Reflections and Aphorisms - Bookend (G)
My situation changed a lot about how I see all these things. - These past... 4 or 5 years. Starting around 2022. I used to entertain this heady view of art, and cartoon making and all these things. Probably out of some necessity to compensate for my lack of practical skills, my inadequacy. I realized that there more urgent needs in life that were better models that could constitute art, primal biological needs. They were the true birthers of any good art and philosophy.
I felt like I had made company of a society of privileged people who would smoke black cigarettes, wear an eyepatch and watch the world go to hell.
Coming face to face with life, after a failed career at getting into the entertainment industry. I watched every single one of my initial notions painfully and slowly get peeled away from my
body.
The Aphorisms
There is art and there is Art. One is a human compulsion. The other is a wall with a gift shop.
There is philosophy and there is Philosophy. One is thinking honestly about hard things. The other is a dress code for ideas.
There is religion and there is Religion. One is a man alone with the unknown. The other is the unknown, managed, packaged, and sold back to you.
Art, philosophy, religion are not achievements. They are symptoms. You don't study how to be hungry.
The whole of Western philosophy can be summed up as "People with warm feet explaining to people with frostbite that the problem is attitude".
Philosophy is poetry that got embarrassed, dense, ugly, and convinced the ugliness is smart.
Everything useful that philosophy ever did, it did once, and then science took it and left. What's left is bums in tuxedos, with nothing on their plates arguing about the silverware.
It was never wisdom they were handing down from that hill. It was garbage, thrown elegantly.
Nobody believes things because they are true. Pick a lie. At least make it yours.
