simple conversion haha.
I don't have any limits as of yet, my main focus is TF, but I can branch off!
If you're interested, you can either shoot me a note or, alternatively, Discord chat works way better.
Kitty/Loona#1208 is my current name, it does change often, but Kitty and the 1208 stay most frequently haha. Thank y'all ahead of time!

A fun idea I wanna share with y'all!
Posted 3 years agoSo, I have this neat little thing with Aubrey where, in the event of him being 'overwritten', say by transforming into someone else, or being taken over by an external force, he has a special section in his boutique which houses hairpins that keep himself 'alive'.
For those of you who aren't aware of Aubrey's Boutique, it's a place where all the outfits, accessories, and anything you can think of can result in a transformation, from as minor as an accent change, a body style shift, or just swapping gender, to a total overwrite of the person they used to be, replacing them with whatever being that outfit held. In the case the latter happens to Aubrey, even outside of his Boutique, he can easily come back to being himself. At the cost of another random person's existence, though. After all, you can't create something out of nothing.
So, where am I going with this, y'all might be asking? Well, I was thinking to myself, with all these 'Aubreys' running around, how would you keep track of them all? Simply put, a place I call the Transformationverse! Or TFverse, for short. Everyone has one, even if they've only transformed once. What the TFverse is, is essentially a catalogue of forms that the host has taken over the years. They can visit it at any time in their own minds, but if they touch a member of it, they become that member until further notice.
Others can visit a person's TFverse, and even take on the forms that lie inside of it. Say for example, I took my good friend
playfingers's Dell into mine, and he ended up touching Tasque Manager. When they wake, Dell will be Tasque in and out. Admittedly I'm not entirely certain on the reverse yet- i.e. how the person comes back from being their or another's TFverse counterpart. Most likely, the original host gets trapped in the TFverse until they decide to eject themselves, causing their real life self to return to normal- Easier said than done, obviously, but hey!
As an example, Aubrey has many, many forms currently that stay in his TFverse:
- Dell the Deer
- Tasque Manager
- Angus Delaney (NitW)
- Asriel Dreemurr (God form)
- Shalltear
- Himbo Solgaleo
- Temmie
-
Zeydaan's Isabella
And much more I can't think of at the moment!
Tell me what y'all think, and what might reside in your own TFverse!

A bit of a neat community post here.
Posted 4 years agoI know I haven't really written in a while, due to lack of motivation lately, but another big problem is how many ideas I've got in my head that I'd really enjoy fleshing out into full stories. But, that being said, I am ungodly terrible at making decisions, so I wanna hear from you guys. What would you like to see out of my ideas, or would you like me to try and finish up Jayden's Arising (over on DA, same name if you wanna look it up).
So, here are the possible options:
- Finish Jayden's Arising
- An unnamed series as of yet with demonic bounty hunters and a blind main character.
- A Warriors (by Erin Hunter) inspired series
Or - A collaboration between me and a friend to flesh out our own personal Undertale AU, SOULbond
To make this simpler, I'll put up a straw poll for it!

A new beginning! For this account, at the very least.
Posted 5 years agoSo, yes, as said in the title, the account is changing. I'll be taking everything off this account, because, honestly, I have most, if not all of the stories here on my DeviantArt account. Yes, DA is garbage, I'll admit that myself, but...
TL;DR, WolfiorTG on FA is going to become my experimental, more kinky and wild story account, while WolfiorTG on DA will be with all my story series. I was considering getting rid of this account entirely for a new one, with a different name, as, as far as I am aware, there is no way to change your name on FA (If someone does know a way, please let me know), but then I'd have to go through the hassle of rewatching people, refavoriting art, and since I've got a bunch of pages of them, I just don't feel like doing that.
So! As of today, this account will be completely cleared of everything on it! And if you still want to read the stories, they're all available over on my DA, under the same name, WolfiorTG.
Commissions will not change! I am still very much open for them! Just keep the NSFW stuff to this account, and the SFW stuff on the DA.
Thanks for reading, y'all, and if ya did read the whole thing, and didn't just skim, have a virtual cookie~ I can't give much else.

Commission Prices!
Posted 7 years agoAs I've changed my prices over on dA, I will also be changing my prices here. From now on, my stories have no predetermined cost, but go off a single rule: One cent per two words.
This means if you get a 500 Word Story, you pay $2.50. So it's basically half off the usual.
Hopefully I get some awesome commissions from you guys!
Ask me about pretty much anything, if I'm comfortable with it, I'll write it!
