For all the years I’ve been a furry, it never once crossed my mind to use the journal feature on here besides as a marketing tool. I suppose that’s to be expected.

For anyone who’s been questioning my online presence and ongoing disappearances, here’s something quick and concise: I’ve decided to completely excise social media from my daily bread.

It took only a few days off the social platforms to really put into perspective just how much time they were robbing from me. The siren song of likes and retweets, the constant scrolling and the like. It’s too much.

It seems to me that the longer you use it, the more likes, the more retweets, the more comments you receive, the rain of messages, the flood of interactions, etc, seem to engender more of it. The greater the feedback, the greater the addiction, all under the guise of seeking “social interaction”, until you begin to brand yourself for that dopamine response to the point of parody. It’s engineered by the platform. Subtle, and insidious.

Time and time again I’ve become a brand of my own interests without knowing it’s happening.

And being aware of that is half the battle. The other half is whether you think it’s worth spending so much time and energy balancing it all, and I’ve come to the realization that It’s not something I want to do anymore, so I’ve decided to cut it out for good. You may be seeing my activity on the other places increase as a result.
