I said i would try to get something uploaded during my learning period, been focussing mainly on a rougher and quicker way to paint, and on light as the two fields i want to improve in. And well, while doing some research and taking apart a few paintings from other people i stumbled upon something that looked like it was painted on top of a photo. Or it at least looked like it to me, not sure if it actually was done that way. So i tried it out and it turned out to be a fantastic way to do more rugged up scaly creatures in a fairly realistic manner.
This painting was done in about 60~90 minutes, which is like a rocket compared to a ferrari in comparison to how long it usually takes me to finish stuff , so, yeah , it's possible to get something out of it very quickly.
That's about it for now i think, have a nice day everyone!

Yup, that's pretty much how speed paintings are, you don't put the time into refining it-you just paint large shapes to get the general form and lighting across. If done well it looks real as a thumbnail, but then when you see the full picture you can see just how rough it is. That's my favorite part of speed painting c:
Well, that's all you get in the timeframe of 1 to 2 hours. I'm certain that some people can whip out something fairly refined in such a short timeframe, but i just don't have dozens of years experience as of yet to be confident enough with what i do to reach that point :P
So, yes, this really isn't meant to be put on the wall as a poster , it's meant as a way for me to get an idea across quickly on which i then can build upon, and for that it does a good job.
In the end my goal is to move over to a rougher style of painting, but not unless it is refined enough to stand next to something of my other paintings and be regarded as somewhere on a close level to it.

Yep, had a "search all sorts of stuff on youtube"-period again a few weeks ago and found a few interesting ones! So, yep, appears like they still make them every now and then. But going to check out your suggestions as well when i get some time , can't really remember the ones i watched though...

I belive you might have seen something that is called "matte painting". It uses photos, textures, 3D models and renders and other props cut and pasted and then all connected with few brush strokes which unifies the painting, and some filters added on top at the end. Serves as a quick way to make a concept art, generally in envirormental art.
