Update re: Commissions
Starting in September, I'd like to try taking commissions at the start of the month and finishing that work over 4 weeks. The idea is that it gives people time to save up, and if I finish early, or in between those commissions, I have time to work on other things. It's mostly so I don't have to take random spread-out work like I have been doing for years. The only thing is, I've never been an artist whose slots fill when I announce commissions, because... I've never really had slots, and I have a lot of followers on Twitter but not really anywhere else (my fault for putting my eggs in one basket for so long), so my audience is big but at the same time not. I've gotten many commissions but the demand has never been "I have to act now in case I miss it". So I'm honestly not entirely confident it'll work out, but I hope maybe it might make my commissions more accessible to people by giving them a time to plan around, because they are obviously not something most people can just drop money on on a whim.
Twitter tends to bury my posts about anything having to do with commissions so I'm mostly stating this here so I can attempt to make as many people aware of this plan of mine as possible, because the lack of interaction with my tweets leads me to believe that people aren't seeing them. I've started a new job, but it doesn't pay a lot of money, so it'll help with things but I still have to take commissions to pay other bills and fund merch projects. I wish it wasn't that way, because I really would like to do more personal art and merch projects without having to advertise these all the time, but I can make more money on a few commissions in a week than I get paid at my weekly-paying job, so it'd be unwise to just stop them entirely for a length of time, even though it's what I'd prefer to do. It's just the reality I live in, art-wise.
Just wanting to change something about the way I work in an attempt to make things easier on myself and others. But yeah, just an update, for anyone who happens to see this.
