FWA: Post Con Thoughts and stuff that happened
9 years ago
FWA '15 is over and here are a few thoughts on the thing.
I enjoyed this con a little more than usual mainly because I was able to suit more than I have before which was like 30 minutes total of an entire con. This due to the fact that I'm practically blind without glasses and they fog up inside the suit head due to all the heat. The head has an open mouth so my breathing isn't causing the fogging. It's just the head from my head and sweat.
After about 2 years from getting the suit I had tried to think of all possibilities to keep the glasses from fogging up. Even tried Cat Crap anti-fog and it just helps the fog disappear quicker. I looked online for anyone with same issues and most suggest contacts which I can't do because they're too small and I have an astigmatism which requires special lenses. I finally found one that the only other option was to either wear them outside the head or go blind. I figured why the hell not and tried the glasses on the outside idea and it worked decent. Still couldn't see 100% but it was enough in focus to where I can at least recognize shapes. Only downside was that it was like looking through a 2" box window because it was so far on the suits nose. Still better than nothing. Main thing I was mostly worried about was it looking stupid but apparently it looked OK and got a LOT of attention mostly from mundanes. Quite a few furs like the facial expression as well so "Way to go
lobitaworks on a cool suit"
o on to the thoughts. The con had more mundanes this year than usual as there were a few other things going on like some educator conference. Met 4 guys at the Velocity Bar who were genuinely intrigued about what was going on and I explained to the best of my abilities of both my view points and some others (That subject is for another time and place) Still it's good to talk to non furs and educate them. Bonus if you educate educators. It's nice being asked civil questions rather than the usual "do you have an orgy" questions. We talked a bit about what it was to be a furry and how one chooses their animal and stuff. At the end when they learned that me and the other fur next to me had suits they asked that we put them on so they could take pictures. I had been suiting around previously just wandering around and trying to gauge people's reactions so I was kinda already tired from it but I figured I needed to branch out and do what the suit is meant for.
After I came back in suit they were having a great time taking selfies and pictures of both me and the other suiter. The thing that I will always remember is what one of them said and it was that suiters really make other people happy. And it's actually true. I think that it brings them back to a part of when they were a kid and the magic of seeing characters. However if you get the "dumb" ones that instantly go straight to sex and furries then it's a lost cause most of the time. Anyways that was the first night which was the most eventful night of the entire con for me.
There didn't seem to be that much really going on during the day other than the usual stuff. Did the God Level dinner thing and got stuffed of some good steak (better than last year imo) I still wish they wouldn't put a main event like floor wars at the same time as the dinner but you can't please everyone. I did do the fursuit photo shoot where they packed us into the main ballroom and took a LONG ASS panoramic shot so we had to stay still then a video of us for the live stream.
Went to the Skyline Social and tried staying in suit but it's hard to hold plates of food and drinks when you can only see about 5 yards ahead of you. I thought the gifts were hilarious because it was a mason jar cup with the Camp FWA logo on it. My only thought was "I can't get much more redneck than this and I'll just put it next to the other mason jar glasses" My parents do have mason jars as glasses.
There was a fursuit dance competition but I just didn't go because it had too many people and it's just too much chaos for me. I enjoy the dancing and stuff it's just I didn't really feel like going.
The charity auction was fun as I got a standee of a hyena with marshmallows on fire and a pillow case. (It's an adult body pillow case if you're wondering why anyone would buy a pillow case for an auction) I also managed to snag a picture at the art auction of a gold dragon sitting on the cab of a steam locomotive which is hilarious as the title of the pic is "RailFan"
Nothing much happened after the auction other than I decided to go down to the dance and just see what was going on. It turned out it was actually fun even though I am not really the dancing type as I have waaaaay too many self esteem issues when it comes to doing things that requires physical talent. But with the heavy bass booming and seeing others dancing that were just as bad as me it kinda helped ease me into it and I danced for about an hour or so. Afterwards I slept the best I had in a while.
Sunday was pretty much a rest day and grab any last minute items from the dealers or artists. Closing ceremonies was short with the announcement that next year's theme is GAME ON.
So all in all it was a good con and I am registered for next year.
