I don't exactly have much of a place to ask anything of anyone, but nonetheless I have been asked to spread this and after getting the full story I feel this is worth spreading.

Put simply, a friend of mine came to me with a request asking if I would post this GoFundMe for a friend of his. I've seen the name of the person who needs the money float around a bit in the past and I asked for more detail, which I was given, but most of which is fairly private and I have not been permitted to share publicly. But as I trust the person who has made the request, I feel that it is worth spreading, especially as the request is rather...reasonable. It's well under the full cost of what he would need to recover all the data he's at risk of losing, but he's focusing the goal only on the very important personal data he is at risk of losing, rather than trying to get it ALL taken care of.
