Season's Greetings! I am the Mistletoe Inspector.
My job is to inspect holiday artwork to ensure that mistletoe is
accurately depicted and hasn't been confused with holly.

Your artwork is eligible for inspection if:
- It has been tagged, titled, or described with the word "mistletoe";
- It depicts a character kissing, or inviting another character to
kiss them, underneath some festive greenery.
Your artwork is not eligible for inspection if:
- It is non-festive;
- It is a YCH auction, commission opening, adoptable, or any other sales post.

The Holly and Mistletoe Confusion
For years, countless media has incorrectly used holly in lieu of mistletoe.
Even search engines have fallen for holly's prickly trick and show you countless pictures
of holly when searching for mistletoe, only furthering the rampant confusion!
It's my hope to bring awareness to this common mistake by
educating people on what mistletoe actually is!

This account is mostly just for fun; please do not take my pedantry too seriously or personally.
Happy Holidays and may your mistletoe be jolly! (and not holly)

Update from Mistletoe HQ (G)
2 weeks ago
Happy Holidays!
I am happy to see so much enthusiasm for our cause this holiday season. Our work is clearly far from over, but this year we've been delighted to hand out relatively more passes than ever at Mistletoe HQ!
However, I must address some loose-canon "rogue" inspectors I've seen handing out unwarranted citations. While I appreciate the help in spreading our message, please ensure you at least read our field guide before becoming a vigilante inspector. Please always employ the same respectful and professional conduct we do at Mistletoe HQ. We do not aim to ridicule, only educate.
I've seen people throwing out fails whenever there are red berries on what is clearly a mistletoe.
While berry colour is a good indicator when evaluating a mistletoe, their dispersion and the shape of the leaves are a far more telling factor. Red berries should not automatically result in a failure, as such white berries do not always result in a pass.
If you have any issues with our criteria or guidelines, feel free to start a discussion on the field inspection guide.
On another note, a big thank you to
graedius and
rhewlif for their rather... jolly gift art of yours truly. They are quite... adult in nature, so you'll have to check out their lovely galleries to see them. A huge thank you to you both!
I will still be inspecting into January, as the last wave of Christmas art is posted. After that, I think I'm going on a vacation to Benidorm to escape cryostasis this year... I'm going to drink so much sangria.
I hope you all had a great holiday, and have a wonderful new year!
